These lessons are awesome. It is true that I want to fall asleep but I make myself pay attention, because every little comment you throw out is like building up the character values of the knowledge on how to do this. Thank you so much... I sketched out something I saw on my monitor just now and it actually looks good!

I think this lesson series is pretty good and I've definitly learned something, BUT...
It should be titled "How to copy a portrait". I mean, when I think of "drawing" a portrait, I think of someone sitting in a chair across the room from me while I draw them. But they might get kinda freaked if I start measuring them by poking pointed sticks at their face!
there's no such thing as perfect where art is concerned. You can call a complete mess "art". Some artists are never quite happy with their works, I know my stuff never seems quite finished. Does finished = perfect? Does a piece have to be finished to be a complete piece? I guess it depends on your own perspective and thoughts as an artist and as a viewer.
Don't get confused with the term "ART". Here we are talking about true to life portraits and it has to be perfect in the sense the artist shoudl catch the chracter of the sitter and the technique is as important.
How the hell can you differentiate between "ART" and "true to life"? Come on, Life is art, so anything "true to life" must be equally artistic! The guy doing these drawings isn't using using plumbing skills to do his work is he! No, because he's using his "ART" skills with his own unique artistic talent!
Why PM me this?>"Life is not art my ignorant friend, life is unique. Art is something you can create but you can't create life, can you? You probably believe in the big lie "creation"2
Take a look around you, my friend, at the world we have created. A world born of ideas, influence and innovation. The evolution of thought and preception of the world and the way we make it, it is living art. Don't presume me ignorant, pal! If you can't see life as "living art" then you don't know art.
Oh, and further more, I fail do see what religious views have to do with art! Unless of course you wish to discuss religious art? I know nothing of religous art, sorry.
I think he does everything so perfet because he's teaching how to measure. I don't think he does it all the time. When you draw a lot I don't think you need to measure everyting.
I never measure like this. I would do it by eye if I wasn't showing the people that want to see in detail. I'd also do it from something that is not reverse engineered. But this is an aid to help people break down what they are seeing. People who have never drawn before have completed all 4 pieces of the exercise and by they results you would never guess its their first portrait.
who woulda thought that thats what those blurry shaded shape things would be!!!

@Criptografo You're missing the point, aren't you? There is no "hair". It's all value shapes.

the one thing i hate about this guy is that he is so exact with everything. its good to get most of the face right but it doesn't have to be perfect.
