And humans are not only things in the world that have notion of home ownership or property. Lions, wolfs, bears, whales etc etc etc. do have territorys that they will also protect from "intruders". Even (some) insects do have.

@electrotrolha Your logic is flawed. Shark attacks are a rare event and if it happens to you, you are very unlucky. You are more likely to drown in a swimming pool then get attacked by a shark. The sea is a wonderful place and it' naturel, where as a swimming pool you're just swimming in chlorine and other peoples piss. It does not matter how popular a beach is, a shark attack can happen anywhere and you can't see it coming, it's always a surprise.

I've been going to the beach since I was 6, I'm 15 now which isn't that big of a difference. but I always surf. So I'm pretty far into the water. The only encounter I has was when it swam ten feet away from me. So as you can see it's rare that it happens.

The beach is a fun place to go swimming too. It doesnt ruin your hair like swimming pools do. Plus is extremely rare to even get bit. She honestly didnt know. The water at the shore is also normally muckier because of the sand being so close. I understand what you were saying but soemtimes, we just dont know and take the risk. :)

Poor girl! So lucky to have made it though, a few years back a young lady was swimming just near a deep drop off at a popular island near my place and she had both her arms taken by a Bull Shark. Unfortunately the brave man who went in to get her couldn't save her and she died on the beach from blood loss. Needless to say, people don't swim there any more!
