@bgladwaller I like the raw sound of it. It pisses me off that rolling stones mag called pinkerton too awkward and personal. Fuck them. Poetry is meant to be personal and full of meaning.
@JamesManes What i hated more about that was when it was released they slated it. Saying that it was "Embarrassing" then years later saying it was "Magnificent"... Never liked Rolling Stone
When you understand as well as Rivers as come to. You really can't find that mark of what the unknown is to you when you were younger. I do believe he could find another unknown to write about though. However, I'm really happy with his music and just wish to see what he comes up with next. You never know . . . maybe he'll get lost again. There is a chance but then again . . . you already say he has lost himself. He is more himself now actually. Listening to what he sings about at least.
The title is misspelled, I believe, because it was spelled that way when the song first leaked back in the 90s. I think it was also listed that way in the original recording history and Rivers' own personal spreadsheet catalog.
Actually, what they should have done is made it a b-side of one of the singles. They could easily have dropped one of the live or acoustic tracks on one of those LPs and put this on, then we would have a great studio version of it, like we do with Susanne and Jamie. I hate that they won't even consider re-recording this song, or one of the many lost pinkerton-era tracks that are so epic. If they re-recorded "You Wont Get With Me Tonight" with the guy-girl vocals, we would be in for a treat.
@lilol3chrdme the problem is that this captures them as people and musicians from that era. If they re-recorded it now I can almost guarantee it will have no rawness to it like the old Weez. It will be an unadulterated pristine studio copy that Rivers obsesses over. They were the producers of Pinkteron which is why it's so awesome and stripped down. It's just the guys rocking and usually in one take all together with overdubs for solos and vocals. I agree with MarcFuentos, THIS is their sound.
because then there would be 11 songs instead of 10. duh.
No, but really, i have no idea. Definitely should have gone on blue. but if they did have to kick one to make room, i would definitely miss it. why not blue deluxe?
This is a Top 5 all-time Weezer song for me. A fully produced studio version on Blue would have been incredible. If they wanted to keep the track list at 10, I would have dropped Surf Wax America. I love that song but it's the weakest track on Blue.
Actually I dont think that any song should have been dropped from the album, all the songs are perfect, they should have just added more, that was the only problem with that album is that it was too short of an album. They Should have added this song, Mrs. Young, The Purification of water and paperface. That wuld make an already perfect album even more amazing.
I totally agree with you, I was just spitballing about which song, if you absolutely had to, you would cut of you wanted to keep the ten song album format. Since Weezer seems to like releasing LP's with only ten songs.
I know but I just think that these 10 songs albums are too short cause they just keep you wanting more because weezer usually dosent have long songs anyways so it only becomes like 32 minutes except for some on the red album.
i dont think this sounds like the pumpkins, the pixies on the other hand.........in fact all the kitchen tapes songs are similair to the pixies.....god this is sooooooooo good
That opening riff is just so amazing. gets me everytime. I didnt hear this song until a few years ago, but when I hear it, i feel like its back in the 90s again. it has a sad and dark feel to it, but at the same time, cheerful because of the nostalgia.
i dreamt last night that my mom heard this song and she kept telling me "IT'S SO GOOD! WHY WASN'T IT ON THE BLUE ALBUM?!" i woke in and was just like "wtf?!...that song is so goddamn awesome."
"I' before "e" except after "c."

Not much for the screaming/hoarse Rivers of the pre-Blue demos, but this guitar solo is out of control.

all the best weezer songs seem to be on blue and their bside/ dusty gems/rusty nugget stuff.
i really really wish someone would tab this. i can't figure out the timing on the guitar and the voice in chorus either. :[

This does sound like Weezer doing a Pumpkins song...maybe that's why it sounds familiar even though I've never heard it before. Its good regardless.

This was the original Weezer. It's a sad tragedy of the universe that they didn't continue with this sound.
