I grew up near the Sawchuck family and have the pleasure of being friends with Jerry (his son) and laura (his daughter-in-law) I hope someday a movie is made of his life..an amazing story of pain, triumph, family and survival. He has a wonderful family...wish he could know that now.
I just love the way the "Canadien Biography station" ONLY covers his career from Toronto forward. His best years were on the Red Wings and they don't cover that. The amount of insecurity Canadiens show is amazing! Thats okay .. 45 years and counting since last Cup Toronto....
The greatest goalie that ever player. Don't believe it? Just watch a video of game 5 of the 1967 Stanley Cup against the Hawks. I was there, and I am fortunate to have seen what i consider the greatest game ever played by a goaltender. I was also fortunate to have met him after the games and he was always kind enough to sign my programs.

@theghr...So you're saying that getting over four hundred wins and over a hundred shutouts means less then the legend of the greatest goalie of all time? Those performances made him a legend, he is excatly compared to the great Bobby Orr, he was so complete in goal, just as Orr was on defence. Another thing, Plante and Hall even when they were on top of their game still believed that Terry was the best and still is. Other then Marty Brodeur, how many goailes has that stats like that?
Never Saw Him Play but He was the greatest Goal Tender of all time. He was as tough as they came and he was what all Goal Tender Should should be like today tough as Grits. RIP Terry Sawchuck "the Greatest Goaltender of all time"
I'm proud to wear my #1 red wings vintage jersey at all the red wings games. I never got to see him play, but I know he would have been my favorite had I been alive to see him back then.
no words apart from great and legend to have those numbers and in the condition he often played in i dont think anyone of the goalies around nhl or any other leauge would have a bad word about this great. sure records will be broken but no-one will have done it in the ways that he had and no-one ever will just ashame his life ended over setteling a tab truely the greatest loss to hockey at the time and even what he could have brought to the game as a coach would have been unbileveable
Why did he "only" have three first all-star team selections if he was the best ever as some people say? 21 seasons of hockey for some shut-outs does'nt do it for me, just look at Brodeur on the Devils, not the 10/11-edition. ;)
so to the hall and plante lover over there , 1.why are you here downgrading terry , and 2. plante had a WAY better team than terry .... if you don't think so , it dosen't matter , it's true , and hall was not , i repeat NOT better than sawchuk
@SlayerPayback Not downgrading Terry, just being accurate. Sawchuk's best years were behind the best team in the early 50s, Detroit. Plante's best years were behind the best team in the later 50s, Montreal. Hall WAS better than Sawchuk. In stats, All Star teams, even had more shutouts per games than Sawchuk behind teams way worse than what Sawchuk played on. While Hall's stats stayed spectacular behind every team he played on, Sawchuk and Plante's moreso reflected their team's strength.
Glenn Hall was better than Plante.......after Jack Adams stupidly dismantled the Red Wings in the late 50's (INCLUDING SAWCHUK) he didn't have as good a team in front of him as Mont and Chi..........I SAW them all play lots.......Terry was the best
I dont think it's really fair to compare Sawcheck and Brodeur. The game was so different. Yes Sawchuck didn't wear a mask, but the shots weren't as fast then and they rarely shot top shelf. As Ken Dryden said, he only had to defend a net that was about 3 feet high. Not my words, Drydens. But yes as you have said, his paddding was much smaller too. So why don't we just say both goalies are two of the best. Brodeur has fallen off lately, but he is without question one of the best ever.
@tylerdurdonxx Bobby Hull. Considered to have one of the hardest shots of all time. Sawchuk had to play against him. Also try spelling Sawchuk correctly.
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi Clearly I spelled it wrong one time on accident. The other 4 times i typed the name it was correct. But nice try douche bag. Big fucking deal that he faced Bobby Hull. So did every other goalie in the league. Stamkos has a harder shot than Hull. So does Ovechkin and Kovalchuk.
@tylerdurdonxx the person looking for a fight is you. you start throwing insults out for no reason and clearly you do not know what you are talking about. Al MacInnis and Al Iafrate both used wood sticks and Iafrate held his record for hardest shot until Chara barely beat it back in 08 by .2 miles per hour. Yes every other goalie went against Hull yet did they also have 103 shut outs? He was clocked at having a 118.3 mph shot. They never had skills competitions before until the 1990s.
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi Well you're the one starting stuff. I don't care who you heard from who. Bobby Hull never took a shot that was 118 miles per hour. Thats absolutely ridiculous. And if the shot tracker said 118 then it was broken.
@tylerdurdonxx Look it up. I did not start anything I responded to your comment and told you to spell Sawchuk's name right. Kind of ridiculious that you could not do so in the post I was commenting on especially when his name is on this video and all over the comment section.
Facts are Facts. Wood sticks are just as good. Also if you curve the hell out of your stick like lots started to do when Hull and Sawchuk played you could get the puck to rise like crazy.
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi The fact of the matt is I spelled Sawchuck right 5 times and accidently typed an "e"instead of a "u" one time and you're bitching about spelling. Clearly it was a typo. And no. Wood sticks are not just as good. If that was the case players in the nhl would still use wood, but they don't.
@tylerdurdonxx 4 times you spelled his name wrong. That is more then a typo. You put a c before the k which is not the case. Also there are a few who still use wood sticks. Half the sticks you see are painted to say the sponsors name on it. Crosby actually uses a sherwood stick that is painted with Reebook on it, or at least that was the case for many years. Seriously man shut the fuck up and learn the game. You are trying to argue when you were proven wrong 3 times and are just starting a fight
@tylerdurdonxx wood sticks are just as good, the reason why NHL players dont use them is cus the companys that make the sticks tell ppl "oh this one is the best" and get NHL players to test them out so then the NHL player thinks it is the best and end up using them, the non-wood sticks break just as easily as wood ones do
@Jsouthwell2006 Thats bullshit. Wooden sticks are heavier and they dont retain the same flexiblity over time. Composites are far better in almost every way, except for durabliity.
@tylerdurdonxx Hull's shot was timed by a scientific lab team in California in 1968 at 118.2 MPH. That's a recorded fact. It was under perfect conditions, but it did happen. Sawchuk was a great goalie, but not the best of all time. His only dominant years were 1950-55, before the curved stick, before the slap shot, behind the greatest team of that era ( Detroit ). He was great, he was an important goalie in the history of the game, but he was not as good as Brodeur, not as good as Hall or Plante
@hallauthor Ok well I guess I'll just take you're word for it. Since at least you're agreeing that sawchuck is not the best of all time. And argued you're point intelligently unlike that other douchebag down there. The fact of whether Bobby Hull could shoot 118 mph or not is not important to the argument because every other goalie in the league was also facing Hull's shot, not only Sawchuck. Yes he was a great goaltender, but not the best.
@tylerdurdonxx sawchuck is the best goalie ever cus he had 103 shutouts, how can you get a 103 shutouts and play with no mask? the only way you can do that is by being the best, you go play ice hockey without a mask and lets see you try and focus on the task at hand while worrying about being hit with pucks
@hallauthor brodeur isnt better then sawchuck, you cant even compare the two goalies cus they played in different era's, sawchuck played with out a mask and very shitty gear, id like to see you go and play in net with out a mask and the same gear that sawchuck used, do you think you can do what sawchuck did while worrying about being hit in the face with pucks? i highly doubt it
@Jsouthwell2006 You can compare them because Sawchuk wore the best equipment in his day an Brodeur wore the best in his. That stuff all cancels out. Sawchuk wore a mask for the last 7 years of his career. Get it right. I played goal and wore the same pads as Sawchuk and a similar mask to his so I know exactly what it was like. Also, ALL the goalies of Sawchuk's pre-mask days wore the same equipment, all worried about getting hit in the face. Did you ever see Sawchuk play?
@hallauthor no i have never seen him play cus i am only 22, but as far as i know all the goalies back then were fucking warriors (that doesnt include you), brodeur would have never have gotten more then 103 shutouts if it wasnt for the gear that goalies wear today, cus if your a goalie and your not wearing a mask it can affect the way you play cus you would be worried about the puck hitting you in the head and killing you
@Jsouthwell2006 Also, it doesn't matter what I could do, the point is about who was the best and its about what Hall, Plante, and Brodeur did. And all 3 were better than Sawchuk by every legitimate measure of goaltending; GAA, S%, All Star berths, Vezinas, MVP awards, playoff MVP awards, and most importantly, consistency in their brilliance.
@Jsouthwell2006 A persons guts dont have nothing to do with his performance. The performance is what it is, and Brodeur have more shutouts than Sawchuk in less seasons played. That does'nt mean i'm saying he is better or not, couse such a statement cant be read out of such stats. What can be said though is that Sawchuk only had 3 first all-star berths in his career, explain that please.
@theghr it has nothing to do with guts it is a Physiologic thing, does a goalie preform well if he isnt focused? no he doesnt, so you can not compare the goalies of today to the ones in the past, the goalies in the past were fucking warriors and they were the best goalies of all time, sawchuck being on the top of that list cus he had more shutouts and then other goalies in those days
@Jsouthwell2006 So you basicly mean that all those NHL-goalies was better than todays becouse all of them played without a mask? If anything their standard of play would on average be lower becouse not all talents had that courage.
@Jsouthwell2006 And by the way, Sawchuk was well outperformed during his own time wich can be seen in that Glenn Hall was named to the first all-star team seven times and Sawchuk just three. It should also be noted that all of Sawchuks such accolades came before Hall began playing. These guys were born just three years apart, and Sawchuk obviuosly has become somewhat of a hockeys answer to Bob Marley: His legend outperformes his actual career.
@tylerdurdonxx so they had no way of telling how hard every player shot the puck. Next time you want to be an asshole at least have some facts to back up your comments. You call me a homo and a douchebag for stating an opinion yet who is the real douchebag? the one who did so with out throwing insults around or the one who threw an insult because of differing opinions? That would be you.
Sorry dude Sawchuk is the best goalie of all time and this is coming from a Devils fan. Later.
When you consider the equipment he had to play with and the fact that he did not wear a mask for most of his career, He IS the greatest goalie of all time. Yes they didn't shoot as hard, but a puck hitting flesh at 5mph still hurts! Yes he was an alcoholic, which makes his accomplishments even more amazing! Roy was/is a complete idiot......Sawchuk would NEVER tank a game so he could be traded....Brodeur has class.....but he plays for the right team....a team that plays an extreme trap...
@ghno9 You're right about Roy but wrong about Sawchuk. Hall and Plante were better than Sawchuk. The legend of Sawchuk was exaggerated because of his early death. He was great, no question, but not even the best of his time. He was the best from 1950-55, but after that he fell behind both Hall and Plante in stats, troiphies, All Star appearances, etc.
@hallauthor sawchuck had 103 shutouts, in an era when goalies didnt use mask masks and had very shitty gear, how many shutouts did hall and plante have?
@Jsouthwell2006 Sawchuk had 103 shutouts in 20 years, Hall had 84 in 16 years and Plante had 82 in 18 years. Hall averaged more shutouts per game than Sawchuk and played behind worse teams. Also, your assumption that shutouts are the best measure of the best goalie is ridiculous. Its total picture; stats, awards, etc. And again; Sawchuk DID wear a mask longer than Hall did, since you seem to think that's quite important.
@KingXanthar hasek had 6 shutouts in one month thats why i say every goalie is great in their own way, but if your going to pick one to best the greatest ever id say sawchuck cus Sawchuk went through a lot of shit on and off the ice to achieve his record
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi I am biased because I know this issue extremely well. As for being a troll, I'm too tall, although I'm sure you've had your share of trolls.
@sportshistorybuff It was a lot of things that built up over the whole of his short but brilliant life. His older brother whom he idolised, died at the age of 17. He broke his right arm at the age of twelve which left it a few inches shorter than his left, because he hid the injury from his parents from fear of punishment. The stress of having to play game after game, day in, day out. As far as I know, teams back then didn't really carry back-up goaltenders with them. He dealt with countless
@sportshistorybuff countless injuries, three operations on his elbow, ruptured discs in his back, a broken foot, severed tendons in his hand, he had his nose broken many times, a collapsed lung and over four hundred stitches in his face. Also, due to his unusual goaltending 'stance' he developed a problem with his back which stopped him from sleeping properly. Detroit traded Sawchuk to Boston which crippled his self confidence. During his second season with Boston he developed glandular fever.
@sportshistorybuff With all of this built on top of him he announced retirement in 1957 with the media calling him a 'quitter'.
I think with all of this huge misfortune in mind, coupled with the stress of being a goalie (I can tell you at first hand) added with his untreated depression for most of his life, this is why he was pretty unhappy. Crippled by depression, chronic stress and constant injury. Which in my view makes him the best goaltender the world has ever (and will ever) see.
@theouterbanks You give an accurate description of Sawchuk's demons and physical issues, but those facts do not make him the best goalie. Sympathy is wonderful but it doesn't help historical evaluation. He was the best goalie in the game his first 5 years. That's statistical fact. But after that, his numbers and play slipped. His early death exaggerated the perception of his excellence. Fact is, statistically, both Hall and Plante were better than Sawchuk, so he wasn't even the best of that era.
@hallauthor The fact that he fought depression and alcoholism just to play shows how brave and talented he was. Also his face was split up because of all the pucks he took and one of his arms was significantly shorter than the other.
Almost anyone would quit with all the horrible things in Terry's life. I don't think you understand what those records mean coupled with his miserable life. He is the greatest.
@rebelslayer13 I do understand his record, but ( unlike Glenn Hall...most games in a row, most All Star teams named to ) none of his "records" stand anymore, they've been broken. No one is questioning his talent or bravery. EVERY goalie of that era had his face split up from pucks. But facts are facts; Hall and Plante were better longer and more consistently. I saw them all play and have written about that era extensively. In history, Sawchuk is no better than 5th.
@hallauthor Well obviously he's not the best, I would even go so far as to say Patrick Roy is better. But he has got to be the greatest. Especially with reaching that ungodly number of shutouts before his early death.
@rebelslayer13 He's not the best but he's the greatest? Doesn't make any sense. He died at 40 years old, so the relation between his age and his shutout total mean nothing. Break down when he got the shutouts; 56 of them in his 1st 5 years, before the slap shot, when he played behind the best team of the time. In his last 15 yrs, only made the All Star team twice, and not the First AS Team. For those first 5 years, in that era, he was the best. But his last 15 years, he was not special.
@hallauthor Oh come on. Being a great person is different than having the best stats. It makes perfect sense.
You're not going to tell me Wayne Gretzky is greater than Bobby Orr just because of his numbers. When Darren McCarty lost his family and his job, then came back and won the Stanley Cup you probably thought Crosby deserved it.
@rebelslayer13 Here's a thought: try to be clear. Are you saying Sawchuk was a great person? He wasn't; he was a great goalie and a troubled person. He just wasn't the greatest goalie. One has nothing to do with the other. Gretzky and Orr played different positions, can't compare them.
@hallauthor I'm just saying that I think he was great, because he was brave. My friend's mom had to go through a very similar experience, with untreated alcoholism and depression, as well as the same family problems. I like Sawchuk because, unlike my friend's mom, he pulled through. She ended up dead by an overdose of pills and it breaks my heart to see one of the nicest guys I know wind up in the hospital on occasion for cutting his wrists because he can't afford a therapist.
@hallauthor And I didn't compare Orr to Gretzky in terms of how they played their positions, just on how hard they tried with what they had.
Why doesn't it make sense? McCarty coming back from rock bottom makes him a brave person, much like it does for Sawchuk. You can judge them by statistics or by what matters most.
I just didn't like how all you see in Terry Sawchuk was records compared to Glenn Hall, rather than his immense effort.
@rebelslayer13 Sorry about your friend but that has nothing to do with Sawchuk's bravery. ALL NHL goalies were brave in those days, all overcame various challenges. You started the discussion saying Sawchuk was the greatest; he wasn't. He had a lot of challenges, some he overcame, some he didnt. He did not get over his alcoholism which was sad and led to his death. I think athletes should be judged by their accomplishments AND their character, which is why Hall was the greatest. Study him and..
@rebelslayer13 you'll see what real character was. McCarty/Crosby argument is non-sense. Both were on Cup winners, both deserved it because of their abilities, character, and strength of their teams. No one "deserved" it more than the other.
As for your friend, every county in the US offers free psych services for those who can't afford help. Our postings mean nothing compared to the help he needs. He CAN find it, and I hope he does.
@SlayerPayback Sawchuk was deemed the best goalie in the league three times at the time, Hall was so seven times. Just count the first all-star team berths and then explain to me why Sawchuk was better when those who actually witnessed them play clearly had it the other way around.
Can we end the silly argument that Sawchuk didn't face curved sticks and 100 mph slap shots? In 1960 Bobby Hull had already developed the hardest and highest 100 mph slap shot ever seen - including now. The sticks were more curved in the early sixties than they are now because of regulations later enforced due to Mikita, Hull and others, who had spoon-shaped blades. The last half of Sawchuck's 20-year career saw the introduction of goalie masks because of the curved stick slap shots.
sure sawchuck was good but he wouldnt stand a chance today hocky is like 200 percent faster and back then three fourths of players didnt have curved sticks he would get destroyed today
You guys got to stop comparing Sawchuck to Brodeur. Who cares who's better. But one thing I will say is that Terry Sawchuck may not be better then Brodeur, (or better, your opinion) but Sawchuck was the toughest goalie to play the game, along with outstanding playing ability. I'd like to see Brodeur to be put in Sawchucks place.
IMO Roy and Brodeur are nowhere near what Sawchuk was. Only goalie I'd say that was near or at his level was Tretiak. Brodeur has about 100 more games as well.
@1stinsailing Ridiculous. Sawchuk was brilliant the first 5 years of his career. After that, his numbers dropped to average. Both Hall and Plante were better than Sawchuk for much longer, and Tretiak may be the most overrated goalie of all time. He never played in the NHL grind, and the Euro game he played in wasn't anywhere near the competition or grind of the NHL.
brodeur deals with a 82 game scedule. terry didnt. its pointless comparing them the game is so different. But i will say this, if you take terrys style and put him in het today he will save NOTHING. Put broduer in net back than he laugh, it would be to easy. Majority of shots back than where shots along the ice and he would save them all.
if we put brodeur in net back than he would save everything, every goalie in todays day and age would. Todays game is faster, trickier, faster and harder shots, bigger hits and bigger bodies, the game is better in every way. Therfore if you put terry sawchuk with his style of play in net today we would laugh, he may not even be in the nhl. Instead of a basic side to side deke that every goalie today will sleep on he would have to face dangles.
How many games did it take Brodeur take to break it? There are more clubs today, so I argue the talent pool is a little watered down...but...on the other hand the Europeans are here now. Skaters are bigger, faster, and more powerful but somehow play with a lot less finesse. Both are great...edge to Sawchuk IMO.
Brodeur has more shutouts than Sawchuk. But Sawchuk went through a lot of shit on and off the ice to achieve his record. Sawchuk remains the bravest man ever to play the game.
@rebelslayer13 I agree that Sawchuck was the bravest netminder ever to play goal. But I believe it took a few more years for Brodeur to reach 103 shutouts to tie the all time record. I may be wrong though. But nonetheless Sawchuck made his mark.
@rebelslayer13 yeah sure but the equipment and style that sawchuck used was pioneering to all goaltenders, martin broduer wouldnt be stopping shit if Sawchck
Sawchuk is a great goalie I'm not disputing that how ever I believe that Brodeur is the greatest the shutout and win records are proof of that yes masks make a difference how ever Brodeur's pads are not near the size of most of the other guys in the league today.
I've grown up hearing about this guy all my life. My grandpa told me that he watched a lot of Sawchuks games and told me that there was no way any goalie today was better than Sawchuk. And I'll have to agree. 103 shutouts, 400+ wins, back then? When there weren't as many games, and it was "easier to score" back then? Terry Sawchuk is surely the best of all time. Nobody compares. I only wish he were alive so I could have gotten the chance to meet the legend behind the name.
@ActoneSUCKA and to do it with the equipment that he had and no mask either, brodeur wears a mask and top of the line gear so when a puck hits him he doesnt feel anything
No offence to Orr, but alot of great defenceman played since he retired and he's still the best. Likewise with Sawchuk, alot of great goalies played since he passed on and his records are broken too. So he should be placed on the same level with Orr in that regard. In other words... both played in a different era, both are the best.
I have a great respect for today's 'Keepers like Brodeur, Luongo, Miller, and Fleury, but those guys back in the Original 6 were THE BEST 'keepers to ever play. I saw a game last week where a Gaolie's mask came off and they blew teh play dead which is the rule,a nd I'm think, what would Glenn Hall and the Boys think about that?Terry Sawchuk...a great Goalie that had a lot of inner Deamons...read the book about him if you can get it..
I read the book shutout based on Terrys life. From his early 20s he played with bone chips in his elbow and later herniated discs in his back(he had 2 back surgerys) there is no gaolie today who would have played with this kind of pain. This makes what he did all that much more remarkable.Terry is the best.
Sawchuk also played in the pre expansion era when there were only six teams so you were up against some of the best 100 of your contemporaries. Teams usually trotted out the number one goalie every night with few nights off for the Sawchuk, Glenn Hall, Gump Worsley and others. There was very little sharing of the duties.
just because brodeur has more shut out than sawchuk is nothing back than it did u see the size of the paddings it would be unbielvable to get a shutout with no mask either but look @ brodeur this century the paddings are dinosaur size and masks are made of good stuff so therefore SAWCHUK IS THE SHUTOUT KING!
@MrShutupbi actually brodeur has the smallest pads in the league, not that im taking anything away from these old school guys, jumping infront of pucks with barely any padding on, its suicide
have you ever shot a puck with a flat stick??? thats why they didn't wear masks back in the day cause you couldn't get the biscuit two feet off the ice. better equipment today, composite stick with a bent blade= faster shot. athletes today are beasts compared to that of other eras. the medicine, the training, equipment. I would of like to have seen sawchuck play in today's nhl! overated, certainly not.
u can still shoot high with a flat blade how else did plante get injured? like u said, goalies have smaller equipment back then an they got bruised up badly than today, im not sayin goalies cant get injured from the puck today cuz they still can but in the 50s all goalies had lots of guts to go in front of the shot, besides any goalie can play a 1000 games on a good team an get over 500 wins, its common sence
First of all you most certainly can get a high hard shot with a straight blade..you clearly have never played with a straight blade, all the way through minor hockey and two years of Uni. plenty of players in the 60's had curved blades. You are right on other accounts though. The athletic aspect of the game has changed as it has in all sports just as the equipment has...it pointless to compare athletes from 40+ years ago to todays athletes...you're right he was certainly not overrated.
@ActoneSUCKA the goalies now a days are good, cus it isnt easy to play a full 60 mintues unless your in good shape and you still have to be good at cutting off the angles and being square with the shooter, the the goalies back then will always be better then the goalies now, cus they did it with out masks and with out high tech gear and stuff on
@ActoneSUCKA I have the up-most respect for Sawchuk and I do believe he was the best of all time, but these are two different generations we're talking about here, Brodeur may be wearing a mask and he may be wearing twice the equipment but he is also getting twice as many shots fired at him.
First of you cant spell...and second what are you talking about?...what does Crosby have to with Sawchuck or Brodeur?...Crosby Sucks?...what have you achieved in your life?..what are you good at?
Since you are so accomplished and you understand the hard work and dedication it takes to be competitive and successful...one would think you would have more class, understanding and brotherhood with someone who has worked very hard to get where he has and to have achieved what he has...you need to grow up...comments like "crosby sucks" makes you a very small immature person, with a narrow field of view...in truth its you who sucks by not seeing the big picture, you just don't know it yet.
what is wrong with u? who gives a lecture reply to a comment. ur a retard if u send messages like that to other people. so stop sending me retard messages
True he will always be a Wing but he was really one of the best that ever played the game. And he certainly had bigger balls than any other goalie to stand in the net. The players today with their huge pads simply don't measure up.
Typical hockey media and Cdn hockey state of mind-show nothing but Sawchuk with the Leafs. Bleh. Terry was a Wing, through and through. Second best goaltender of all time, next to Dominik Hasek.
thats my sec cousin, i never met him he passed away before i was born but its cool hearing stories about how good he was, my family told me alot of stories to bad i never met him in person
I grew up near the Sawchuck family and have the pleasure of being friends with Jerry (his son) and laura (his daughter-in-law) I hope someday a movie is made of his life..an amazing story of pain, triumph, family and survival. He has a wonderful family...wish he could know that now.

Another thing, Plante and Hall even when they were on top of their game still believed that Terry was the best and still is. Other then Marty Brodeur, how many goailes has that stats like that?

no words apart from great and legend to have those numbers and in the condition he often played in i dont think anyone of the goalies around nhl or any other leauge would have a bad word about this great. sure records will be broken but no-one will have done it in the ways that he had and no-one ever will just ashame his life ended over setteling a tab truely the greatest loss to hockey at the time and even what he could have brought to the game as a coach would have been unbileveable

Why did he "only" have three first all-star team selections if he was the best ever as some people say? 21 seasons of hockey for some shut-outs does'nt do it for me, just look at Brodeur on the Devils, not the 10/11-edition. ;)

@theghr You're exactly right.
hallauthor 1 year ago
so to the hall and plante lover over there , 1.why are you here downgrading terry , and 2. plante had a WAY better team than terry .... if you don't think so , it dosen't matter , it's true , and hall was not , i repeat NOT better than sawchuk
SlayerPayback 1 year ago
@SlayerPayback Not downgrading Terry, just being accurate. Sawchuk's best years were behind the best team in the early 50s, Detroit. Plante's best years were behind the best team in the later 50s, Montreal. Hall WAS better than Sawchuk. In stats, All Star teams, even had more shutouts per games than Sawchuk behind teams way worse than what Sawchuk played on. While Hall's stats stayed spectacular behind every team he played on, Sawchuk and Plante's moreso reflected their team's strength.
hallauthor 1 year ago
Glenn Hall was better than Plante.......after Jack Adams stupidly dismantled the Red Wings in the late 50's (INCLUDING SAWCHUK) he didn't have as good a team in front of him as Mont and Chi..........I SAW them all play lots.......Terry was the best
ghno9 1 year ago
@ghno9 Adams did not discard Sawchuk in the late 50s. He brought him back in 57 and Sawchuk was with them until he went to Tor in the mid 60s.

Like Bobby Hull's slapshot with a shitty wooden stick is really going to compare with the composites guys use now.....
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
I'm not knocking Sawchuck by any means though. I have mad respect for the old time hockey players, and Sawchuck is a legend.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
I dont think it's really fair to compare Sawcheck and Brodeur. The game was so different. Yes Sawchuck didn't wear a mask, but the shots weren't as fast then and they rarely shot top shelf. As Ken Dryden said, he only had to defend a net that was about 3 feet high. Not my words, Drydens. But yes as you have said, his paddding was much smaller too. So why don't we just say both goalies are two of the best. Brodeur has fallen off lately, but he is without question one of the best ever.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx Bobby Hull. Considered to have one of the hardest shots of all time. Sawchuk had to play against him. Also try spelling Sawchuk correctly.
EyesOfTheSouthSTi 1 year ago
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi Clearly I spelled it wrong one time on accident. The other 4 times i typed the name it was correct. But nice try douche bag. Big fucking deal that he faced Bobby Hull. So did every other goalie in the league. Stamkos has a harder shot than Hull. So does Ovechkin and Kovalchuk.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx the person looking for a fight is you. you start throwing insults out for no reason and clearly you do not know what you are talking about. Al MacInnis and Al Iafrate both used wood sticks and Iafrate held his record for hardest shot until Chara barely beat it back in 08 by .2 miles per hour. Yes every other goalie went against Hull yet did they also have 103 shut outs? He was clocked at having a 118.3 mph shot. They never had skills competitions before until the 1990s.
EyesOfTheSouthSTi 1 year ago
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi Well you're the one starting stuff. I don't care who you heard from who. Bobby Hull never took a shot that was 118 miles per hour. Thats absolutely ridiculous. And if the shot tracker said 118 then it was broken.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx Look it up. I did not start anything I responded to your comment and told you to spell Sawchuk's name right. Kind of ridiculious that you could not do so in the post I was commenting on especially when his name is on this video and all over the comment section.
Facts are Facts. Wood sticks are just as good. Also if you curve the hell out of your stick like lots started to do when Hull and Sawchuk played you could get the puck to rise like crazy.
EyesOfTheSouthSTi 1 year ago
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi The fact of the matt is I spelled Sawchuck right 5 times and accidently typed an "e"instead of a "u" one time and you're bitching about spelling. Clearly it was a typo. And no. Wood sticks are not just as good. If that was the case players in the nhl would still use wood, but they don't.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx 4 times you spelled his name wrong. That is more then a typo. You put a c before the k which is not the case. Also there are a few who still use wood sticks. Half the sticks you see are painted to say the sponsors name on it. Crosby actually uses a sherwood stick that is painted with Reebook on it, or at least that was the case for many years. Seriously man shut the fuck up and learn the game. You are trying to argue when you were proven wrong 3 times and are just starting a fight
EyesOfTheSouthSTi 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx wood sticks are just as good, the reason why NHL players dont use them is cus the companys that make the sticks tell ppl "oh this one is the best" and get NHL players to test them out so then the NHL player thinks it is the best and end up using them, the non-wood sticks break just as easily as wood ones do
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 Thats bullshit. Wooden sticks are heavier and they dont retain the same flexiblity over time. Composites are far better in almost every way, except for durabliity.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx Hull's shot was timed by a scientific lab team in California in 1968 at 118.2 MPH. That's a recorded fact. It was under perfect conditions, but it did happen. Sawchuk was a great goalie, but not the best of all time. His only dominant years were 1950-55, before the curved stick, before the slap shot, behind the greatest team of that era ( Detroit ). He was great, he was an important goalie in the history of the game, but he was not as good as Brodeur, not as good as Hall or Plante
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor Ok well I guess I'll just take you're word for it. Since at least you're agreeing that sawchuck is not the best of all time. And argued you're point intelligently unlike that other douchebag down there. The fact of whether Bobby Hull could shoot 118 mph or not is not important to the argument because every other goalie in the league was also facing Hull's shot, not only Sawchuck. Yes he was a great goaltender, but not the best.
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx sawchuck is the best goalie ever cus he had 103 shutouts, how can you get a 103 shutouts and play with no mask? the only way you can do that is by being the best, you go play ice hockey without a mask and lets see you try and focus on the task at hand while worrying about being hit with pucks
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@hallauthor brodeur isnt better then sawchuck, you cant even compare the two goalies cus they played in different era's, sawchuck played with out a mask and very shitty gear, id like to see you go and play in net with out a mask and the same gear that sawchuck used, do you think you can do what sawchuck did while worrying about being hit in the face with pucks? i highly doubt it
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 You can compare them because Sawchuk wore the best equipment in his day an Brodeur wore the best in his. That stuff all cancels out. Sawchuk wore a mask for the last 7 years of his career. Get it right. I played goal and wore the same pads as Sawchuk and a similar mask to his so I know exactly what it was like. Also, ALL the goalies of Sawchuk's pre-mask days wore the same equipment, all worried about getting hit in the face. Did you ever see Sawchuk play?
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor no i have never seen him play cus i am only 22, but as far as i know all the goalies back then were fucking warriors (that doesnt include you), brodeur would have never have gotten more then 103 shutouts if it wasnt for the gear that goalies wear today, cus if your a goalie and your not wearing a mask it can affect the way you play cus you would be worried about the puck hitting you in the head and killing you
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 Yes, all those goalies were warriors, and from your reasoning its obvious you're only 22 and never saw those brave goalies play.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 Also, it doesn't matter what I could do, the point is about who was the best and its about what Hall, Plante, and Brodeur did. And all 3 were better than Sawchuk by every legitimate measure of goaltending; GAA, S%, All Star berths, Vezinas, MVP awards, playoff MVP awards, and most importantly, consistency in their brilliance.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 A persons guts dont have nothing to do with his performance. The performance is what it is, and Brodeur have more shutouts than Sawchuk in less seasons played. That does'nt mean i'm saying he is better or not, couse such a statement cant be read out of such stats. What can be said though is that Sawchuk only had 3 first all-star berths in his career, explain that please.
theghr 1 year ago
@theghr it has nothing to do with guts it is a Physiologic thing, does a goalie preform well if he isnt focused? no he doesnt, so you can not compare the goalies of today to the ones in the past, the goalies in the past were fucking warriors and they were the best goalies of all time, sawchuck being on the top of that list cus he had more shutouts and then other goalies in those days
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 So you basicly mean that all those NHL-goalies was better than todays becouse all of them played without a mask? If anything their standard of play would on average be lower becouse not all talents had that courage.
theghr 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 And by the way, Sawchuk was well outperformed during his own time wich can be seen in that Glenn Hall was named to the first all-star team seven times and Sawchuk just three. It should also be noted that all of Sawchuks such accolades came before Hall began playing. These guys were born just three years apart, and Sawchuk obviuosly has become somewhat of a hockeys answer to Bob Marley: His legend outperformes his actual career.
theghr 1 year ago
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi That just isn't a valid argument. You're a homo just looking to start a fight with people. Suck a twat
tylerdurdonxx 1 year ago
@tylerdurdonxx so they had no way of telling how hard every player shot the puck. Next time you want to be an asshole at least have some facts to back up your comments. You call me a homo and a douchebag for stating an opinion yet who is the real douchebag? the one who did so with out throwing insults around or the one who threw an insult because of differing opinions? That would be you.
Sorry dude Sawchuk is the best goalie of all time and this is coming from a Devils fan. Later.

R.I.P Terry Sawchuk †
NickXcocacolaX 1 year ago
When you consider the equipment he had to play with and the fact that he did not wear a mask for most of his career, He IS the greatest goalie of all time. Yes they didn't shoot as hard, but a puck hitting flesh at 5mph still hurts! Yes he was an alcoholic, which makes his accomplishments even more amazing! Roy was/is a complete idiot......Sawchuk would NEVER tank a game so he could be traded....Brodeur has class.....but he plays for the right team....a team that plays an extreme trap...
ghno9 1 year ago
@ghno9 You're right about Roy but wrong about Sawchuk. Hall and Plante were better than Sawchuk. The legend of Sawchuk was exaggerated because of his early death. He was great, no question, but not even the best of his time. He was the best from 1950-55, but after that he fell behind both Hall and Plante in stats, troiphies, All Star appearances, etc.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor sawchuck had 103 shutouts, in an era when goalies didnt use mask masks and had very shitty gear, how many shutouts did hall and plante have?
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@Jsouthwell2006 Sawchuk had 103 shutouts in 20 years, Hall had 84 in 16 years and Plante had 82 in 18 years. Hall averaged more shutouts per game than Sawchuk and played behind worse teams. Also, your assumption that shutouts are the best measure of the best goalie is ridiculous. Its total picture; stats, awards, etc. And again; Sawchuk DID wear a mask longer than Hall did, since you seem to think that's quite important.

What was Sawchuk so unhappy about? What stress? Was it simple depression or did he suffer tragedies in his life?
sportshistorybuff 1 year ago
@sportshistorybuff It was a lot of things that built up over the whole of his short but brilliant life. His older brother whom he idolised, died at the age of 17. He broke his right arm at the age of twelve which left it a few inches shorter than his left, because he hid the injury from his parents from fear of punishment. The stress of having to play game after game, day in, day out. As far as I know, teams back then didn't really carry back-up goaltenders with them. He dealt with countless
theouterbanks 1 year ago
@sportshistorybuff countless injuries, three operations on his elbow, ruptured discs in his back, a broken foot, severed tendons in his hand, he had his nose broken many times, a collapsed lung and over four hundred stitches in his face. Also, due to his unusual goaltending 'stance' he developed a problem with his back which stopped him from sleeping properly. Detroit traded Sawchuk to Boston which crippled his self confidence. During his second season with Boston he developed glandular fever.
theouterbanks 1 year ago
@sportshistorybuff With all of this built on top of him he announced retirement in 1957 with the media calling him a 'quitter'.
I think with all of this huge misfortune in mind, coupled with the stress of being a goalie (I can tell you at first hand) added with his untreated depression for most of his life, this is why he was pretty unhappy. Crippled by depression, chronic stress and constant injury. Which in my view makes him the best goaltender the world has ever (and will ever) see.
theouterbanks 1 year ago
@theouterbanks You give an accurate description of Sawchuk's demons and physical issues, but those facts do not make him the best goalie. Sympathy is wonderful but it doesn't help historical evaluation. He was the best goalie in the game his first 5 years. That's statistical fact. But after that, his numbers and play slipped. His early death exaggerated the perception of his excellence. Fact is, statistically, both Hall and Plante were better than Sawchuk, so he wasn't even the best of that era.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor The fact that he fought depression and alcoholism just to play shows how brave and talented he was. Also his face was split up because of all the pucks he took and one of his arms was significantly shorter than the other.
Almost anyone would quit with all the horrible things in Terry's life. I don't think you understand what those records mean coupled with his miserable life. He is the greatest.
rebelslayer13 1 year ago
@rebelslayer13 I do understand his record, but ( unlike Glenn Hall...most games in a row, most All Star teams named to ) none of his "records" stand anymore, they've been broken. No one is questioning his talent or bravery. EVERY goalie of that era had his face split up from pucks. But facts are facts; Hall and Plante were better longer and more consistently. I saw them all play and have written about that era extensively. In history, Sawchuk is no better than 5th.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor Well obviously he's not the best, I would even go so far as to say Patrick Roy is better. But he has got to be the greatest. Especially with reaching that ungodly number of shutouts before his early death.
rebelslayer13 1 year ago
@rebelslayer13 He's not the best but he's the greatest? Doesn't make any sense. He died at 40 years old, so the relation between his age and his shutout total mean nothing. Break down when he got the shutouts; 56 of them in his 1st 5 years, before the slap shot, when he played behind the best team of the time. In his last 15 yrs, only made the All Star team twice, and not the First AS Team. For those first 5 years, in that era, he was the best. But his last 15 years, he was not special.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor Oh come on. Being a great person is different than having the best stats. It makes perfect sense.
You're not going to tell me Wayne Gretzky is greater than Bobby Orr just because of his numbers. When Darren McCarty lost his family and his job, then came back and won the Stanley Cup you probably thought Crosby deserved it.
rebelslayer13 1 year ago
@rebelslayer13 Here's a thought: try to be clear. Are you saying Sawchuk was a great person? He wasn't; he was a great goalie and a troubled person. He just wasn't the greatest goalie. One has nothing to do with the other. Gretzky and Orr played different positions, can't compare them.
Your McCarty/Crosby comment makes zero sense.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor I'm just saying that I think he was great, because he was brave. My friend's mom had to go through a very similar experience, with untreated alcoholism and depression, as well as the same family problems. I like Sawchuk because, unlike my friend's mom, he pulled through. She ended up dead by an overdose of pills and it breaks my heart to see one of the nicest guys I know wind up in the hospital on occasion for cutting his wrists because he can't afford a therapist.
rebelslayer13 1 year ago
@hallauthor And I didn't compare Orr to Gretzky in terms of how they played their positions, just on how hard they tried with what they had.
Why doesn't it make sense? McCarty coming back from rock bottom makes him a brave person, much like it does for Sawchuk. You can judge them by statistics or by what matters most.
I just didn't like how all you see in Terry Sawchuk was records compared to Glenn Hall, rather than his immense effort.
rebelslayer13 1 year ago
@rebelslayer13 Sorry about your friend but that has nothing to do with Sawchuk's bravery. ALL NHL goalies were brave in those days, all overcame various challenges. You started the discussion saying Sawchuk was the greatest; he wasn't. He had a lot of challenges, some he overcame, some he didnt. He did not get over his alcoholism which was sad and led to his death. I think athletes should be judged by their accomplishments AND their character, which is why Hall was the greatest. Study him and..
hallauthor 1 year ago
@rebelslayer13 you'll see what real character was. McCarty/Crosby argument is non-sense. Both were on Cup winners, both deserved it because of their abilities, character, and strength of their teams. No one "deserved" it more than the other.
As for your friend, every county in the US offers free psych services for those who can't afford help. Our postings mean nothing compared to the help he needs. He CAN find it, and I hope he does.
hallauthor 1 year ago
@hallauthor You're right. You win. Sawchuk's a pussy. End of discussion.

@theouterbanks and still got 103 shutouts besides all of that! that should shut the plante and hall homer up!
SlayerPayback 1 year ago
@SlayerPayback Sawchuk was deemed the best goalie in the league three times at the time, Hall was so seven times. Just count the first all-star team berths and then explain to me why Sawchuk was better when those who actually witnessed them play clearly had it the other way around.
theghr 1 year ago
Can we end the silly argument that Sawchuk didn't face curved sticks and 100 mph slap shots? In 1960 Bobby Hull had already developed the hardest and highest 100 mph slap shot ever seen - including now. The sticks were more curved in the early sixties than they are now because of regulations later enforced due to Mikita, Hull and others, who had spoon-shaped blades. The last half of Sawchuck's 20-year career saw the introduction of goalie masks because of the curved stick slap shots.
cranston97 1 year ago
@cranston97 True.
I wouldn't want to face Bobby Hull slapshots back then with the equipment and mask Sawchuk wore.

fox8950 1 year ago
You guys got to stop comparing Sawchuck to Brodeur. Who cares who's better. But one thing I will say is that Terry Sawchuck may not be better then Brodeur, (or better, your opinion) but Sawchuck was the toughest goalie to play the game, along with outstanding playing ability. I'd like to see Brodeur to be put in Sawchucks place.
MasterCrossbone 1 year ago
IMO Roy and Brodeur are nowhere near what Sawchuk was. Only goalie I'd say that was near or at his level was Tretiak. Brodeur has about 100 more games as well.
1stinsailing 1 year ago
@1stinsailing Ridiculous. Sawchuk was brilliant the first 5 years of his career. After that, his numbers dropped to average. Both Hall and Plante were better than Sawchuk for much longer, and Tretiak may be the most overrated goalie of all time. He never played in the NHL grind, and the Euro game he played in wasn't anywhere near the competition or grind of the NHL.
hallauthor 1 year ago
brodeur deals with a 82 game scedule. terry didnt. its pointless comparing them the game is so different. But i will say this, if you take terrys style and put him in het today he will save NOTHING. Put broduer in net back than he laugh, it would be to easy. Majority of shots back than where shots along the ice and he would save them all.
likespaintball 1 year ago
if we put brodeur in net back than he would save everything, every goalie in todays day and age would. Todays game is faster, trickier, faster and harder shots, bigger hits and bigger bodies, the game is better in every way. Therfore if you put terry sawchuk with his style of play in net today we would laugh, he may not even be in the nhl. Instead of a basic side to side deke that every goalie today will sleep on he would have to face dangles.
likespaintball 1 year ago
How many games did it take Brodeur take to break it? There are more clubs today, so I argue the talent pool is a little watered down...but...on the other hand the Europeans are here now. Skaters are bigger, faster, and more powerful but somehow play with a lot less finesse. Both are great...edge to Sawchuk IMO.
seismiccowboy 1 year ago
Brodeur has more shutouts than Sawchuk. But Sawchuk went through a lot of shit on and off the ice to achieve his record. Sawchuk remains the bravest man ever to play the game.
rebelslayer13 1 year ago 7
@rebelslayer13 I agree that Sawchuck was the bravest netminder ever to play goal. But I believe it took a few more years for Brodeur to reach 103 shutouts to tie the all time record. I may be wrong though. But nonetheless Sawchuck made his mark.

I only wish he were alive so I could have gotten the chance to meet the legend behind the name.

No offence to Orr, but alot of great defenceman played since he retired and he's still the best. Likewise with Sawchuk, alot of great goalies played since he passed on and his records are broken too. So he should be placed on the same level with Orr in that regard. In other words... both played in a different era, both are the best.

I touched Sawchuk's mask,(checked it out) and his equipment in 1980-81 when I had a student summer job at the Hockey hall of Fame in Toronto.
They had a figure of him with equipment/mask on display at the time.
I told this to some friends at the time and they were blown away.True story.

How light was it?
103Uke 1 year ago
No idea how light it was.
They had the mask and equipment on a display mannequin/dummy and I didn't take the mask off the head, but rather checked it out while on the head.
It didn't look like it offered much protection at all.
You could probably get killed wearing something like that today.

I agree. Excellent book by the way...

MrShutupbi 2 years ago 19
yeah, brodeur is the second best, to stop that much rubber back then is just unbelievable
colty1234567890 2 years ago
ya but the puck would always stay ice level their sticks werent even curved cmon if broduer played back then he would shut out every game
Slushyyy639 1 year ago
@MrShutupbi players at this time were half the size of those today ... brodeur could have done the same he is a worker
djiday 1 year ago
@MrShutupbi actually brodeur has the smallest pads in the league, not that im taking anything away from these old school guys, jumping infront of pucks with barely any padding on, its suicide

Marty brooder is better tied with shutouts 103
sidneycrosbyfan1000 2 years ago
are u dumb, brodeur is the most overated player in the nhl, i like to see him get 103 shutouts without a mask
1hugedik 2 years ago
have you ever shot a puck with a flat stick??? thats why they didn't wear masks back in the day cause you couldn't get the biscuit two feet off the ice. better equipment today, composite stick with a bent blade= faster shot. athletes today are beasts compared to that of other eras. the medicine, the training, equipment. I would of like to have seen sawchuck play in today's nhl! overated, certainly not.
tomekz83 2 years ago 2
u can still shoot high with a flat blade how else did plante get injured? like u said, goalies have smaller equipment back then an they got bruised up badly than today, im not sayin goalies cant get injured from the puck today cuz they still can but in the 50s all goalies had lots of guts to go in front of the shot, besides any goalie can play a 1000 games on a good team an get over 500 wins, its common sence
1hugedik 2 years ago 3
@tomekz83 do you think that sawchak got 400 stitches on face just lying on ice?
DIVERSEY 2 years ago 2
First of all you most certainly can get a high hard shot with a straight blade..you clearly have never played with a straight blade, all the way through minor hockey and two years of Uni. plenty of players in the 60's had curved blades. You are right on other accounts though. The athletic aspect of the game has changed as it has in all sports just as the equipment has...it pointless to compare athletes from 40+ years ago to todays athletes...you're right he was certainly not overrated.
ldhorricks 1 year ago
@1hugedik
Sawchuk will ALWAYS be better than Brodeur.
I don't think Brodeur could have gotten 103 without a mask either.
ActoneSUCKA 2 years ago 22
@ActoneSUCKA the goalies now a days are good, cus it isnt easy to play a full 60 mintues unless your in good shape and you still have to be good at cutting off the angles and being square with the shooter, the the goalies back then will always be better then the goalies now, cus they did it with out masks and with out high tech gear and stuff on
Jsouthwell2006 1 year ago
@ActoneSUCKA I have the up-most respect for Sawchuk and I do believe he was the best of all time, but these are two different generations we're talking about here, Brodeur may be wearing a mask and he may be wearing twice the equipment but he is also getting twice as many shots fired at him.
devilsfan964 1 year ago
@ActoneSUCKA terry had a mask

First of you cant spell...and second what are you talking about?...what does Crosby have to with Sawchuck or Brodeur?...Crosby Sucks?...what have you achieved in your life?..what are you good at?
ldhorricks 1 year ago
im sorry im not a retard like u who cares how someone spells in their comments.and crosby does suck so....... go home
isaacaces37 1 year ago
again what have you achieved in your life...
ldhorricks 1 year ago
I play double A hockey, Rep soccer and Triple AAA Basketball, so again lets see what youve done with your waste of a life
isaacaces37 1 year ago
Since you are so accomplished and you understand the hard work and dedication it takes to be competitive and successful...one would think you would have more class, understanding and brotherhood with someone who has worked very hard to get where he has and to have achieved what he has...you need to grow up...comments like "crosby sucks" makes you a very small immature person, with a narrow field of view...in truth its you who sucks by not seeing the big picture, you just don't know it yet.
ldhorricks 1 year ago
what is wrong with u? who gives a lecture reply to a comment. ur a retard if u send messages like that to other people. so stop sending me retard messages
isaacaces37 1 year ago
Wow - you are impressive. Here we are discussing the likes of Terry Sawchuck and you actually bring up the fact you play AA ? Grow up !!
Boxingbear 1 year ago
i didnt just bring it up i was talking to another idiot
isaacaces37 1 year ago
True he will always be a Wing but he was really one of the best that ever played the game. And he certainly had bigger balls than any other goalie to stand in the net. The players today with their huge pads simply don't measure up.
hanksr 2 years ago 2
Typical hockey media and Cdn hockey state of mind-show nothing but Sawchuk with the Leafs. Bleh. Terry was a Wing, through and through. Second best goaltender of all time, next to Dominik Hasek.

These Legends of Hockey videos are great, but there is definitely not enough about his career with Detroit here.
