I think there is a mischaracterization here of the relationship between the British and the Jews in Palestine. Several sects of Zionists were opposed to British colonial control in the region and even fought against them. I don't think it has anything to do with guilt over the Holocaust. The Jews have been persecuted and mistreated for centuries. I think a major issue is that the German archives are not being opened up for verification of the numbr of Jews killed, and that's making people wonder, especially since some say the number (6 million) can't be verified.
