@Carfanaticify MD-11 is built from scratch with all the MD-11 modernizations and efficiencies. The MD-10 was a DC-10 converted to make it more efficient and up to date like an MD-11.

Actually FedEx is the only airline to operate the MD-10. As mentioned before it is a conversion programme for the DC-10 developed by FedEx and McDonnell Douglas in the late 90s. It includes the installation of the "Advanced Common Flight Deck (ACF)", the same as on the MD-11 and some other minor upgrades. It allows a common type rating for MD-10 and MD-11 and the elimination of the flight engineer.
md-10 is a program that boeing is doing. Pretty much all DC-10s you see are likely to be an MD-10 now. MD-10 significanlty retro fits the flight deck to modern technology and removes the flight engineer. So its only a 2 man crew, as is usual even on a 747.

Look at all DC-10's. The antenna is more towards the top front.
DC-10s flying around. The mod to 'MD-10' is NOT completed..(should be by next summer)--> so ocassionaly, you'll still see the DC flying around till then. There's some on the 'Tube'.
How the hell you can tell if its a MD-10 or a DC-10? the only to know is to go inside the cockpit

The MD 10 is a DC 10 with MD 11 avionics, that means more recent technology and new engines for more efficiency. The MD 10 is only used by FexEx

And all Federal Express -10's are MD-10's. All their "DC-10's" are modified to MD-10's.
