The alternate universes are the spinoffs from gundam series as a whole (not necessarily UC) in an attempt to approach new audiences, and whatnot, not to mention that the alternate ones aren't directed by the creator of the original gundam, Tomino (except Turn-A, I guess).

As for X-Gundam, though it uses the word "newtype" throughout the series, the word "newtype" in X-Gundam is not an equivalent, and actually different from "newtype" in UC universe.
