  • hey could the foam bottle koozies be put on the bottle and also put 1 lond wire tie around the bottles in the bucket to help keep the bottle from banging together or is the foam and wire tie bad in the water/oil?

  • hey on that pulse cap the one with the brown insulator, i have 10 of thoes rated at 15kvdc and 3.2UF on the output terminals on the top there is a N and -- sign which one is the positive??? please help me!

  • I made a cap using plexiglass as a dielectric, aluminum foil as plates, tape to hold the plates on, and wire for leads. It dose not seem to work at all. What could the problem possibly be?

  • I wana see a 50 pound cap explode ;P

  • What are you guys? I mean, how do I become one of you? :)

  • cool show

  • where can i buy your white mmc caps used in your capacitor bank??

    thank you for any answere

  • send me one of the big cap's and ill make the worlds bigest tesla coil!!!!

  • i love the geek group im almost 13 and i haven't seen any thing with the geek group on it but i do at least have a way to get online and want to know more of what the geek group does before i join and one i join i want to do something so what does the geek group do most of the time and how old do you have to be and in Minnesota is the a chapter the geek group please respond i will most likely be posting this on a few geek group vids but i dont want to spam it thank you

  • 117 of those big motherfuckers?

50of them in series, two banks.

    100 total.

    Call it Thuu....WTF!

  • @Serostern not 100.

    One *thousand* capacitors.

  • @Physicsduck I'm talking about the 300pound caps. Not the 20gram ones. =P

  • Are your capacitors available to purchase?

  • are capicitors acual bataries that load quick and discharge quick? he wants my brains but i live in the netherlands and i really like to see something like this there

  • @xan2xan3 Capacitors are actually CAPACITORS. Batteries use a chemical reaction, capacitors do not. Capacitors store a charge, and yes can be charged & discharged relatively quickly.

  • WOW You guys are AWESOME! I've been intrigued by tesla coils and now that I'm getting further into my electrical and electronics education I'm becoming more and more comfortable with the idea of making one. Who would have thought I would find a 45 minute video about one of the key components. Very informative, Thanks a ton.

  • ppl....HELP!!!...what pulse rated means...i'm from greece and i cant find a reference in my language so....can u make it simple for me?...and one more question...are mmcs electrolytic???...pls i need the answers 24 hours from now!!!and thats when i'm forced to give my essay...geek group...PLS!!!save my....u know....cheers.

  • This is nothing to do with Tesla coils, But are mot cap's pules rated. can any one tell me please,

    Thanks for any help.

  • gimme one of those 300lb cpas and I WILL make the tesla coil to use it... a few pole pigs may help as well...... I'm jsut sayin'

you can do that kinda stuff when you live down 10 miles of dirt road and all your nabors have hoves.

    He He He

  • You said people often buy pfc capacitors at a local surplus shop. How can I find such a surplus shop near my area? Is there any special name for these shops such as electronic surplus? Online all they show is military surplus in my area.

  • Start by looking for "Industrial surplus", then check for local scrap metals dealers. It all depends on what exists in your area.

  • very helpful vid. thanks

  • Count me in for 100 cap's.

  • How the hell did you break a mmc cap ?

I have ran my coil with two modded nsts at 426ma at 15kv and mine don't even get warm.

  • Our coils run at a little bit higher powers than yours ;) Running a dozen times a day, for months on end, at 14.4kV/10-15kVA finally killed it.

  • @Physicsduck Well i gusse I need to get going on my 8'' coil.

  • Good stuff. The bucket cap is a splendid idea. I think it's time I move away from coffee can caps. So would plastic water bottles work any better than glass bottles?

  • Nope, in fact they would fry in a few seconds most likely. The glass has a breakdown voltage of over 50kV or so.

  • I guess that means I need to start drinking bottled beer.

  • PET plastic bottles tend to break down faster than glass bottle caps. The plastic is basically the wrong formulation.

  • yey!

Always been wondering about the caps for my tesla coil.

  • Awesome cant wait to buy some caps from you guys!

    Thanks

  • great informative video, iv done something unique with a tesla coil,,,im making seperasting distilled water with a mmc bank that is run in parelell in the spark gap so the spark has to go through the water to get to the coil..... its unique cause with my other works with plasma i had to use so much elyte to get the plasma and the amps and temp go up in the water,,, with the TC it water stays luke warm, you should check it out.

  • i have an idea you guys could do, u could use Stickam and people would watch you. Stickam is a LIVE FREE Webcam site, thousands of people can watch a single person, because, there is no limit to how many people watch. 1 of the most popular guys is INFACT almost exactly like u! he usally gets around 300-600 people. if u joined u might get 600-800 people. when people start liking u, they will watch ur youtube vids and eventually, officiially making u Youtube Fame.

  • That's an excellent idea :) Thank you! We'll try it out.

  • I love watching TGG vids, but I feal kinda bad you guys do very informative vids and get almost no views. :(

  • @Jus7Lucky Well, we just started making serious videos so a lot of people don't know about us yet. But we certainly appreciate you sharing our videos anywhere online. We really want to get the word out about the Group and Avalon.

  • Exactly what is Project Avalon?

  • Avalon is our dream to build a college campus sized facility where people from all over the world can come and actually be personally involved in creating new projects. A place where people have the complete freedom to explore science and technology at their own pace, and in their own ways. It's like if you could go to a major university research lab and never worry about exams or tuition, just enjoy learning for learning's sake.

  • That is one of the best things I've ever heard (or, read)

  • error occurred uhhh ohhh
