Organized labor has worked miracles for America. We’ve enjoyed the standard of living we’re accustomed to as a direct result of Labor Unions, which used to boast an 80% membership of American workers.
They couldn’t stop us from organizing, but they can take our jobs away with the help of traitors in our government.
Bringing the jobs back is the first step to recovery for our failing Republic. We can’t fight for higher wages and benefits if there are no jobs to fight for.
The older I become, the most I believe labor unions are and it's what separates the ""developed" countries from the "under/un-developed" countries. We must realize that "BOSSES" are fundamentally opposed to allowing workers to enjoy their lives. In fact, in an ideal world without labor laws, you're bosses are wishing u work for 4 cents an hour and worked 20 hrs a day. When we are fair, everyone prospers...when we are unfair, a few prospers, rest suffers. I know.. I work.
@dalecampbl6 Not true. Higher wages are also things companies have to compete with. If you don't like how Your employer is paying you. The thing naturally to do is move over to his competitor. He wont want to loose you so he WILL have to pay you more money. Competition is what in my opinion made this country develop so quickly. It was rough at first but things have gradually improved, Safety doesn't have to be forced by a government agency. Safety advances on it's own naturally.
@tehatemachine Also, something to consider as far as "safety advancing on it's own" why don't you look at the early 1800's until the late 1900's industrial brutality. Until the Unions cemented their power, safety was the last thing on 1%er's minds. All they want is to make money- period. They are amoral about it, too. If it means safety to make money, fine, if not- oh well. These people don't create jobs, they eliminate them. The only thing they want to create is a bigger profit for themselves.
@littleladyinbigworld "why don't you look at the early 1800's until the late 1900's industrial brutality. " I am very well aware of that, Especially in the coal mines. But if you look throughout history,That is how most great nations started, Safety though did not improve FULLY because of OSHA, And the labor unions. It improved along with the advancements of industry and methods of manufacturing.
@littleladyinbigworld Look at honda for instance. They are NOT unionized. Yet the safety in their automotive plants are TOP NOTCH. They've even gone so far with reducing the stresses of the workers hands by adding fewer but larger clips spaced out more evenly to the interior components. Which ads double towards the parts being more snug, and it reducing the strains and stresses on the workers hands.
@tehatemachine Just because you managed to find a plant that isn't unionized but successful does not mean they'd all be better off that way. The point I was making was that during a time when there was no regulations and unions were still in a weakened stage of power, workers were more like slaves. They were put in horrible conditions- maimed and killed. The reaction was "Oh well, they knew the dangers." Things did not level off into a natural safe zone by the corporations as you had suggested.
@littleladyinbigworld there are MANY Automotive plants in the U.S that aren't unionized.
"They were put in horrible conditions- maimed and killed" Do you really think they would continue doing that in modern times with all of the resources and safety equipment we have now? This was during an early stage of our countries development. But my point was, the safer and organized the work environment. the more productive it is.
@tehatemachine Also, I would like to thank you for having a rational debate rather than telling me I am a liberal b*tch and I'm going to hell as a reply. It really shows a lack of intelligence (all sides have people who do that) and it is merely a way of avoiding points being made against you without actually making a counterpoint.
@littleladyinbigworld Certainly. And i Understand some of your frustrations. But most I have found Are indeed linked towards government intervention. Government teaming up with certain companies is a bad mix and a disaster waiting to happen. The federal reserve being a prime example. It's what is reducing the middle class due to artificial inflation and deflation. It's time to go back to backing currency with silver and gold like the constitution specifies.
@tehatemachine Interesting idea about gold and silver. I am sure that slowly but surely companies would gravitate back towards their old ways if they faced no regulations. All I want is for the carrot/stick to be equal in the law. When a CEO orders/allows toxic waste to be dumped illegally & it soaks into a towns water supply, they get fined instead of jail time while you or I would probably be charged with terrorism). Do I think they would laps in other areas also just to save a buck? You bet.
@littleladyinbigworld "All I want is for the carrot/stick to be equal in the law. When a CEO orders/allows toxic waste to be dumped illegally " He cannot disrespect the law. In an unregulated competitive Free market with little government intervention, He cannot bribe government or lobby congress in the crude perspective you are giving.
@tehatemachine Taxes are also not evil. They are a way of funneling our collective finances and directing it to things that support the whole. Taxes are our scepter of power, not a way for the rich to get even richer. Our forefathers hated the idea of kings. One may replace the word royalty with Fat Cats- it really doesn’t matter. It is the basically same. The one or two percent having such overwhelming wealth and controlling everything is exactly why we fought for our independence.
@littleladyinbigworld "Taxes are also not evil. They are a way of funneling our collective finances and directing it to things that support the whole. Taxes are our scepter of power, not a way for the rich to get even richer." Look at your history books, Regulations + taxes have made the rich own monopolies. Almost EVERY single monopoly that sprouted in the past was a result of some form of government intervention or another. With only very few exceptions.
@littleladyinbigworld Free market capitalism with small government is what the founding fathers intended. This is not interpretation. They wanted to have little government, Yet it amases me how you mention them yet think that government can be related to family. Which they must NEVER be mixed or confused with. The government is NOT your family. They could care less about you or anyone else as a whole.
Unions save American jobs and unsure we can afford goods. In the 50’s during our Union peak, we had our strongest economy in history. As unions declined so did our economy. NAFTA was the cherry on the cake. Foolishness and corporate greed so their stocks could go up and we get our shoes $10 cheaper. If it’s better for us to let the rich get richer as they have, then why has the economy been getting worse since that has been happening? Why have jobs disappeared? It started long before Obama.
@littleladyinbigworld "Unions save American jobs and unsure we can afford goods. @littleladyinbigworld well i guess I was wrong about the whole myth that unions stirred about them saving the economy and creating the middle class fading. What created the middle class where many goods and materials being produced at very high quantity at low costs which in effect made a lot of cars/houses/in home furniture and peripherals very affordable. This was started with Henry fords assembly line, which he payed his workers high wages before unions existed.
@tehatemachine Regulation has not made so many billionaires as deregulation. Look up how millionaires and billionaires have grown (even when balancing out today’s market with yesterdays). They win by separating us, the commons, while they stay fairly united.
And yes they do bribe. They just call it “donations” instead of bribery. If a politician knows he/she is going to lose votes from the NRA and millions of $ in “donations” it will influence them, to say the least. It’s only human.
@tehatemachine“The government is NOT your family. They could care less about you or anyone else as a whole.”
And the CEO billionaires do? They don’t have to worry about being voted out or losing donations. Our forefathers wanted a more efficient and less greedy government. What makes people think the riches and most powerful nation to have ever existed is better off with a tiny government. I’m just asking for moderation (in size) and respect towards its people. The same goes for the fat cats.
@littleladyinbigworld "And the CEO billionaires do?" Of course not, Everyone has self interests. That is what you do right? You have self interest, I have self interest. Even government has self interest. But governmental decision are not voluntary when taken into effect Via regulations. Generally what regulations target. They do the complete opposite in their goals. The minimum wage law is a primary example. It is the most racist law there is in existence.
@littleladyinbigworld "Our forefathers wanted a more efficient and less greedy government." That is not true at all, i'm not greedy but the fellow next to me is what Milton said to Donahue. Basically proving his point that EVERYONE is greedy. The founding fathers knew this. Adam smith wrote about it. Our government only worked so well for so long because of how clever the system was made. They fragmented the power and built emergency systems in place to counter tyranny.
@littleladyinbigworld "What makes people think the riches and most powerful nation to have ever existed is better off with a tiny government." We aren't' against government here. We are against having to much government. The wealthy benefit more when there is larger government. the larger the amount of government. The more divided the classes are. The founding fathers wanted a limited governing body that served basic functions while keeping the powers in check.
@tehatemachine If government work is forced, then why does everyone want a job working for government- state, federal or local? Who wants to bus tables at minimum wage when you could be making a good salary with benefits for you & your family? Yes Ford paid well, but that is one example. Another is the railroads paying in tokens which could only be spent inside the company (for food & medical needs). Often the workers ended up working 15/18 hours a day yet on payday, they owed the company money.
@tehatemachine Unions put a stop to that. Certain politicians are trying to bring back child labor (not talking about paper routes). They should be in school, learning what they want to do with their young lives. If our future doctors & scientists are building widgets instead of getting an education, what then? Unions began the laws to stop this in the 1800’s and now that they are declining, politicians are already trying to pass laws that remove mandatory schooling in favor of child labor.
@littleladyinbigworld "Unions put a stop to that. Certain politicians are trying to bring back child labor" It depends in what you mean by child labor. Not all forms of child labor are bad. In fact i worked when i was below the age of 16. For my families business. I was ahead of most of the people by the time i got a job elsewhere. For a big company though that is different. But for mom and pop shops they should be allowed to teach their children the trade.
@littleladyinbigworld Mandatory government run schooling is terrible in general. Before that there was private schooling, Which gave the parents far more discretion on what their children learn and how they learn it. Now education throughout the United States is failing. people have lost personal responsibility and now leave it in the hands of bureaucrats to decide. Which is a big shame. This used to be a individual society.
@littleladyinbigworld they didn't come in full swing in the U.S though till the 50's like you mentioned. So before that they had little influence. Now you have huge decline in their membership. I am in a union. But i am certainly getting no protection.
@dalecampbl6 it is not desirable for a company to have injured employees, Especially in a higher end job. They would rather have you NOT injured working than with a broken leg. The safer and cleaner the working environment. The more productive it is by default. That's how i try to keep it at my job. Everything organized and highly efficient, The Japanese pioneered this with linear production which contributes to Minimal waste better ergonomics and higher productivity. .
@dalecampbl6 And the myth that REALLY needs to be shattered is the whole "you should be working harder for what i pay" Not true! Working harder towards a certain extend. By it's really not about how much energy you put into it in only one aspect, IT's how much energy you put into it mentally to by utilizing tools around you, be it methods or teamwork, Work smarter not harder! This line of thought created the assembly line. A great invention. of course you already know that.
Raise taxes on the rich i agree they start at level of income 90,000.00 and up of those family bring in...NO TAX BREAK OR LOOPHOLE FOR THE RICH!!!!!!!!!
It’s equivalent to taking all of the food from a family’s house, and then saying, “Fine, if you’re going to whine this much, here- you can have a package of hotdogs back so it doesn’t feel like a total loss to you.” Well I say, FORGET IT! Keep stirring us up, right-wingers. We may not be natural war mongers like you, but our spirit is ten times stronger!
@tehatemachine Ah, yeah. Is that not what ALL people want; control? Name me just one group, Left, Right or other that doesn't. Everyone wants to control their world, and unless you play Amish or Grizzly Adams, the only way to control your own world is to control the same one in which we all share. That does not make EVERYONE "bad" -it simply makes everyone afraid that undesirables shall rule their life. After hearing some of your opinions, it sounds as if you feel the same way as the rest of us.
Now they're going to throw a little scrap to the protesters and allow them to negotiate their wages ONLY. Wow, thanks. Stand still for 1 second and they push you bad 3 steps. Union members are supposed to be so relieved that they're getting SOMETHING, they're expected to just take what they can get and deal with it. WELL I SAY NO LONGER!!! This is another right wing organized attack against the middle class- AGAIN! They started the fire- let them get burned for a change! WE THE PEOPLE!!!
@theamericano33333 Public Sectors are beyond MOB BOSS they control the poor people and the private sectors by the governors’ agency and the feds agency. TAX the large amount people (private sectors) then tax little public sectors (governments people, how can we tax our own self? Just by paying I more money on my paycheck… and I gave little back some.) City of Bell tells the story about corruption and Temple city too.
Fire The Public Sectors Vendors they use smells corruption going on….
@bonfirejovi unions championed almost every worker right and many civil rights.without unions you and your children would be working 80 hour weeks in unsafe conditions with no breaks for a whatever wage they want. learn about unions before opening your mouth. there are many unions and they do become bureaucratic but that is going to happen. overall they are what keep us from being slaves to the government/corporate america.
Right, first of all mate...the slums of England? Come off it....
Secondly Union representation from 86 onwards was hardly beneficial- Just have a look at the 08 case of Adair V.s the U.S, and the countless other examples.
Wheres the Wagner Act? Wheres the social-security Act? These pieces of legislation were way more important in the development of Labour than the fair labour standards Act, in fact without Roosevelts new deal, none of them would have happened.
@skymadeofamethyst .... 1st of all the Wagner act is an amendment to FLSA second of all social security is not more important in the development of labor because it is a social safety net and does not say anything about the workplace dynamic
also when you say 86 that implies 1986 and 08 implies 2008 yet Adair Vs. the U.S. happened in 1908... so wtf are you trying to say
Unions have not become any less necessary and workers can never depend on politicians, we need to earn our rights ourselves.
The projects that labor unions work on, such as building large scale buildings for corporations or large scale banks for finance, don't serve the interests or demands of those who work in the union(people). In fact, it only compounds the problem by making a bank rich off of the property and bulidings the labor union built. Where do you think these corporations get rich anyway? They THRIVE OFF OF Cheap labor!
This also completely ignores the incentives gained by governments who engage in unionization. There is big money in the background and propaganda has filled our textbooks for too many decades. People need to understand the difference between corporatism (central planning) and free market capitalism. Just look at what unions have done to our education system, that and usurping efficient state and local services for a federal monopoly.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Capitalism is simply freedom. It is what our country was founded on, it didn't come about in the 1900s. Besides, we don't have free market capitalism in America anymore, it is dead. Unions are simply a result of a symptom of previous failed central planned economies. After big government oligopolizes industries driving out competition and using protectionist efforts to fuel a war on consumerism, you get the result that lead to people trying to unionize.
That's funny, many people lost freedom or gained none with the arrival of capitalism. Shall I remind you of the coup d'etat(s) organized by the CIA to ensure the prosperity of capitalism?
There's many more than a single coup d'etat that the CIA, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the School of the Americas have organized. Take the recent overthrow in 2009 of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras for instance - replaced with a laissez faire slave labor promoting puppet dictator.
@ILoveWelfare Capitalism is merely an economic system you douche, what the government does in the name of that system is the government's fault not the economic system. Communism, as an economic system was bad because of mass starvation and collectivization not because of the red army or imperialism.
Organized labor has worked miracles for America. We’ve enjoyed the standard of living we’re accustomed to as a direct result of Labor Unions, which used to boast an 80% membership of American workers.

@littleladyinbigworld "If government work is forced, then why does everyone want a job working for government" Because that is voluntary action.

@tehatemachine Unions put a stop to that. Certain politicians are trying to bring back child labor (not talking about paper routes). They should be in school, learning what they want to do with their young lives. If our future doctors & scientists are building widgets instead of getting an education, what then? Unions began the laws to stop this in the 1800’s and now that they are declining, politicians are already trying to pass laws that remove mandatory schooling in favor of child labor.
littleladyinbigworld 1 week ago

This used to be a individual society.
tehatemachine 1 week ago
@tehatemachine BTW- Unions existed LONG before Fords days. It started in the mid 1800's.
littleladyinbigworld 1 week ago
@littleladyinbigworld they didn't come in full swing in the U.S though till the 50's like you mentioned. So before that they had little influence. Now you have huge decline in their membership. I am in a union. But i am certainly getting no protection.

@dalecampbl6 it is not desirable for a company to have injured employees, Especially in a higher end job. They would rather have you NOT injured working than with a broken leg. The safer and cleaner the working environment. The more productive it is by default. That's how i try to keep it at my job. Everything organized and highly efficient, The Japanese pioneered this with linear production which contributes to Minimal waste better ergonomics and higher productivity. .
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@dalecampbl6 And the myth that REALLY needs to be shattered is the whole "you should be working harder for what i pay" Not true! Working harder towards a certain extend. By it's really not about how much energy you put into it in only one aspect, IT's how much energy you put into it mentally to by utilizing tools around you, be it methods or teamwork, Work smarter not harder! This line of thought created the assembly line. A great invention. of course you already know that.

These pieces of legislation were way more important in the development of Labour than the fair labour standards Act, in fact without Roosevelts new deal, none of them would have happened.
skymadeofamethyst 1 year ago
@skymadeofamethyst .... 1st of all the Wagner act is an amendment to FLSA second of all social security is not more important in the development of labor because it is a social safety net and does not say anything about the workplace dynamic
also when you say 86 that implies 1986 and 08 implies 2008 yet Adair Vs. the U.S. happened in 1908... so wtf are you trying to say
Unions have not become any less necessary and workers can never depend on politicians, we need to earn our rights ourselves.

What is the last song called, that is played during the outro? I could really use it.
PSerpent 1 year ago

-"Capitalism is simply freedom."-
That's funny, many people lost freedom or gained none with the arrival of capitalism. Shall I remind you of the coup d'etat(s) organized by the CIA to ensure the prosperity of capitalism?
ILoveWelfare 1 year ago 2
There's many more than a single coup d'etat that the CIA, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the School of the Americas have organized. Take the recent overthrow in 2009 of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras for instance - replaced with a laissez faire slave labor promoting puppet dictator.
musicalidea 1 year ago
@musicalidea Zelaya was a fucking commie. He would've turned Honduras into a terrorist haven and base for attacks on the US.
DarrelfromZeeland 1 year ago
@ILoveWelfare Capitalism is merely an economic system you douche, what the government does in the name of that system is the government's fault not the economic system. Communism, as an economic system was bad because of mass starvation and collectivization not because of the red army or imperialism.
