it is fast. I just got my first MAC :). A Macbook Pro 13" 2010 Edition. A+++. I cant belive this thing shuts down in 2.5 secs :) and one it wakes up from sleep it restores like in less than 1.5 sec :)

ubuntu is better.10.10 is really a perfect desktop.of course the icons are not as good as in os x.but the're are thousands of sites to download big HD icons like interfacelift,iconfinder,vista­icons,devianart,iconspedia(all of them have green WOT scorecards)the window style in ubuntu is far cleaner.i don't like the 'traffic lights' in os x.the dock?-gnome do,cairo dock,docky. the software is of far higher quality than in windows and especially os x.and everything is FREE.plus -compiz.

but VO falls flat when installing and using compatible 3rd party software. macs are so insular. it does some things brilliantly, but everythin isn't as rosey in the mac garden as apple and it's devotee's would have us believe. programs do quit. stuff does freeze. you can get malicious software attacks. there are plenty of little annoyances. after a couple of weeks with this thing, i got the feeling that mac users are shaping their perceptions on hype and not reality. gone back to pc windows..

tried it hoping the VoiceOver speech would match the hype, and it does; provided you don't take it out of it's comfort-zone. system nav; it's brilliant. web nav; pretty good but the commands are inefficient. trackpad is the quickest but makes the fingers very sore. all that flicking takes it's toll. after i configured it, it returned to default for no reason. some toggles dont work. the speech is inconsistent and irratic when reading large blocks of text or in word processing. awful in pdf's..

I doubt it, Snow Leopard calculates disk space in base 10 instead of base 2 that other operating systems use. Its more along the lines of what hard drive manufacturers use, so its more accurate. However, it did not give you back 20gb of hard drive space, more like 7-10 at most.

Excellent review and I wholeheartedly agree that its worth the money, in fact I'm probably one of the minority who actually thought the family pack was such good value that I would stay legal and bought one instead of re-using a single license on both of my macs.

Speed improvement is great, new Quicktime is excellent and whilst I already loved my Macbook and iMac it's just improved the experience.

I'm a self confessed fanboy, I was die hard PC until 3 years ago but crash free computing is ace!

they re-wrote 90% of the Leopard code to make snow leopard, making it 64-bit only compatible...if you mac was made in the past 3-4 years possibly you should be able to run fine
