I started small too and each year expanded my garden. Well, just after 2 years I am out of room..lol. But its true you should start small until you get the hand at it. The bigger your garden, the more time you need to tend to your plants, such as fertilizers, water, etc.
@ILuvCaroline You should only work what you can cope with. We all have varying amounts of time we can dedicate to planting, so even if it's small, as long as you get something out of it, that's all you need. I ran out of room, which was why I had to get a 2nd plot. I've got enough room now, but I still fill it all up though.
Home grown sprouts are so much tastier than shop ones. Try the purple brussels if you can get them. When you boil them the water turns purple. They taste the same as regular ones, but just look a little bit more interesting.
I just let them sit on the soil, sometimes you may need to give them a turn to colour the underside. Make sure you bring them inside before the first frost.
sorry for the last comment i did that by acciddent and also I live in Ireland and I have my courgettes in my greenhouse but they take up alot of room so could I put them outside like yours???
That's ok we all have a mad 5 minutes every now and then. The cougettes should be outside when all risk of frost has past, which should be from now onwards even if you live in Scotland they'll be fine. They need to be planted 2 ft apart and will hopefully continue fruiting until September.
Usually diluted washing up liquid does the trick. Put 1/2 inch of liquid in the bottom of a plastic spray and fill up with water. Spray very close to the plant, and repeat as necessary. The bugs just slip off. For very stubborn bugs get some eco friendly spray and follow instructions on the bottle. I've got a red one called "Bug spray", it does everything.
Thanks for the advise about one bed or section at a time. Going all gung ho is only going to lead to overload. I love sitting down for a few minutes at the end enjoying what I have achieved. I have lots of seedlings in waiting for the beds to be finished. Im really enjoying your style.
Always be proud of what you've achieved, it may not look a lot but it's more than when you started that morning. You're closer to the end every time you dig.
Hi Claire. I've just started my allotment and am doing it in bits. The first I'm bit I've done is made a Gazebo to sit down at. I your advice is good cuz the allotment can get a bit much if you was to try and do it all in the first year. Cleethorpes.
A place to sit is the most important part of an allotment or garden, next comes drink and food!! Make sure you look at 1 bed at a time. The more you dig the closer your getting to the end. When you get half way through digging your plot the last be is easier. The end is in sight.
Thanks Claire some great advice yet again. I'll let ya know when the fist 4 poster goes in and my upright piano in the shed of course. .. i mean entertainment is a forte... excuse the pun. Enjoy the crops this year dear
Thanks for your kind words. Oh if only i had my own show, that would be wonderful. But until that happens, i'll keep going on youtube. keep gardening.

There's so much to do in March, April and May. When every thing's in you can start to enjoy, but keep on top of the weeding.
