@ DerMaskenfrosch Yes, I did meet Konstanze Von Stauffenberg in Zermatt. My impression of her was that she was a very determined, single-minded woman (bearing in mind that she is married to an Englishman, who was also there and I also met), yet proudly retaining her father's Prussian values. And absolutely rightly so. She was a highly impressive woman, no question about that. And, for me, it's good to see an Anglo-German family such as that.

Two years ago, in Zermatt, my wife and I shared a bubble lift with our ski guide and three others. I realised only at the end of the lift that the three that we'd been chatting to were Konstanze (Claus von Stauffenberg's daughter), who is married to a British chap, and their daughter, who is a ski instructor. I have been, subsequently, to where Von Stauffenberg was murdered in Berlin. Seeing that, and understanding the story behind it, was one of the saddest days of my life.

The Captain knows better, as do the rest of the crew. So for the acolytes benefit, they give him a rendition of the Tipperary Song.

Those who fought in the Uboats were not idiots, and they were very brave men.

First of all, that whole idea is ridiculous. Why would a GERMAN u-boat crew need (or want) to listen to more Nazi propaganda which was already being blasted out of every possible source back home? Moreover, most of the submarine crews are NOT Nazis, so why would they want to listen to Nazi music? Also, It's a Long Way to Tipperary was a famous mariners song ever since World War I, so its natural for SUBMARINERS to sing it.
