Charlie, what the fuck did the League of Nations ever accomplish? That's an outrageous red herring I have to call you on. The League of Nations is one of the most colossal foreign policy failures of the 20th century.
I find it strange that internationalism is so frowned upon by conservatives. Didn't we just go through 8 years fighting two wars virtually alone? Don't you think a change in tone might prove helpful?
The LON was at least an attempt at a greater good. Yes, it failed. But Krauthammer also mentioned the Treaty of Versailles. No? Signing a peace treaty and setting up The League of Nations seems like something one can hang a Nobel Peace Prize on. On the other hand, Obama's deeds...not so much...
I definitely agree that Obama has a room full of hats and has yet to mount a hanger. Anyone with a brain can see he has yet to "do" much of anything. I'm not addressing that point, just criticizing Charlie's example.
So if the League was such a failure (don't get me started on the Treaty of Versailles, which by most historical perspectives was arguably the primary cause of WWII) aren't we back at determining the recipient's merit in terms of effort instead of deeds?
