  • Art Spieglemen also died... in 1991

  • @TheKhaoticKitty no it's wrong

  • @SoyMejorQueTu just as jackasses are really jackasses and should be slaughtered and turned into glue?

  • best book/comic ever red!

  • I read both books pretty good

  • I praise Maus as an amazing and tragic novel and that everybody should read it

Rest in peace Vladek and Anja Spiegelman

  • its my favorite comic/book =)

  • @ImmortalEye666 excuse me?

  • i wanna meet him!!!!

  • Mala drives me MESUGAH! -Vladek Spiegelman

  • I just finished reading it... I am still shocked...

  • Really? It's true that it's quite touching, but what amazed me the most is the cleverness of Vladek Spiegelman!

He did wanted to live, and I really admire that.

  • @muyaa That's the thing that struck me most about the book. The kids and I have tried to count the many exceptional things Vladek did, which kept him alive. All those things which kept him from being winnowed out with the rest. And imagine the physical stamina and force of will that such survival would require.

One hopes the Spiegelman genetics have been passed on...

  • in slovenia was released 3 years ago

  • Just started reading Maus II,the first was so good, now this one I cant wait.

  • SWINE ISNT BAD! God, the Nazis weren't swine for a reason. It was because the nazis (Cats) were feared (mainly) by the jews (Mice). I think you know about the relationship between cats and mice and how the cat dominates the mouse (unless its in a Tom And Jerry cartoon). Anyway, Artie wasn't being racist, it was just showing that a pig was a Pole just like a mouse was a jew and a cat was a nazi and a dog was a American etc. Just stop getting angry about it and read the book before you get angry.

  • A work of art. I like that it's not all about the Nazis and Jews, but about family and relationships. It makes me feel that I am reading about and actual person instead of just a writer. Also, it was very crafty of him to make people from different backgrounds different animals.

  • I want to read the book!!!! These mice do what regular humans can't > touch the heart!

  • it gooood book, I read it long time ago.

  • Do you have the book? In my country it is a recently released book.

  • I bought mine in 1987. (Denmark)

  • man Vladek (the survivor portrayed in the book) was a smart guy.

i wish i could have met him.

  • this book is sad and made me relise the kind of pain they whent through it wasnt just jews being chucked into camps it was a bit more emotional and complicated than i thought i wish this never happend but tha twould mean we would not have been born and possible a person more dangerous would have taken power. truely magnificent book = ]

  • Great book, both of them were.

  • if any one read watchmen they would like maus you would have it done in about 3 days

  • what song is this?

  • Pirates of the Carribean, Dead Mans Chest.

  • THE MOST IMPORTANT COMIC EVER WRITTEN

  • read it first please. this isn't a Comic. it's litrature.

  • I agree with Jeronimo. It's unfortunate that the words "comic" and "cartoon" conjure up connotations of laughter. Speigelman never intended his work to be "comic" in that sense, he simply chose a different and incredibly effective media for telling his father's Holocaust story. It's prime Holocaust literature - please read before you judge.

  • According to Generaplan Ost German nazists planned extermination millions Slavs including 85% Poles. That's way Germans made thousands massive executions killing Poles, burnt 800 Polish villages ( together with killing Polish peasants), Germans deported 2,8 millions Poles to force work in Germany, hundred thousands Poles closed in German camps, killed 200 000 Poles during Warsaw Uprising in 1944.

But Jewish schauvinist Art Spiegelman presented Poles as swines.. behaving just like Nazi swine.

  • It was his artistic choice to portray everyone in Maus according to Nazi stereotypes. Slavs were rabbits, French were frogs and both American and Russians were dogs.

  • He wasen`t persenting them as a swine in a bad way....he wasen`t trying to be raciest.......swines are also smart and heathy......calm down.....its like saying the Americans were dogs or bitchs....that it was raicestly choicen...but it wasen`t it was just a way of seeing.

  • Its only one story about that terrible century..

all non jews are shown as pigs.. germans as cats english as fish and americans as dogs..

It would be interesting is someone would do a graphic book about the poles in Poles in Siberia & Iran or about the Katyn massacre or all the other things that happened in russia under stalin.

You can't tell all the stories in one book

  • SANARIA7 you really haven't a clue have you? Read the book before you comment on it.

  • I totally forgot about this. I read this book when I was still a teenager. I only read it once, but it I was really impressed and I suddenly remember it now. I've never been that into comic books, but Art Spiegelman makes me want to change that.

  • He portrayed the Jews as mice and the Germans as cats because that is a predator/prey relationship. That and the Nazis described Jews as "vermin", which mice fit into. It's as much a story of Art's life as it is of his father, who survived the concentration camps. Maybe you should read it before you judge it.

  • i hate when stupid anime fanboys always say america or the west in general can't release good comic literature. they need to be handed a copy of maus which will hopefully shut their fucking mouths up.

but then again, the intellectual capacity of maus is probably too much for the anime/manga crowd to handle

  • fluffy, "intellectual capacity" concering comics and media is a pretty vauge descritption of a reader. What is the staple of this? I like manga and find the material very stimulating. I have also found that American Comics much of the time are an excuse for a soap box which I don't find as stimulating or entertaining.

  • this is my personal opinion but i really hate manga. i think it's filled to the core with gratuitous violence, unnecessary sex, and tons and tons of Japanese nationalism (just look at that anti-Korean one that was released a few years back). i agree, you will definitely find that in American comics (anything written by frank miller) but I think Maus trumps all that overrated and overhyped manga shit.

don't take it personally, i was just venting about stupid ass anime fans on youtube.

  • Yea, individual taste counts for allot. There are allot of titles with violence and sex and them. Don't forget there are "cute" titles as well. As for nationalism I am sure there are titles that represent this but my experience in reading there was actual questioning of the government such as Battle Royale in a fictional facist Japan.

No, its nothing personal. I just wanted you to know for some Manga is actually very thought provoking and stimulating. All reletaive right? Take care.

  • manga is about pedophilia, rape and sexual torture.

  • Rofl amen. =)

  • I love the books.

    They're amazing and horrid.

  • That was interesting. I really liked it. Excellent music, by the way. I love Pirates of the Caribbean! Amazing just how well that music fit the video.

  • "Obviously there is no meaning of history, that can be rescued having turned one's back to auschwitz, no truth of history, that can be defended having turned one's back to auschwitz and no god to be worshipped, having turned one's back to auschwitz." j.b. metz

    sorry for the unsatisfactory translation.

  • "Obviously there is no meaning in history, that can be rescued having turned one's back to auschwitz, no truth of history, that can be defended having turned one's back to auschwitz and no god to be worshipped with one's back to auschwitz." j b metz.

    sorry for the unsatisfactory translation.

Johann Baptist Metz (cath. Theologian, Germany)

  • Awesome books, one of the best I have ever read.

    Great short 5/5.

  • ich liebe Ziegen herauf mein Ass. großes Material, das es mich unbehaglich bildet.
