  • I'm a teen, and a Catholic...this song can feed the teenager AND the Catholic out of me! Peace be with you Jim <3 R.I.P.

  • Wow...this is a cracking band...nyc studio tight

  • miss you, jimmy.....thank you for being such a tremendous inspiration on my own work :) i'll never be as good as you, though.....and i'm content with that. just so long as your work exists, makes me happy. to a legend, man....

  • @shenked True.

  • did he died?

  • @poopmcscoopface yes he is deaded

  • jim was the best

  • Redemed through pain, not through joy. Love it.

  • ONLY DUDE WITH THE OPIATE SPANGLED VOICE

  • Your were a great person Jim and I can totally relate. People like me and you have been through so much and most people will never understand. I completely understand what youve been through and I truly respect you for pulling yourself together and remaining strong the rest of your life.... R.I.P Jim <3

  • @KISSMEMYFOOL69 meh give me a fucking break...you dont get clean and write a book one every 10 years. he was still using. thats the con. we just get better at hiding it.

  • @zonkedhombre Well I guess youre right. He was probably still using ( because most people still do even if they say they dont) but he still went through alot of other crazy stuff and still tried to do better with his life than he did before right?

  • R.I.P., Jim. I love your music.

  • I love this guy!!!!

  • As a fomerCatholic school girl who attended Latin mass for 10 years I can relate. Never did drugs but TOTALLY RELATE!! JC RULES!!!

  • @preciousbash JEsus is not real sorry.

  • Yeah baby!

  • thanks for all of it jim, my never met mentor and companion.

  • this song is for you my brother.....!!!!!!

  • the poet laureate of new york city...rest in peace..

  • or do someone kwon where I can listen to this songs?

  • Could someone add "love crimes" and "low rider"?

  • low rider is now on you tube

  • Btw I had no idea he had passed away, this prompted me to listen to this song I hadn't heard for ages. It's still as good as it was ages ago, last time I listened to it. RIP Jim.

  • pog mo thoin !!! R .I. P. J .C.

  • Maybe not this version

  • Isn't this Pearl Jam playing back up......I'm pretty sure it is

  • @TheLimdawg The title says Jim Carroll Band, that's the ORIGINAL version, recorded in 1980. Eddie Vedder was only 16 then.

  • Irish Americans rule!

  • has anyone else noticed how similar duke basketball forward kyle singler looks like the late great author of "the basketball diaries"?........i'm not sure what point i'm trying to make and duke is considered among one of the better places of academia outside the ivy league so i gotta think that it had to have been brought to his attention, if it has been, he must've at least read some writings, it'd've been nice if a tribute piece was done by a sports media outlet, or maybe not...

  • @bobfromtempe haha I'm a duke fan. I don't completely agree, but the comparison is interesting

  • They say he stopped taking drugs in 1973 i believe. His witting is so unique i love it, i wish i could have met him and rocked out. R.I.P your the man

  • "its not to late to fall in love with sharon tate."

  • Why did he die?? did he lived a normal life after using drugs?

  • @BrightGreenDream Jim died of natural causes, heart attack I think. Something like that. Normal life after drugs? Debatable. What's a normal life for a poet, living day to day in a culture that doesn't care much about poets? How can you be normal with the knowledge of the underworld junkies carry in their minds?

  • Yes, I understand. This is so sad of course(

But I would like him to be happy after all

  • @BrightGreenDream Yeah but even after drugs, peoples lives can be real hard

  • Just so much Freek'in talent..

  • Artist, Musician, Poet, Madman and New York Legend Jim Carrol... Rest in Peace.

He was Talent :} Amen to that.

  • Comment removed

  • Jim, you kicked asses. I hoped to see you in the real life but i guess i can forget it now.

    R.I.P

  • † R.I.P. Jim Carroll †

  • jim deserves a fu@ken award for basketball diares, chase the feckin dragon he he

  • @william9482 TRUE < TRUE< TRUE!!!

  • yeah he is, fuck-tard.

  • Watching the credits to E.T. led to here. A young boy crying over his fallen alien friend. It can be quite moving. It can kind of bend you for a moment. Both joy and sorrow happen without a drug. Lets be careful but still go deep, and always remember there is a dream inside the sleep.

  • I bet he could have been a great high school teacher.

  • not to be disrespectful, but in my middle school we had a teacher who abused many drugs earlier in his life like Jim and it seemed that he was the teacher who everyone listened to the most. he just grabbed everyones attention when he was teaching. if his lesson became boring he would tell a story from his past and we would all get drawn in. so i think that it would be cool to have jim carroll as a teacher but i don't think many people would understand him it's like having bob dylan as a teacher.

  • and by not understanding him i don't mean how he speaks i mean how he explains things because he doesn't stay on subject but everything he says has an importance to it.

  • @irishboss29

not so he kept on subject fine .he was one of the smartest people I've ever meet. pick any subject and besides his opinion he had loads of facts on it.

  • paix a son ame

  • wow, fuck you!

  • In SuperTasm's defense he has a point.

  • whats wrong with heroin? Most of the greatest artists were high as hell when they made their songs.

Wonder why music these days suck so bad? It's because they outlawed drugs.

  • Perhaps you should experiment with it for a while and tell the rest of us how it turns out...

  • he was able to turn addiction in to art.

Everybody has their own source and work with they have.

  • oh wow you've mastered irony. you are fucking a legend of literature, your prose and, indeed, poetry, will last forever. thoug your body may rot, the spirit of SuperTasm will live on in our heart and as part of our culture, you absolute beggar.

  • i'm glad SOMEbody appreciates my insight.

thank you, frank. thank you so much.

  • your right what a fabulous ex junkie he was

    jim i salute you brother

    rip

  • @TheHappydead

  • Good bye Jim we'll miss you !

  • RIP Jim

  • RIP Jim.....You rock....

  • "Catholic Boy" was the finest albums that I ever heard growing up in the early 80's. Funny thing is, I always thought the final verse of this song was, "Now, I'm a Catholic man/I put the woman to the rail whenever I can!" I know it's wrong but knowing Carroll, he would like other people's interpretations of his work.

    I salute you bruddah!

  • his words live on... R.I.P

  • dude u rule man :p

  • jim carroll lives

  • This guy is why I'm a writer. So sad.

  • RIP I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

  • Haha, I'm in the same boat actually. :(

  • Thanks, Jim Carroll, for all you did for us all.

  • Good bye, Jim. American Rimbaud.

  • alternativetomain- read this!:

Bowie did 3 lp's with Iggy. The Idiot, Lust for Life, and 'Blah Blah Blah' Bowie never "made" Iggy do anything. They did things together. Bowie even says he was more in awe of Iggy than Iggy was of him. Get your facts straight. Bowie played keyboard for Iggy on "The Idiot" tour. There ya go. and Iggy is the best. Jim too. RIP JIM. love ya. xoxox.

  • R.I. P.Jim.

  • best smack film i ever saw ,i cant even watch it ever again .....

  • requiem for a dream and traibnspotting are better, i'd say this is my third favourite.

  • trainspotting defo ,but i felt this had a lot of stuff i could relate to ,and god how cool was jim carrol????

  • great song

    great lyric

  • good shit

  • I was redeemed through pain, not through joy.

  • (rap) well the priesters are mean but jesus was nothing but love

  • im from argentina, i know the movie and is really awesome. i have a cousin who have the same same problem, totally detroy. his mom have to call police mani times. but when i talk with him, he laught for anything that i dont know, he dont stop to smoke, the say me about people and evils that see and things like that

    is sad but true

  • i hear huge bowie influence

  • I was thinking more Iggy Pop meets Ian Hunter.

  • lol! iggy's god man. he wasn't influenced by anyone except when bowie tried to commercialize him in the 1980's, produced the one cd with a ton of music vids and made "god" cut his hair. jim, influenced by iggy. sure. ;)

  • i have been looking for to read but so far i could only find the book and movie i mentioned.

His story changed me...Sometimes i feel really depressed when i start thinking about it but no one else knows why im like that.

  • Have any of you guys seen the movie or read the book basketball Diaries? The book is actaully his journal from his teenage years. You know? He was hooked on a lot of drugs and became a musician when he got clean to talk about life in a creative way.you gotta read the book if u like him. but be prepared to feel pain, he went thru drugs, rape, alcohol and so much other pain.the movie was based on this book and Leonardo DiCaprio played Jim Carroll Tell me if u have seen the movie or read the book!

  • i have read all of his books i could find

  • The book is brilliant, one of the best you'll ever read. The movie was fucking terrible, an insult. Don't stop at The Basketball Diaries, though, read them all. A great compilation is Fear of Dreaming. Void of Course is also very good, although it slips when Carroll tries too hard to remain relevant with poems about Cobain, etc. If he ever has a reading near you, go go go. Just stay away from that fucking movie.

  • both i love jim carroll..

  • the book is fucking awesome way better than the movie

  • God this is nice music. Not scratchy but still some kind of punk in there.

  • im havin flashbacks from my catholic school days listening to this song

  • Song rocks.

  • @bronte7403 although classified as a "new Wave" artist Jim Carroll was the antidote to the ramones twisted bubblegum take as "punk rock" Jim was the ultimate punk, sophisticated, street bred, real as it ever got

  • LOVE Jim Carroll & this video, THANKS
