I remember watching the opening game of this series, & yeah, the Islanders suprised everyone by winning Game 1 vs the Pens. Most expected Pittsburgh to eventually win the series rather handily. Little did we know...:-);-)
@mrceebees14 but wasnt turgeon in the lineup for most of that series against Montreal? But then again, if he did, he would've been in bad shape from that seperated shoulder. so yeah, hunter's hit did a number to the isles
@Gphazor He came back for game 2 and tried to play the rest of the series, but you could tell he was not at all 100% the way he couldn't grip that junior stick.
It really sucked, to this day I have never, even seen anyone do something as childish and stupid as Hunter did. I have never heard or seen Dale apologize for it to this day and that is pretty much when everyone lost respect for him. You can play tough, but dirty like that is unacceptable.
God, how many short-handed goals did the Islanders score in that series? The Penguins sure did a hell of a job screwing that series up and costing themselves a third consecutive Stanley Cup...
the penguins were just awful, compared to how they played the rest of the season that year. and i don't care how good the penguins do, they should NEVER look forward to playing the islanders in the playoffs...1975, 1982, and 1993. ugh....
Oh I remember this like it was yesterday. I consider this one of the biggest upsets in sports history. People dont realize how good that penguins team was. They won 55 games and had 5 players with 100 or more points. They lost that series in 7 games to an inferior team. Glen Healy stopped like 50 shots or something in game 7 that they won in overtime 4-3. Healy himself said that the Pens were much better than they were. Penguins just real overconfident. As a pens fan, I admit it.

This was the only time I ever rooted for the Islanders. I HATED Pittsburgh.

Both teams had some very sharp uniforms.
I miss'em.

Dale Hunter essentially cost the Isles the cup that year.
They could've beaten the Habs.

@mrceebees14
You can't assume that but it sure hurt the Isles big time!

Great job with this, Sab. That was one gutty, gritty team. This brings back a lot of great memories.
