If religion is indeed to define marriage, then marriage should be in the religious realm and civil authority needs to stay out.  If, however, the civil authorities are to address legal sexual unions separately, then Mr. Perkins is simply imposing religion upon the rest of us. I also ask what has religion provided in marriage but a system of extending cultic control, even to the point of using divorce to maintain a religious body through ad uxorem control (something I have personally witnessed)

Marriage is a commitment of love, it has nothing to do wtih gender, no one is trying to "redefine" marriage, it's about love and nothing else.
