Check out other NOLA piano wizards Allen Toussaint and James Booker--along with Dr John they ALL learned from Professor Longhair and are all brilliant.
@gigi504ever I have never seen Mac fail to give credit to the Professor. As a matter of fact, a hell of a lot of us who weren't lucky enough to grow up in NOLA first went looking for Professor Longhair records _because_ Dr. John pointed us that direction.
@eanschuessler you must go to New Orleans at least once druing Mardi Gras...skip Burbon street tho as all it has been for many years is strip clubs, the blues are not played on that street...ask the locals where to find the best blues around town & just enjoy...take much film or many blank chips with you as you will use all of them...;-) and that's a promise...from a west Texas boy who's daddy is from New Orleans & I go back as often as possible
Ah, the good doctor! One of my favorite New Orleans memories is driving down to the French Quarter on a Sat. nite, a few months before Katrina, with WWOZ on the radio and hearing a solo version of "Such a Night" come on--a perfect match of time and place.
Dr John is so brilliant -such a cool dude

Awesome Joe Liggins tune, but this arrangement is smokin'! Hints of Afro-Cuban, almost Mambo horn charts, Cascara style drumming, great shit!
