@363498 I think it says that lift was in 2009, only he knows the truth but still for someone his size 650 is more than respectable. He took 1st in some power contest i think in FL, for a 200 lb guy he does well, even if he's on something it's not a huge amount and he is very smart regarding knowing the body and muscle function, maybe he is using his brain instead of drugs, do they give drug tests at power events?
@Tjantele theres a difference between traing for buildin muscle like the hodgetwins and trying to build strength, he trains his body to lift heavy and has a belt for protection.
@Tjantele how is he guna snap his shit up? he has the strength to do it. so its the same as a guy deadlift who can deadlift 225x2 as his max. the only difference is pressure placed on the spine discs. obv since this is 650 lbs compared to 225lbs. but his body can handle it. kinda stupid what u wrote lol..
Yo Elliott, How can I get my dead lift weight up? I'm 6ft 177lbs and have a 1RM of 325. It seems I have been stuck at this weight for a bit. I can do rack pulls at 355lbs. 1RM. Thanks
@cyspy that isnt true, ive seen 4+ videos of people squatting 1000lbs raw, but NEVER have I seen a 1000lb deadlift raw. The reason for that is: when you get VERY high lifts, you will have a higher bf%, and your stomach will give you padding when you squat and it will make it awkward when deadlifting. The reason some people (myself included) squat more than they deadlift is b/c they do it more often. If the person's back cant handle the squat weight, then they wudnt be able to squat it.
@Eighteen87 because often that larger muscles of the back and legs are beyond the strength capacity of a smaller muscle like a forearm, so why train inadequately for muscles that supersede the strength of your forearms/hands? id love to hear back from you
i have a question that no one has ever been able to answer for me. Why is it that my deadlift is about 40 lbs better then my squat? i am a powerlifter at the high school level and this really bothers me because i have an okay bench a good deadlift but a bad squat total.
@footballplyer73 It is not normal. How much higher? Usually the deadlift is higher. Assuming you neither use squat nor deadlift suits. Many people have squat and deadlift in the same range. Or the deadlift higher. It depends largely on your body type (assuming proper technique).
@cyspy For many/some that could be true. If you just starting it could be different. If you are professional gear user - the squat will be higher, because squat suits are more efficient. And it also depends on your body type. If you e.g. have very short arms you have a larger range of motion on the deadlift and it therefor gets harder.
@TheMarkusScharnowski Newbies are weak, therefore their posterior chain/form is weak. Suits are exempt from the rules of biomechanics. The human body is also generally in proportion, so though some people might have a squat and deadlift that are the same due to special mechanics, it's rare you'll find a (raw) lifter who has a higher squat than his deadlift. If your squat is equal to or more than your deadlift, it is not safe to assure someone it's normal until the reason is discovered.
great job man, solid lifting! for some reason there's a whole lot of haters out there. I never do know the real reason for it, maybe their keyboard warriors are just stupid, or have nothing better to do with their time then to go on other people videos and talk shit to make themselves feel better! Nonetheless, keep that shit up its inspiring!!
You've admitted to using steroids in the past, were you on the juice when you were pulling these weights? or is it just because you were so much heavier than you are now?
Most martial artists will tell you that the thumb is the weak point of the hand. By alternating the grip you offset the weakness of one hand with the strength of the other. It allows you to pull much heavier weights before your grip fails. I can only pull about 275 with double overhand before my grip goes. With an alternate grip I pull my max of 420 with no straps and feel I could still go heavier without my grip giving out.

@FutureFbstar28 I use em when the weight is crazy heavy for me... but only then... almost never in training. I like it more for back squats and over head moves too.
@strengthcamp Hi I just started doing powerlifting a week ago, is there any good workout regime that you can recommend. And should I do exercises like seated rows cause my back is already pretty big and I don't want it to get bigger just stronger, also I hear that using the machines is only good for bodybuilders and not for functional strength. I want to stay as small as possible i'm 5'10 188 lb and have a little bit of ab definition. Need to stay light due to weight classes.
@subatomicparticlephy Definitely stay lower reps if you don't want to pack on much more mass, some machines have they're purpose, but stick to freeweights if you want to powerlift or strongman
@coryu711 i'm pretty sure he knows that proper form is better than more weight. that's pretty basic, and he didn't get to the point he's at in this video without knowing that. yeah, straps and belts aid a little bit, but honestly it's more for safety than anything. he could have been on a rotation of equipment vs no equipment so that his body had a little more time to recover that week, month, whatever his frequency of deadlifting is.
@strengthcamp, really nice video dude, would just like to say you helped me out alot with my deadlifts :) so thanks, but one problem i have is that when i increase the weight im lifting my grip lets me down! Ive started training my forearms more but wanted to ask if those hand wraps your using actually work? I was thinking of buying sum but have a pair of gloves could you tell me which is better please.
@coryu711 - speaking of 'insecurities' you just revealed some of your own in your response. Like calling him an arrogant child for not accepting the advice of an internet nobody on how to get strong. Its a sign that you feel belittled by him. Maybe because you know never in your life will you get anywhere near his strength level. And secondly your cursing reveals feelings of outright jealousy for the following of young people he might have. Probably because you don't have jack following you..
I've been lifting a few years but I've never put great emphasis on deadlifts. I did them but now its like I want that to be my strongest. Everytime I do squats my knee kills,I'm thinking from a knee surgery I had. Any suggestions on that?
Get work Elliot! Your like an online life coach aswell as a strength trainer, really liked your talks on rebellion etc and training advice, thanks man.
your form is fine. i have seen so many lifts and everybody has to comment on one's form and sometimes the form looks good to me and I have been in the gym for 14 years or so. moreover, i have only seen 1 or 2 other guys in my gym even deadlift. also, most people do not squat either. keep doing your thing.
Yo, Elliott, when trying to work up the weight I'm deadlifting, I find I'm the most limited by grip strength. Otherwise, I'm making good progress. I started very light since I went the first 25 years of my life without lifting any weights at all, and in the last year have gone from playing with 60 - 95 pounds while getting form down, to 235. I don't want to start using straps at such a relatively low weight, but my grip / forearm strength isn't keeping up with me. Suggestions? Thanks, boss.
@ozolexil Oh, thank God you're here to help! But...how does one train his/her grip? Should I offer it treats if it does well? If it makes a mess, do I have to rub it's nose in it? i don't know if I have the heart.
@imthamouth try switching to a 2' bar for a little while... also you can grab those "Fat Gripz" handles from Elitefts and use those on the bar to add width and increase your grip.
@coryu711 ...good point ...but what can ya do when ego over rides everything else...yeah he lifted the weight, good 4 him...but his lifting style and attitude will surely bring back problems in years 2 come...hope not 4 his sake though ...not good to be negative ...dont want to offend .
@coryu711 dude, what is your problem? Whether Elliott was bein sarcastic or actually asking for help, it doesn't matter, that was a totally unnessessary comment. Not Cool. Anyways, I love watching your videos and reading your blogs Elliott. Great info on a lot of shit. I wish I could do what you do for a living. Awesome stuff.
lol @ the lose the straps comments. I bet Elliot has a handshake that would make you and all the males in your family hide in fear, and make the ladies wet.
thats impressive weight, but your form could be better, and the straps and the belt are a crutch, i never workout with either of those, its better to strengthen your forearms and back by just having proper form with less weight.
@coryu711 You're just mad cos you're a 16 year old "gym rat" without the gym. Honestly i'd be fucking insulted if some skinny little amateur came on my videos and tried to give me advice on my form.. He does it for a living you dim prick!
@coryu711 i'll bet he can do this without straps and a belt, but maybe he was feeling the equipment that day. not everyone can go raw 100% of the time when they lift. i'm sure that would take a couple years off your lifting career if you did that anyway. i've gotta say his back was pretty damn straight for this weight from what i could see. if you can do this too, that's great, but there are plenty of people that can't. so elliot is WAY above many people who lift (maybe even you?)
@coryu711 i know that everyone else has ripped on you, but i have to say man... everyone uses belts and straps. pro bodybuiders, pro powerlifters, pro strongmen, pro footballplayers, pro baseball players... any of that getting through? PRO'S? lighten up. once you get up to 500 pounds of knurled bar in your hands 1" in diameter it really starts to dig deep into the skin and stretch crucial tendons. i can double overhand deadlift 500 for 3 reps, but i still use straps while training,
@coryu711 strengthening with less weight and more reps being done slowly is one way of strengthening but there's also the heavy lifting way... I think both should be used....
@ROLNIKxPL support for your back. from a AMATEUR prospective the best way i could put it is it keeps pressure on your lower back to keep it aligned(???)
@ROLNIKxPL ..It helps buy putting pressure on your core and keeping all of your core in tact and your balls as well. Some may argue with me but that's why I wear a belt! It's all metal to. I know alot of people wouldn't even throw on a belt unless 3 plates or more. To your second question, you can wear a belt with anything heavy I always do, even for curls but I only wear it for heavy weight though. Again, It's all metal for me to, just like my wrist straps and knee wraps as well!
fucking crazy shit!

your form is fine. i have seen so many lifts and everybody has to comment on one's form and sometimes the form looks good to me and I have been in the gym for 14 years or so. moreover, i have only seen 1 or 2 other guys in my gym even deadlift. also, most people do not squat either. keep doing your thing.

Thanks, boss.
imthamouth 1 year ago
@imthamouth duh! if your grip is lagging then you should train your.. GRIP. yes you read that right, you should train your grip!
ozolexil 1 year ago
@ozolexil Oh, thank God you're here to help! But...how does one train his/her grip? Should I offer it treats if it does well? If it makes a mess, do I have to rub it's nose in it? i don't know if I have the heart.
imthamouth 1 year ago
@imthamouth try switching to a 2' bar for a little while... also you can grab those "Fat Gripz" handles from Elitefts and use those on the bar to add width and increase your grip.

It's strongman guys- pick it up off the ground!

@strengthcamp Cory is beating around the bush, he just wants to know how many cock pushups it takes to become a man!?
myersa31 1 year ago
thats impressive weight, but your form could be better, and the straps and the belt are a crutch, i never workout with either of those, its better to strengthen your forearms and back by just having proper form with less weight.
coryu711 1 year ago
@coryu711 You're just mad cos you're a 16 year old "gym rat" without the gym. Honestly i'd be fucking insulted if some skinny little amateur came on my videos and tried to give me advice on my form.. He does it for a living you dim prick!

@coryu711 why you think anyone should deadlift more than 6 plates without a belt is beyond me.
pjlballplayer10 1 year ago
@coryu711 i'll bet he can do this without straps and a belt, but maybe he was feeling the equipment that day. not everyone can go raw 100% of the time when they lift. i'm sure that would take a couple years off your lifting career if you did that anyway. i've gotta say his back was pretty damn straight for this weight from what i could see. if you can do this too, that's great, but there are plenty of people that can't. so elliot is WAY above many people who lift (maybe even you?)
tarsen1012 1 year ago
@coryu711 give him the props. he deserves them. for his career and this lift.

ihateyaacov 1 year ago
@coryu711 i know that everyone else has ripped on you, but i have to say man... everyone uses belts and straps. pro bodybuiders, pro powerlifters, pro strongmen, pro footballplayers, pro baseball players... any of that getting through? PRO'S? lighten up. once you get up to 500 pounds of knurled bar in your hands 1" in diameter it really starts to dig deep into the skin and stretch crucial tendons. i can double overhand deadlift 500 for 3 reps, but i still use straps while training,
spidanez 1 year ago
@coryu711 strengthening with less weight and more reps being done slowly is one way of strengthening but there's also the heavy lifting way... I think both should be used....

ROLNIKxPL 1 year ago
@ROLNIKxPL support for your back. from a AMATEUR prospective the best way i could put it is it keeps pressure on your lower back to keep it aligned(???)
hirirsi 1 year ago
@ROLNIKxPL ..It helps buy putting pressure on your core and keeping all of your core in tact and your balls as well. Some may argue with me but that's why I wear a belt! It's all metal to. I know alot of people wouldn't even throw on a belt unless 3 plates or more. To your second question, you can wear a belt with anything heavy I always do, even for curls but I only wear it for heavy weight though. Again, It's all metal for me to, just like my wrist straps and knee wraps as well!
