@boldsasha - for an LRAD to be effective - you MUST be with in 100 meters or less for an extended period of time. As the whalers rarely get that close, you'd be wasting your time. Besides, I doubt the turd-burglar SS are smart enough to use one.

@fraseryt crank up the level enough and even the best hearing protection won't help you. As well the LRAD is designed to have a wavelength that will resonate your skull and jaw slightly. At 155 dB SPL (2.5 kHz) this weapon creates sound pressure levels (SPL) "sufficient to produce permanent ear damage and temporarily disrupt vision" (source:wikipedia)
Anything you do to distract or disrupt a pilot, especially of a helicopter can have disastrous consequences.
