  • i didnt vote :(

  • The American government is 2 masks and 1 face, they have different policies but ultimately when it comes down to it they're both gonna support Big Business and shit on the little people.

Voting just encourages them into thinking that we're buying the shit they're selling.

  • its a free choice not to vote for evil

  • I love how he ended his statement. It's very true. He's honest and that's what I love about him so much. He's entertaining and he doesn't care much for bullshit.

  • It is very true that regardless of whether they come from the left or the right...it doesn't matter, all that people really want is for problems to be solved. We just want the issues addressed.

  • I agreed with almost everything he said, with two notable exceptions. 1. We are a constitutional republic NOT a democracy. 2. There are more than two candidates. This is not a game...its not red vs blue or Turd sandwich vs Giant douche. The awesome thing about voting is that you can pick who YOU want....not who you're offered. A choice between the lesser of two evils results in the same outcome either way...so don't caught up in this lame excuse for logic.

  • @1982patriot Sorry but DESPITE who you personally vote, the one who the majority votes is the one who will win. So in my opinion we are faced with an illusion of choice.

And when the majority and the second-majority vote very often the same two parties, the decision usually ends up being between those 2 or so parties.

  • @elchafa hear my words, brother, fellow American...just give it a thought...if you still disagree, such is your right. As long as the people are duped into believing that the only choice is the one that has already been made for them, (republican, democrat), "illusion of choice" will remain the only choice. Choice will only become reality when the people choose as they see fit, rather than as they are told to. Shattering the confines of group mentality takes personal courage. You choose.

  • @1982patriot I'm not an America, and all the things I say I say them because it is exactly like that in my country (Uruguay) as well (as is the case of almost every other country in the world). I distrust politicians, be them of the communist, republican, democrat, socialist, green, or any other party. Any person who truly believes he has a right to impose laws over others, pretending there need to be any laws at all, is not a person I want around me.

We are all one and the same.

  • @1982patriot I don't believe in countries, in governments, in laws, in politicians, or in anything that is not freedom. I dont care about arbitrary rules and borders made up out of thin air. My belief is philosophical in nature, not political. I appreciate your opinion, but disagree completely. I recommend you watch Alan Watts on consciousness here: /watch?v=UhRWYFJ2pyI <--- That's part 1 of 6, if you're interested watch them all.

  • @elchafa I agree with you. Politics is what leads us to war, at least in my eyes that is.

  • 3:55 haha i found an edit!

  • Funny that he mentions all the things that I find strange about most american politicians. He really said some things which are true and should be changed.

  • 134 people don't vote.

  • l love the way he said "controversy" :)

  • Man... HE'S GOOD!

  • To the "if you don't vote, don't complain" argument he gives, I give you George Carlin's answer: "If you vote and elect dishonest, incompetent people who get into office & screw everything up, you are responsible for what they've done. You caused the problem, you voted them in, you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who didn't vote, am in no way responsible for what these people have done & have all the right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with."

  • @elchafa cop out.

  • @elchafa

I have to disagree with that, with the second part. If you didn't even give enough shit to vote for to make YOUR country, YOUR life, YOUR society better, don't fucking complain.

  • @Nongamblerpokerfan I understand your reasoning, but the one thing you and I seem to disagree upon is that voting will actually helps make society better.

  • @elchafa

Oh, I see. I'm actually quite interested in your reasoning now. Do explain.

  • @elchafa sorry, but you lack alot of logic here. democracy only works when people vote. this is what millions of people fought and died for in the past; so that YOU have the possibility to change current policies. of course you can do mistakes with that responsibility, but to say - because of that - you better dont vote at all, and instead blame politicians AND their voters, is more than irresponsible and even cowardly. who do you help with that attitude? what an annoyingly lame excuse.

  • @staxstix You missed the point of my comment. Let me rephrase it: When people tell those who don't vote that they don't have a right to complain, I would like to point out that actually they are the ones responsible for putting me, and themselves through the act of voting for "dishonest, incompetent people", in a negative situation, and therefore I have the moral right to complain about the mess that they (the people who voted them) created, put me in and for which I am in no way responsible.

  • @elchafa so, you think that running away from responsibility will help your country?

  • @staxstix Just as much as voting will.

  • @staxstix Plus, it's you who considers voting a responsibility, not me.

  • @staxstix And I don't really think that democracy works at all. At least not nowadays, I think it's outdated. Sorry, but I need to disagree on that, since that is particularly why I don't vote (or more accurately, put in a random piece of paper -which invalidates my vote- in the envelope when voting, since in my country it is not a right but an obligation to vote).

  • craig ferguson for president of the World

  • it took me two minutes to realize a 'peg' is a pig haha

  • That pretty much sums up US politics: "blah blah blah blah blah"

  • I pray people don't watch this guy to laugh.

  • @LeGooGoo That's because Your country was built on immigrants

  • The greatest thing about Scotland - is the Scots

  • It's America's fucked up electoral system that encourages low voter turnout. If you live in a state that you know is gonna go to one party, why bother voting for the other party? Like democrats in Texas. The votes that aren't for the biggest party in each state are spoiled. Do they really expect people to vote just for statistical purposes. Reform the electoral system if you want to reach Europe's rates of 70-90 % turnout instead of just complaining.

  • @thestranger4812 Or hold election day on the 1st Saturday in November instead of the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in November. I'm sure Catholics would have no problem voting on All Saints Day in these modern times...

  • If there are hundreds more like you in Glasgow, Scotland, where in Glasgow might we find them? Do they have teeth? I hope not....lol (-:~ It is a great day for America. Better, better and betterier. So bleepin' FUNNY!! FAB!!

  • If there are hundreds more like you in Glasgow, Scotland, where in Glasgow might we find them? Do they have teeth? I hope not....lol (-:~ It is a great day for America. Better, better and betterier. So bleepin' FUNNY!!

  • Republicans = Democrats

Participating in a broken system does not fix the problem.

  • @enjoypolydor does not participating fix it?

  • @Paaablo88 Good question. It does not. I'm not saying if we don't vote it will magically fix the system, it's going to take much more than that. The only way we can attempt to fix the problem we are in is if over 70% of this country realizes whats really going on. Then we can can start taking the power away from who's really in control. Sadly I don't see that happening anytime soon. Even if a smart uncorrupted politician got in it wouldn't help, a democracy only works if the people stay informed

  • 130 people are morons

  • I'd never even concider migrating to America, seriously. But maybe Scotland is a crappy place? I've never been their either, so maybe it is.. : )

  • This is the perfect response to George Carlin.

  • @dfbhcf

I agree. I also share Carlin's view on Religion, but he's wrong on Politics.

  • @iMPERiOUS The decision is already made for you if you make it so. The only way to change that is to get to the caucuses early on and vote for people who actually understand the issues. The big wallets outlast everyone else because most voters avoid the caucuses. If we show support for other candidates early on instead (on both sides of the aisle) then we can change the process. We complain about the two evils, but many voters wait until election day and never prevent the undesirable outcome.

  • @metemQ What?

  • @cdmnumber3fan

I didn't realize what I said was so controversial. Basically my point was, Craig Ferguson just ranted for 9 minutes about a system he doesn't try understand (very amusingly, sure) and I wish I had that time back.

  • @metemQ What?

  • Pause at 0:35 (happy accident for me to find this out)

  • Wow.

  • He brings up great points. As far as the voting thing goes sometimes it is better if some people don't vote. Some people just can't make an informed decision. Others don't vote because there aren't any good candidates. Craig having to take the citizenship test is more informed than a lot of natural born Americans.

  • Best late nighter EVER!!!

  • Ferguson for pres

  • phffft

  • 1. I think it's sad that it takes an ex-European to teach Ermericans this stuff.

    2. While I agree with Craig on principle, the trouble with voting in the US is that it's essentially pointless as long as there isn't a viable THIRD box to tick. All presidencies of modern times in the US have been bought and paid for by big business. As it is, elections only give Ermericans the illusion of choice, because each candidate is pwned by the major lobbies through "campaign contributions".

  • "Do I have a zipper around here or something?"

    - Well, from the very instant you think you "have" to vote and ask something like "What are you going to do for this country pal?" (once you've taken my cash through forced taxes), well, yes, officially, you present yourself like someone with the zipper on the head, actually what you're really saying is, sure, here's the zipper, open up and just help yourself.

("Voting is a suggestion box for slaves" - Stefan Molyneux)

  • do i have a zipper up here ??? lolll

  • @thaOFFICIALJAPAN Your ignorance says a lot about you. I think it would be best if you keep your mouth shut, that way you don't embarrass yourself anymore.

  • @thaOFFICIALJAPAN you change your name every month? from what? dumbass to retard to dipshit to downsyndrome? racist? you're so confused.

no, votes don't matter that much because the choice is already made for you. but you still have the choice between the lesser of two evils.

  • @thaOFFICIALJAPAN Calling people "whitey" makes you just as racist as you claim "the whiteys" to be. Congratulations, hypocrite.

  • @thaOFFICIALJAPAN what does making fun of someone who changed his name 3 times have to do with racism? your statement here is racist, certainly not his. still baffles me what people seem to think what racism is. you made no sense what so ever.

  • @thaOFFICIALJAPAN Wow, you need to stop being so angry. Nothing that he said at all was racist. And he's been sober for almost twenty years. Talk about accomplishment. He stopped being angry about his problem and got some help. Following his example would do well for you.

  • Backwards ...if you DO vote your a moron . for thinking that the votes are stitched anyway.... come the fxck on people , i didn`t know there wus anyone dumb enough Left around here , to still think the votes count :/ blahh *

  • I'd vote if they weren't all corporate stooges

  • I love this bloke - he is our countries loss.

  • YESSS!!!

  • dude if i c 1 more craig for prez ima do somehting.. itl be baus

  • Craig should totally run for president.

  • Craig Ferguson for President!!!!!

  • I'll start voting as soon as we delegate a change in the the time and day we vote. Can't vote if i'm doing busy being a good citizen.

  • @rvbmrdonut That is not an accessed to not vote. I go to work at 5 am for my ft job and get back home around midnight almost everyday from either my pt job or college. Have you hear of absentee ballots, that is the only way I vote. In my state the ballot is mailed to you about 3 weeks before the election and you can mail it back in no later then election day.

  • @rvbmrdonut By law, employers have to grant you time to go vote if your work time keeps you from doing it on your own time. Either that or just vote absentee.

  • I think Craig can´t run for president cause he wasn´t born in america, he could run for gobernor though, still... I couldn´t vote for him cause Im not gringo... still love him.

  • @elcuartodechava Do you have to be born on American soil?

  • @lilacandironpen yes you have.

  • I have a man crush on Craig. I'm not ashamed to admit it. He's awesome!

  • Why dont you run for president Craig?

  • Craig for president !!!!!!

  • CONAN AND CRAIG ARE BETTER THAN ANY LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW EVER

  • Does NOT mean you have to vote for one of the Corporate Selected candidates in the "top two parties" .... You can write in MY DEAD CAT if you want to. That will also express your opinion.... that you do NOT like being presented with two "sponsored candidates" ...

  • since 2007 i've said he is the best...he is funny, doesn't preach, incredibly grounded, makes every single guest fun, and in general he doesn't force his schtick down your throat (no pun intended)

  • @iMPERiOUS Why is it my duty to legitimize a corrupt and evil system that presents us with no real alternatives? Oh, you can chose between McCain and Obama. What a wonderful option that is! A fascist or a socialist!

Voting: The suggestion box for slaves!

  • @Hypatia1951 Neither of them are at that far extremes, in terms of the grand scale of politics they aren't even that far apart ideologically, it doesn't always have to be polarized. If you're happy with neither then do something about it, challenge the two party system. I don't know if I'd say it was your duty, but if you're not happy with either and aren't prepared to do anything about it then I don't think you have the right to comment. But then what would we do on YouTube....

  • @Hypatia1951 your a dumbass

  • I love Craig. He puts logic, humor and all into every subject he goes on to. I absolutely think he rises above Jay, Conan, Letterman and Fallon... Don't get me wrong, they're nice people too, but Craig is still the best comedian and person in general. 8D I've been watching his show for 6 months and I've only missed one show but watch more on here when his show's over... he makes my night, my day and my week. :3

  • @ILoveMeecies Plus he's got a SEXY accent! ;)

  • @121fobabcd Ikr o: I'm half Scottish... I so wish I had the damn accent. I just sound weird. 8D... I love Geoff too. I wonder who does his voice. BALLS!!

  • "just vote"

why the fuck do you care ?

    ask that

  • i think the problem is that shows like jon stewart and colbert entertain people....they take veiwers away from news stations because news can be boring some times....and these news stations are a business they need these veiwers to sell ad space and what not....so they make their news more entertaining....scaring people with H1N1, paris hilton goes to jail, and political rivalry....all because they have to compete with every other show on TV that is 100x more entertaining

  • Everyone should vote? Really? I would say if you make zero effort to inform yourself on issues, policies and choices; if you never try to cross-check information among different sources or even first-hand sources; then no you should NOT go vote. It's like saying "Everyone should drive a car. No matter if you have zero experience or ability....just get in and give it a whirl..."

  • @BlackLabelSlushie But he also said go out and make the effort to inform yourself, quite clearly.

  • Voting is the suggestion box for slaves.

  • @shadowgeyser I'm sorry, but frankly, you're an idiot. Regardless of what you think of either candidate or both candidates, if you don't get your ass out there and vote, you are doing a disservice to your country and you don't deserve the right TO vote.

  • Yes, easily! But Letterman and Leno are getting old, so maybe we can't blame them for starting to get boring now.. : )

  • In your pants.

  • This guy is more patriotic than natural born American citizens.

  • @riesterejb13

sad fact, but a totally true statement.........

  • @riesterejb13 it because of the FREEDOM that he has not like where he is from (i have no idea were he is from)

  • @WickedChatto619 Glasgo, Scotland, UK

  • The only man I´d like to replace Letterman somedy. I hope Dave never stops, but when he´ll do - Craig HAS TO take the place for his show.

  • What an awesome monologue. Craig Ferguson is so ridiculous! He made one mistake though. There are more than just 2 candidates. If you do not like those two choices show it by voting independent. Push the percentages and show those two rich parties that more and more Americans are tired of their games are not buying into it, anymore. We want them to represent the people; not their money.

  • IF HE WERE DEAD HE WOULD BE FURIOUS!

  • This is why he is the best. Can you imagine Jimmy Kimmel saying something like this?

  • I do this speech for Speech and Debate as a Dec.

    oh yeah.

  • This needs to be a PSA, and played copiously on TV come election time. Because if Craig Ferguson is telling me to vote, by God, I WILL VOTE!

  • Craig is hilarious, and straight up amazing at talking to the crowd. The guy is an attention magnet. I really hope the rumor of him replacing Letterman is true, because he really fucking deserves it and hell, the people deserve Ferguson too. It's guaranteed entertainment.

  • In 6 months I become a legal adult. After 3 years of studying economics and civics and world studies, I have never been so motivated to become involved in my government before Craig.

Thanks for telling it to me straight man.

  • I truly respect Craig's work ethic as a comedian... he manages to find a line between political sobriety and slap-stick comedy, the kind of humor that you enjoy with your friends and family, opposed to the script-like monologues of many American late-night hosts. He's a genuine, down-to-earth, entertainer that, speaking as a fan who's been watching since the show's inception, constantly aims to literally invade our homes with his antics... yes, you too ladies.

  • Yeah you're so stupid if you don't vote. Democrats and republicans are basically the same, they both promise you shit that never will happen and make no progress. Vote for either person they both come from the same place.

  • @purplenurps So whine about it and do nothing to change it. Kay.

  • @specialkrj Vote and nothing will change. Kay

  • CRAIG FERGUSON FOR PREZ!

  • @Rayzorbladez it's too bad he can't get elected! he would be perfect for the job!

  • @shadowgeyser And you sound like you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I'm not racist, I disagree with the Tea Party on every issue and I want nothing more than for Sarah Palin to go back to Alaska and leave the rest of us alone -- maybe she can find another job to quit.

  • Craig Ferguson is F'n awesome.

  • IF YOU DON'T VOTE BETWEEN A DOUCHE AND A TURD YOUR A MORON! A TURD IS CLEARLY SUPERIOR!

  • Great discussion. Most people's intention to vote is quite noble. The system is beyond broken, however, it won't allow even the noble candidates such as Obama, Ms Giffords, etc to truly make a difference.Campaign promises turn into rhetorics. Also, elections is a huge burden of human resources. In capitalism, free will is admirable but ultimately it leads to greed, which is the problem.Democracy is bit of a false flag.People need to be reined in to a certain degree.Ms Giffords tragedy says a lot.

  • The rabid ones, foaming at the mouth, are more inclined to vote. Like a rabid animal is more inclined to bite.

The laid back ones need to understand that they can not allow the rabid ones to surround them.

  • Did he make fun of how tanned he is here? im sure he would of at the start of the episode.

  • Where is the logic in craigs statemnt lke carlin said you hlped get these idiots in office s you have no right to cmplain I on the other hand who did nt vote who did not even leave the house have every right to complain.

  • @Liddlelegrande are you serious? You don't realize that if you voted against them and every moron like you voted against them then you wouldn't have to complain? Stop complaining that your pizza arrived to your door with no pepperoni on it when you didn't even tell the delivery guy what topping you wanted.

  • Communists exist! They steal your politicians, but only the left-wing ones, whats with that?

  • Craig Ferguson for PRESIDENT!!!!!

  • @out2of2this2world Yeah, he's pretty great.

  • @out2of2this2world Craig Ferguson for president? I hope you're saying that ironically....

  • Craig is hands down funnier than David Letterman or Jay Leno.

  • @darylmisty combined

  • @darylmisty

Letterman sucks. Leno is funnier, but yeah, Craig rules. Break out the tweets and emails, cheeky monkey.

  • @darylmisty I like Jay Leno, but when he was off the tonight show, I started watching Craig over Conan.

  • @darylmisty That's not much of an achievement.

  • America just got a well needed spanking from Craig

  • lolzi so obvious who he supports...

  • Completely agree. I'm a Senior in highschool and I'm taking government this year and there's this girl in my class who said, and I quote,

"I am going to be a physical therapist. When will I ever need to know about conservatives and republicans?"

God. I about punched this chick in the face. I hate stupid people. GO CRAIG. I wish every person in the world was forced to listen to this speech.

  • in theory I believe voting is a duty but reality is that our votes don't truly mean as much as we would like them to be.

  • Dude..that is awesome....

  • I love that man!

  • @Hypatia1951 If everyone believed that, this country would fall apart. Without a single vote, no one would ever be elected. Then the government would practically be forced into communism, as the people had given up any voice they had. Better a small voice than no voice at all.

  • @rebekahblue8 That might be true---but it still doesn't make it any better a decision from an economic point of view: And a person is certainly not an idiot for choosing not to vote. He is just placing a different value on his time than is the person choosing to vote.

Once the numbers got that low, the equation would change. If only 100 people voted, then I would vote. When it is 50,000,000, I have better things to do with my time.

  • @Hypatia1951 Your entire post was covered and refuted by one word Craig mentioned: "duty".

  • @Hypatia1951 maybe because everyone that agrees with you is sitting at home on their asses saying their vote doesn't count anyway so why leave....well..if you all did then your vote would mean something.

  • I agree for the most part, but I don't want uninformed people to vote...

  • its hard to vote when there is no one that u can trust on...

its just picking the least of a problem

  • @mrMakoja All elections end up standing between a douche and a turd ;)

  • hey, guys check out my channel, im sure u will like it ;)

good vid btw! keep it up :)

  • If your not going to vote, don't complain about the things people voted in. People went and died so you could vote. My mom said she'll ground me if I don't vote my first time

  • wow, a man who dropped out of high school at 16 and didn't go to college knows about this and is smart enough to think about it and people like the media that he's talking about are the respected ones

shows how great the education system is

  • "you can put a pig anywhere you like. it's america"

  • This video is an old one, but he is SO right.

  • You are not an American, you earned a paper to be one.. I am a Canadian, I have a work visa. If they brought back the draft you wouldn't proudly say your an American. You are a Scottsman whom became rich being an American..I love America

  • @jojolynne Lol. You apparently don't understand the foundation of our governmental system. He is an American. He's a naturalized citizen. Meaning, he has all the rights of any natural born citizen (besides running for President). I'm not even sure what your point is anyways.

  • Why would anyone live in a democratic republic and not vote?

  • You inadvertently commit murder when you vote. All the politicians send your brothers and sisters to die for their own agenda. Always have, always will. It is something I don't want on my conscious. Don't blame me. I didn't vote.

  • @honestabe666 I think i will blame you. Make your damn voice heard and maybe we'll be out of this mess sooner. Apathy solves nothing. It is the easy choice because it is no choice. Generalizations aren't true and you bloody well know it, you just dont want to take the time to learn about the issues. How do you expect to create change by doing nothing? Nobody is going to do it for you. Learn. Vote.

  • RIP Walter Cronkite

  • I know he is a recovering alcoholic, but I would love to sit down and have a few Guinness with this man. Craig Ferguson is A great American. Enough said.

  • that was very deep at least at the end

  • im glad i voted for mccain

  • @7rueg4m3r Why= It didn't make any difference.

  • @7rueg4m3r Congratulations. You voted to suppress homosexuals. Don't you feel great?

  • @itsbrad212 yeah, so did u vote for obama? thanks... now look whats happened, obama said there would be change... i dont see anything improving

  • @7rueg4m3r It's called voting for "the better of two evils". Look where the Republican party had gotten us from 2001 to 2009. You have the nerve to blame the man that decided to step in and attempt to sort things out? Besides, I'd much rather live in an country where all people, no matter what color, gender, or sexuality, are treated equally than a financially stable one.

  • @linknowmedia if you vote you are better than the people who don't if you have money to pay taxes then it is also your duty to provide for those who can't since they have no money and this has recently become more widespread due to jobs being shipped out of the U.S.

  • @linknowmedia What if the reason that welfare mom can't pay taxes is because one of her kids has an illness that all her available funds go to? Since you guys don't have healthcare...

Or she got laid of because of outsourcing?

    Or her husband left her?

Not every person on welfare is some slob who doesn't want to work.

  • This guy wouldn't have a career in the UK never mind his own show.

  • maybe craig should run for president

  • It is not my duty to vote. And time i checked, the wide open range two politically connected ivy league aristocrats does not constitute "free choice" of candidates.

  • @SeaSickElf89 Disclaimer: I'm not having a go, I'm just curious how voting in the US works.

Are you not able to vote for minor or even macro parties?

  • @DottyDotDitto Each state has their own requirements for getting on the ballot. In Oklahoma, where I live, it's very difficult to do so if you're not one of the two established parties (Democratic or Republican). In other states, one may see as many as fifteen parties for a major position. But since we, almost without exception, have a plurality voting system, the one with the most votes (read: the most marketing and pandering) wins.

  • @OUdarling

Ah, so it's a plurality voting system rather than a preferential one.

I think I get it now, Thank you. :)

  • @SeaSickElf89 if you don't like the candidate then find and promote your own so you will feel confident in voting for him: voting is not a duty; it is a privilege and we in this country think that because it is a privilege that we can shrug it off just like having sex and forgetting about it in a few days
