Still (after a bout 35 years when I heard it for the 1st time) "moving" "touching" "emotional" and above all a beautiful piece of music... , & this version of Pepe Romero, with the explenation...... excelent...
This piece of music has remained my all time favourite since the very first time I heard it as a teenager some 20 years ago. The inspiration, the story behind it only adds to the emotional experience, how can anyone not be moved by such a splendid piece, I feel great sorry for those unable to experience emotions on this level, and there are many of them. It's a gift to recognise, explore & then communicate emotions, told beatifully here by Pepe. A wonderful video, thankyou.

This is such a sad story to why this beautiful and moving piece of music was composed. I was touched also by the scenes of the couple in the later years of their life who so obviously were still feeling the pain of the loss of their child so many years ago.
I'm so glad I found this, and will appreciate the concerto all the more for knowing the story behind it. Thank you so much for posting.

My wife and I loved this Concerto for many years and I never knew what it was all about. We have two beautiful sons, but along the way we lost five babies.
I thought of this piece when my mum passed away, i thought i would never be able to listen to it for the painful memories but now that i do, it feels loving and warm.
I allvays thaugt that this was his comment to the civil war in Spain and the things that was going on in Europe at the time...but now i know the real story..and it made my eyes fill up to..
You can truly feel the sadness of the composer in this song. I think it strikes a deep chord in everyone that hears it. The baby is deceased but his memory & spirit will live forever in this magnificent work of art.
In my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find such a well composed, sad yet beautiful and touching song.
I agree with wishbone. You can feel all of the emotions of Rodriguez at the time. The sadness of losing his child, the elation of his wife surviving, his anger at God and the ensuing peace that is given to him. This piece of music is sheer brilliance.
The interpretation of Pepe on this masterpiece is unequaled, he makes the story to come alive, and is not playing music but transferring pure emotion.
I can not always express what I feel listening to this piece, but it speaks to me deeply.
Wonderful Video!!....This song has always been a favourite of mine.....although I've always pictured images of the middle east (when listening with eyes closed!!)
Now having seen the story and meaning of the piece, I will appreciate it even more....but I'll still think of Egypt now and then!!
This is an excellent genre of video, a video that presents the history behind the music. Great! It makes us feel the music better, in a deeper level. Simply great, fantastic!
Rodrigo was blind. But I HEAR thousands of Images and landscapes - pure and original and abstract and more feelable than any visual image- through his music. It drops me in doubt: who is the real BLIND??
You can truly feel the sadness of the composer in this song. I think it strikes a deep chord in everyone that hears it. The baby is deceased but his memory & spirit will live forever in this magnificent work of art.
inteting coment, what baby u mean ?, yes, this piece is very very melancolica exisntaical and out of depreison senstityvtuy with i share and feel like just few do,
I've seen this piece performed many, many times. There is a certain connection that Pepe Romero has with this music. Now I know what it is. I've never known the story behind the music and it's absolutely beautiful in the telling and of course the listening. Thank you for posting this. And to think that being blind did not stop Rodrigo from composing this. Amazing.
@copstolemywife nah your confused no other versions have ralking on youtube, i feel thre complete oppposite i've always wonered exacrly what inspired this and wirh that analysis the piece is less enigmatic so...furl.
Wow.. I always loved this 2nd movement, never get tired listening to this beautiful piece. However, now that I understand the story of this work, expressing human suffering, asking GOD for help, and achieving peace... what Beautiful Poetry!!
I just want to say the Maestro Rodrigo will keep a special place in the guitar clasical music for this piece. he connect the guiatar, with human drama pain, hope and his sou tool with God.
seeing rodrigo himself as an old man with his wife brought tears to my eyes.. such disappointment and sadness over the loss of their child is a truly humbling thing.. the most sublime sadness and longing ever put to music.. rest in peace, maestro!
One of the most stirring pieces of music. I think we all have an unfulfilled longing that this music ministers to. It is great to learn the story and to see Rodrigo himself. Out of pain and disappointment germinates the greatest beauty.
This music is best listened to with a glass of wine and all the lights off.
This is The best version ever done!! So moving and lovely. Perfect playing , super conductor and guitar player. This is how this peice should sound in my opinion. Perfect tempo all over the piece. Very Very Beautiful. Neville marriner is one of the 20 th centurys best conductors, and sct martin in the fields was always a top orchestra. LOVELY PERFORMANCE.
buy it from amazon, they have pepe romero, paco de lucia, and julio bream. I wish someone could tell me who is better, pepe romero or bream? on this part.(adaigo). Its killing me, i already bought bream's version, and everyone has different opinion. i am not sure if i made right choice.
I just bought pepe 's cd and the recording doesn't do it justice. It is good but the youtube video is better. I haven't heard bream but I believe that off all the versions that I heard, I think that Pepe plays the piece the closet to the intent of the Rodrigo.
I've been listening to this adagio for 17 years and I've heard dozens of interpretations of it, and for my money Pepe Romero is the only one who can play it properly. The rest just sound too mild, or too wet, or don't count the rests properly, and simply don't understand what this piece is.
Pepe is the only one who doesn't make a howl of anguish sound like a tango, if you get me.
about 25 years ago our music teacher was totally obsessed with this piece, ive loved it ever since,i totally agree with your comment,i too have listened to numerous versions of this piece of music and i have to agree with you my friend, pepe romero is by far the best ive ever heard, peace brother
At this level you can't say who is better, it's up to you to make the decision. It's like arguing what is the best wine, once you get to really good wine, it's up to personal choice. I would go even further, I get tired of people using the word "better" or "worse" to compare musicians, musicians have different qualities which might or might not appeal to you, what's the point in letting someone else make up your mind?
Okay okay I give up! I have heard dozens of versions of this song. Please, just tell me where I can buy or download this complete version ASAP! Thank you in advance.
You know that Rodrigo the composer of Concierto de Aranjuez usually composed for piano, and this was his first work for guitar, now the most famous and most played and admired piece for classical guitar.
I did not know the story behind this already staggering piece of music.
No wonder I'm bawling my eyes out now.

It is my friend, one of the great artistic achievements of MAN. I couldn't agree more.
And I believe that MAN is created in the image of God. Not a magic man in the sky, but a God that loves you and has grace on you.
The whole inspiration of this piece comes from Rodrigo's interaction with God, where Rodrigo talks to God and knows of his grace and greatness.
This I believe.

I was introduced to this piece by a recording from Paco de Lucia ... and it was awesome. This is equally perfect.

I agree, but I hasten to point out that you're not saying that the Concierto de Aranjuez is not great music, just that this video IS a documentary!

Images and feelings come a thousandfold ,only pure Spanish guitar music can do this for me..

magcetube 1 year ago

You can truly feel the sadness of the composer in this song. I think it strikes a deep chord in everyone that hears it. The baby is deceased but his memory & spirit will live forever in this magnificent work of art.

The song was written as an expression of his sadness about his son who was born dead.

Amazing.

Yea Romero definitely does this piece the best in my opinion. No one else makes that climax strumming so intense! It sends shivers up my spine!

seeing rodrigo himself as an old man with his wife brought tears to my eyes.. such disappointment and sadness over the loss of their child is a truly humbling thing.. the most sublime sadness and longing ever put to music.. rest in peace, maestro!

Romero's interpretation is the best by far (in may eyes)!
Someone told me that Rodrigo himself said that de Lucias recording was the best for him but I don't know if he knew Romero's recording then.

buy it from amazon, they have pepe romero, paco de lucia, and julio bream. I wish someone could tell me who is better, pepe romero or bream? on this part.(adaigo). Its killing me, i already bought bream's version, and everyone has different opinion. i am not sure if i made right choice.
apmahs 2 years ago
I see Pepe as a master with truly unique compositioning.
kinshasaAPP 2 years ago
I just bought pepe 's cd and the recording doesn't do it justice. It is good but the youtube video is better. I haven't heard bream but I believe that off all the versions that I heard, I think that Pepe plays the piece the closet to the intent of the Rodrigo.
michelleyhill 2 years ago
this is the first time hearing pepe's so i don't know. I absolutely love breams version but this is incredible.
thejugglenaut91 2 years ago
all you listed are masters. it just comes down to preference. i must have listened to about 20 verions. i prefer pepe romero's interpretation.
notetoalex 2 years ago
I've been listening to this adagio for 17 years and I've heard dozens of interpretations of it, and for my money Pepe Romero is the only one who can play it properly. The rest just sound too mild, or too wet, or don't count the rests properly, and simply don't understand what this piece is.
Pepe is the only one who doesn't make a howl of anguish sound like a tango, if you get me.

about 25 years ago our music teacher was totally obsessed with this piece, ive loved it ever since,i totally agree with your comment,i too have listened to numerous versions of this piece of music and i have to agree with you my friend, pepe romero is by far the best ive ever heard, peace brother
englishandangry 2 years ago
At this level you can't say who is better, it's up to you to make the decision. It's like arguing what is the best wine, once you get to really good wine, it's up to personal choice. I would go even further, I get tired of people using the word "better" or "worse" to compare musicians, musicians have different qualities which might or might not appeal to you, what's the point in letting someone else make up your mind?

peplicus 2 years ago
guitarclasiceugene 2 years ago

You know that Rodrigo the composer of Concierto de Aranjuez usually composed for piano, and this was his first work for guitar, now the most famous and most played and admired piece for classical guitar.
