  • WAY too much thermal paste.

  • damn way too much paste buddy. you'll never be able to clean that processor ever again

  • It should be a THIN layer, and apply it in an X in the center of the CPU and just put the heat sink on, the heat sink fastener will push the heat sink down and make the thermal paste to be more or less evenly applied on the cpu.

if you applied it like that it gets filled with air-bubbles when you put the heat sink on.

  • @rikardb

    Thanks

  • dude you have to much thermal paste on the cpu, to much thermal cpu INCREASE the heat on the CPU because it cant move the heat from the CPU to the heat sink.

  • you dont need to be so slow and carefull its not easy to damage computer parts

  • @RamiRiefert

I went slow (and pointed alot) to create an instructional video.

  • @darwincollins Okay, that makes perfect sense. I'm just planning to match up a 2nd of my existing 2ghz processor. Need to squeeze one more year out of server. One more question - did your kit come with a VRM (voltage regulator module)? Somebody told me it would. If so, is it a slot card and will it be obvious where it goes? This is my first processor add-on. Want to be sure to do it right. Your video helped give me confidence.

  • @Imnanc

I believe that VRM are built in to the dl360 as in I never had to deal with them. The video has everything that I did to plug in a 2nd cpu

  • @darwincollins I'm really interested in this as I'm planning to add a second processor to my DL360 G5. Why did you pull the existing processor and not just add a second one?

  • @Imnanc

I was upgrading from 2ghz to 3ghz. Both processors have to be the same. So, if you have a E5450 now, and want to add one, the 2nd one will have to be E5450. In the past, the 2 processors had to have the same version (4 letter code), but don't know if that it needed anymore. Oh, be sure to update your firmwares before installing.

  • quickly shut down and pull it off, is this true and how hard/ dangerous to the internal parts is this process???

  • @LewisTee08

please explain. Are you talking about how quick between shutting down the computer , and the power plug is pulled, or the top computer metal cover?

  • @darwincollins pull the fan off after unclipping and unscrewing

  • @darwincollins this guide said that it may bend your pins or break your processor if it hasnt melted properly when you pull it off

  • @LewisTee08

the paper guide? Pulling what off? The heat sink? The CPU chip is secured by a metal bracket (1:30), and the cpu chip itself does not have any pins. What needs to be properly melted?

  • @darwincollins am i looking at some guide that is really old or something???

i didnt look at the date

  • hey can you help me with a replacement cpu fan

I bought it from a site which builds computers for you and sends them to your door

so it was built up and i added my own fans, the computer has started to shut itself down though on certain games because of heat problems

i am going to purchase a new fan and some arctic freeze paste

but i was reading on the internet that the stock coolers have thermal pads on and they are a pain to remove, needing you to heat up the pad for 10minutes and then ...

  • wait so can you have more then one processor in any computer?

  • @XbsnuserX

No. In this case, this system/motherboard has 2 cpu sockets. The dl360 g5 had 2 versions of it's chipset. The first version supported only dual core processors. The 2nd version supports dual and quad core processors.

  • So, with two processors, is the memory shared, or do you have to split the installed memory between the two physical CPU's ?

(nice of you to take the time to film this process)

  • @zacherynuk

I did not have to do anything with the memory settings. I suspect that is sometype of split/share with G6 when you have 2 sockets used, but, I have only G5.

  • looks like a server

  • @vinnyz3 It is. Lol
