  • all you breeders that slaughter~~ take a warning from our Creator~~your destruction of animals will terrify you~~

  • With a Stallion the insurance increase has more to do with his value as a Stallion then his Racing Winnings. Storm Cat stood Stud at $500,000.00 per breeding covering anywhere from 100 to 130 Mares per year. Add in it was either Northern Dancer or Raise a Native that stood Stud for a $1,000,000.00 Stud Fee no live Foal Guarantee, you wanted that his Fee was $1,500,000.00. So they can earn a Ton.

  • Great horse, but he never got anywhere near Secretariat's times at the Derby and Belmont.

  • @rcschumann SS got in with a soft pack of horses way over rated.Riva Ridge and afirmed was better but would rate SS as the same caliber as Canonero they both look the same

  • @LittleVinnyCock it dosnt matter how good they r they all have huge hearts and are all as equally apriciated they all fight on no matter what

  • @rcschumann i think they all do just aswell as each other i love them all with my whole heart :)

  • such a shame what happened to Exceller he was such an amazing horse

  • @redneckracehorse01 what happend :)

  • One of the horses at my barn comes from seatle slew's blood line, believe he is her great, great grandfather. Too bad she didin't get his talent on the track. lol She got kicked off the track because she was so slow. lol

  • Slew and Affirmed were in just about the same positions as Secretariat and Riva Ridge in the Marlboro Cup of 1973

  • Seattle Slew was one hell of a horse. He proved it time And time again. His loss to J.O. Tobin was when he was a sick horse. Source: Steve Haskins. But whether he would have beaten him that day if he was right we just don't know. I also bet he would have not been 16 lengths back either. It would have been very close. Slew was much stronger at 4 years of age.

  • I love seeing Seattle Slew just relaxing on the farm in his old age!

  • What was the strap that went over his face when he was racing? Was it some sort of tongue tier?

  • @AmongTheSlaughtered It's called an Australian Cheeker noseband. It keeps the bit elevated in the mouth to prevent the tongue from going over the bit and also to deter hard pulling horses from running through the bit.

  • @AmongTheSlaughtered i think it was for mouth support :)

  • Does anyone no his son Slewvescent? That my gelding dad

  • I own His grandson Majestic Design! And he is such a great horse. Raced 17 times and now is in dressage.

  • OMG my first horse the passed away of colic in january 09' was his son...Syncopated Slew!!! :D

  • I have His Grandson! Slew For You.

  • I have his Breyer Horse :D

    lol

  • i own his grand daughter! A Slew Of Fun

  • I own I a grand daughter too lol. She is beautiful. We named her Slewy. Lol. She is really fast

  • But if you're 18 now, like your profile says, then that means you were -17 years old when he was born

  • You make a good point lol.

  • i have his great grand son!

  • he'd have to move up in class to race Secretariat.

  • Sorry, i meant to mark the other one lol my friend has the grand daughter of Secretariat.

  • i have his grandson

  • cool i had one of his sons but unfortionlay he borke his leg sometime durning the night 5 years back and had to be put down

  • thats so sad :'(

  • AI is illegal in thoroughbred racing, his sperm is not around. It died with him

  • I wonder how it would work now...you can take dna from any horse and you can clone it to infinity...any triple crown winner now can have their dna replicated forever and can be sold forever...imagine how much secretariats dna would be worth right now...

  • Dies with seattle Slew?

  • he said that his ensurance was increased to 3 million dollar right. a horse cant win that much money in a lifetime can someone explain to me.

  • Actually they can, and it happens often. Curlin, who raced just last year, won over $10mil.

Heck, the Dubai World Cup is $6mil. Will be increased to $10mil next year. So if you win just that race alone you will break $3mil

  • @babba5 .......Most of the income comes from breeding. If you've been to a Kentucky auction, some foals can sell for over a $2-3 million depending on the sire. Most champions can breed for 20+ years, that's why so many champions retire after their 3 year old season, to start breeding.

  • @babba5 it can

  • @babba5 stud fees.

  • im getting his grandson

  • how much is it for ensurance? like 2 million dollar one cant afford that?

  • i think the Taylors got a good deal dont you?

  • hah i also own one of his grandsons.

  • how much do you pay in insurance, this guy said more than 2 million dollars for seattle slew. he cant win that much money.

  • haha i ALSO have a grandson. Out of slew city slew.

he reg name is Slew City Blue lol lots of half bros out there :)

  • so how much is it for ensurance to normal horses?

  • my horses dad is a race horse also slew of Angels!

  • wow my horse is also seattle slew grandson also that's funny and i got my horses half brother which is also seattle slew's half grandson

  • Slew died on my B-day:(

  • my trainers horse is seattle slew's grandson. they look exactly alike.

  • your trainer owns funny cide?

  • no she owns slew can go

  • that's cool my horse is also seattle slew's grandson-apparently one of the many grandsons

  • Finally someone say ONE OF THEM lol they act like there horse is the only one

  • I can barely even watch this without crying ...

  • plz enter my race horse video contest

  • i thought seattle slew was never beaten

  • He wouldn't have if his owners listened to his trainer.

He was undefeated through the triple crown, then he lost in the Hollywood Cold Cup.... i think. I might be wrong, I know it was at Hollywood.

  • Im going to look at a gelding tomorrow out of WalshXX who is sired by Seattle Slew!

    so excited :P

He is a jumper and sooo gawjuss

  • Your right. Turner didn't want him to race. Oh no.... The Taylers just had to put him on the track again way way too soon. I will never forget that stunt. Turner was right. Don't race this horse!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr. I think it was San Anita... not sure..

  • He wasn't when he won the Crown. THEN Karen and Micky took him to California to race him. THAT made me so mad I could spit! Poor horse. Just ran three huge races and they take him to race again geeeeeeesh. Well he did come out of that. Who in the hell would do that anyway. Win the Triple Crown and then race your horse shortly after the win. IMO that was very wrong......

  • He was beaten?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Eventually, yeah

  • Oh i didnt know that lol

  • Seattle Slew was an outstanding horse, great racer but an even better Sire. Considering that he won the Triple Crown thats sayin something.

  • you are pathetic

  • What are you talking about?

  • seattle died at 28, ??? He died of natural causes im pretty sure

  • Excellor was killed (and knew it) at slaughter when he could no longer make money for his owners. His story, like millions of other racers, takes the joy out of the sport.

  • Sad thing is, the year after he was slaughtered his kids started doing pretty well.

  • the 2nd greatest underdog story behind seabiscuit.

Seattle Slew my all time favourite horse.

  • me to

  • he's still not alive is he?

  • Well, he hasn't sprung from the dead if that's what your asking

  • what? ha.

  • You asked if he was still not alive.

Yes. He is still not alive.

  • my friend owns the grandson and granddaughter of seattle slew. his grandson is named Air Idaho, and his granddaughter's name is Buzzy. (i can't remember her racing name.) the only reason they didn't race, is because Air Idaho got a torn tenden bone and his sister is just slow. one time i breezed Air Idaho. he could've been a successful racehorse but that accident at practice ruined his career, now Air Idaho is a successful hunter/jumper and Buzzy is a western reining horse.

  • there so rough bathin em.

  • i will love her til the day i die and beyond that goes for all my horses luv you guys

  • i think he was so pretty and a great runner and i have his grand daughter skeddadle seattle she is realy sweet and just and just had a fole named miss erin .

  • foal ;-D

    I like the name!

  • ya her sisster well ther was just somethin about her that appeled to me not that i have a favorit horse in my barn of 6 1/2 the 1/2 is an unborn foal that is going to come out of skeddadal seattle but i call her mama for short but i don't have favorit i am extreamly close to all of them but miss erins older sisster was my lil girl she would of been 3 this feb but died last year i miss her so much she was once my lil girl and now she is my gardian angle

  • the owners should have just kept the old trainer and jock instead of being so picky its their fault he lost on the west theyre the ones that wanted to go

  • Damn right it was their fault!!!!!!!

  • Thank you ...excellent.......

  • This was a wonderful tribute to Seattle Slew. What a great horse. I was scanning for videos of him because I now own one of his granddaughters. Hopefully some of that greatness will pass down to her foals. I'll look for your book, Swale1984.

  • I love this video very very much. I wish someone would make a video about all of SEATTLE SLEW'S Eclipse Award winning offspring. There were nine of them!! I believe that SWALE was the best of them. I loved him the most. I published a book all about his life. The title is: GRIT AND VALOR: THE STORY OF SWALE.

  • No horse will ever have the opportunity to provide a Post Triple Crown performance like Slew did. Can you imagine (unless a gelding) any Triple Crown winner even setting a hoof on a racetrack again? Thank you Slew and your owners for all the memories (Pre - During and POST Triple Crown).

  • Secretariat. Whirlaway. Sir barton. Gallant Fox. Affirmed. Assault (ok ok, he was infertle...) need I say more?

  • Carly my comment omitted a word "No horse will ever have the opportunity ((again)) to provide a Post Triple Crown performance like Slew did. No owner is going to run a champion after the Belmont. I enjoy your videos (and would like nothing better than to be proven wrong!) :) Keep up the good work.

  • OOOh.... missed that word. I was going to say, Are you insane? ;-D

  • Alright after my clarification you still dodged the issue! Agree or Disagree in a 2007 or later world? (I might get to utilize that word insane myself) :)

  • Oh, it was a question! Haha. I am so slow today...

I think it depends on the owners. Lael Stable would have kept Barbaro running, the Arab's would retire their horses.... ect.

  • Great video. I loved the clips of Slew's early races, the Champagne and as a 3-year-old prior to the Derby. Truly dominant.

Slew had freakish ability, the most I've ever seen. He'd a have a lot easier time winning a race among alltime greats than his backers would have arguing his merits beforehand.

  • My (sold) horse's grandpa (by Fast Play)

  • Wow, what a horse...he made it look easy.

  • Thanks for posting this! I was just a little girl when Slew won the Triple Crown but I was glued to the TV each time. I fell head over heels!

  • I was lucky enough to see Seattle Slew's visit to Longacres in Seattle after his Triple Crown Win. Great horse!

  • Longacres.... You live in Washington, eh?

  • Perhap the greatest Sire and Sire of Sires ever!

  • One of the greatest ever.

Could you imagine a match race between Seattle Slew and Dr. Fager?

  • God I loved this horse, thanks for that video and trip down memory lane

  • thats my babies daddy.

  • Slew was a powerhouse that truly deserves his place among the greatest of all horses.
