@musicollector1975 you're welcome. This is a song I hope (someday) goes viral. It touches on SO MANY areas of real and eternal importance in life, ... and even life AFTER this life.(!)
Well DONE! Thank you!!! Will share with all I know.
Back in the 1960's, a dear elderly saintly lady in our assembly challenged me to find all of the names of Christ in the Bible. She said there was one name for every day of the year! Well, so far, I have 363 actual Names of Christ in the Bible. The last 2 have eluded me so far! "Wonderful, Counselor, Almighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." What a Savior!
One outstanding song by a singer with one absolutely fantastic voice...although you may wish to read more into the song than perhaps was intended, no mater; just enjoy the great voice of Ames!
When I discovered "Who Will Answer", of course I ''knew'' who Ed Ames was, right? Decided to check-out his bio at wikipedia: Ukranian, not Indian in any way. Jewish parents. Severe poverty to the point of repeated hospitalizations for malnutrition. So, we have a story behind-the-story. He is Zionist in outlook. I am Christian, He is Jewish. "Who Will Answer?": God Will Answer And WE will be accountable to answer for ourselves to Christ. May God Bless Ed Ames. Thanks for the great post
@cvsk12 Well said, my friend. THE ANSWER Is Messiah Jesus-Yeshua, ... and HIS LORDSHIP over all the earth and every soul who sees and loves and receives Him. THAT, I am certain, is THE Answer.
@lenbenhear "If The Soul Is Darkened By A Fear It Cannot Name, If The Mind Is Baffled When The Rules Don't Fit The Games"... actually touched a healing chord within me. These lyrics reached what felt like an eternal puzzle within me about my life and times. Lenbenhear, do you refer to Him also as Yahweh-Rapha??? I had recently discovered He has many Names with many Meanings... :):):)
@mnobody21 God gave the Freedom of Free Choice to mankind. We were created for His companionship and in His justice why would He choose to create puppet companions. When I finally comprehended His justice in giving us Free Will, I was stunned. HE DOESN'T ALLOW THE EVIL. MEN CHOOSE THE EVIL.
The lines "IF THE SOUL IS DARKENED BY A FEAR IT CANNOT NAME, IF THE MIND IS BAFFLED WHEN THE RULES DON'T FIT THE GAMES..." Ed Ames as a child was so destitute was often hospitalized: malnutrition!!!
you're blocked. DON'T YOU EVER post your evil and wicked thoughts to me or on my channel again, got that: HYPOCRITE. and take YOUR evil and judgmental thoughts and cram them where they belong, hatemonger.
My parents had this as a 45 single when I was a kid. I appreciate the lyrics now that I'm an adult, but I'm not so sure this is a Christian song about God or Jesus. The last verse leaves it up to us to decide "Who Will Answer" when we ask these questions. I say nobody will answer, just like nobody ever has. There is no God. We're on our own and always have been and always will be. One thing is for sure. Ed Ames had an absolutely incredible voice. An overlooked and underrated singer.
Do you know that the term of praise: "Hallelujah" means? It means: "PRAISE BE UNTO YAHWEH, THE ONE TRUE GOD." The implication of USING that term is very clear.
Jesus WAS [AND IS] GOD's answer to the problem of sin and death and the miseries of this life and the evils thereof.
@lenbenhear, If Jesus is the answer to sin, death and misery, how do you explain all of the death, misery, poverty , disease, starvation, murder, rape, child sexual abuse, cruelty, war, greed, apathy, etc. I could go on. If there were actually a truly loving, caring, compassionate, all powerful God, why doesn't it do something? Either God exists, but is powerless, (which means it isn't a god), God doesn't care, or there is no God at all. Logic and common sense tells me the latter is true.
@TIMOTHYSAARINEN You think I haven't had THESE VERY SAME accusations AGAINST GOD brought up by other atheists? MANY times. and every time the explanation is given: THEY REJECT IT, ... and then go on to the NEXT "objection." HERE'S THE TRUTH: they don't WANT the truth. SINFUL, SELFISH FALLEN MANunKIND IS THE CAUSE of all this evil and injustice in the world. NOT GOD. GOD is Love. GOD has offered His Son. GOD HAS MADE A WAY. ... but most reject it. how sad and how tragic.
As I listened to this song, I was immediately reminded about what being a Christian is all about. When we get to feeling the despair that so many feel today, we should all remember that Jesus is the answer. I was reduced to tears after listening to this again. It is so cleansing to know that God still remembers who and where you are. Thank you, dear lenbenhear for putting this one up. And may God richly bless you and yours.
@Xtubelis I understand what you're saying. I cannot presume (& certainly not "force") 'my answer/s' on anyone. we have to truly & honestly seek & find these things for ourselves, ... IF we want to make the effort as a priority. I found my Answer. It's all over my youtube channel: beginning with "Whisper Jesus." - Jesus was NEVER about religions or about organizations marshalled in His name. He Is about Love & Truthe & Grace. it is 'given' to those who have spiritual ears to hear.
@Xtubelis don't ever let "religion" or hypocrites get in the Way of The One Who loves the soul of man & woman MOST. He Is far FAR more than 'the myth' that so many think He 'merely' is. ... He Is the essence of grace and sacrificial, Redeeming Love.
I was a top Rock & Roll Disc Jockey in the 60's & 70's and I played this song on a regular basis. This was one of the songs that eventually led me to become a Christian! And, yes it was truly inspiring to me...It does give THE answer, if you know the meaning of words. i.e. Who Will Answer...Hallelujah! The word Hallelujah means "Praise the Lord!" It means He Will Answer...God...Jesus Christ...He has all the answers. I believe Ed Ames understood the meaning of this song...Hallelujah!
@coolqtv Thanks for sharing your testimony on this ! Yes. It was one of the truly great songs & lyrics of the 20th Century. I believe it had an impact on the faith (and the desire for answers) of MANY people during that time period when it was a major hit all over the States. God bless you, ... and I am so glad to know that you know now that Jesus HAS ALL THE ANSWERS to these difficult trials and questions.(!) ... He's THE REAL DEAL.
No I wasn't aware of that. I do have an article about the lyrist . Certainly you see that the song, while not giving an answer as you have on your video, can be used as a chant by either side.I have tried to see the song as more inspiring, but there is always something missing - you know, the ANSWER. It is indeed a good song to USE to refute atheism in a lecture - and perhaps therin lies my struggle with the song as inspiring. But I will try to think of your comments while listeing in the future.
It's a powerful song and lyric if used in the right way and context. I wasn't aware that the author was (or Is?) an atheist. ... I guess that would be a matter for prayer, ... but we can only ASSUME what his spiritual condition is presently. thanks for your input.
While I am an Ed Ames fan and admire this song for the voice performance, I fail to see how it is inspiring. ? As a Christian, it really sounds more like a wrist slasher, and the writer of the song was indeed an atheist.
I don't agree at all. ... were you aware that Dr.Ravi Zacharias QUOTES the lyrics to this song in some of his seminars and lectures on refuting atheism? he does. It is a powerful message that asks the right questions, ... and (I have given, of course) THE RIGHT ANSWER at the end of the video.
I believe in God and this is an awesome song from the incredible, inspiring, majestic voice of Ed Ames. Thank you for this masterpiece!

Here's a special study that deals with many of the Holy Names and Titles of GOD:
clearlight.7t.net/4/
clearlight.7t.net "HOLY NAMES"
YahwA-YahOvah-Rapha [or "Raphiel"] is one of my favorites.
HE IS the Healer and the Deliverer. He is El GibOr: "Master of everything and every situation and need." !

I would not presume to speculate on Ed Ames' feelings about any particular song he sang.
Enjoy his artistry and the beauty of the music and lyrics.
Each one of us is different and we must not project our thinking on anybody else. The answer is: there is no single answer.
