  • @TheMrshardman H

Hello to you Liverpool girl, (I am one myself). My maternal grandfather was also from Belfast. The first time I returned to Liverpool after 8years away my cousin played this for me and had me in tears! I have a very Irish maiden name. I had some really great times in Liverpool, that gritty, dirty old town, with so much character.

  • lol...how the fuck can ya be lancastrian English/Irish/welsh breed cross, and who cares, your just you and this is a brill song... enough said.....

  • Just clicked with me there that when ya say 50 ya probably mean for 2 tickets..your still talkin rubbish though..theyre older now, believe it or not it happens to all of us.they still put on a hell of a show and by the reaction of the crowd you must have been one of the few who didnt enjoy it...i also saw them in tunbridge wells the other night and the crowd couldnt get enough of them..they must still be doing something right to be selling out concerts all over europe

  • 57 codex, shut up talkin through your arse would ya.. was at that gig the other nite and for a start tickets werent 50 quid. the most expensive was 25, so wherever you got your ticket you were ripped off. and they were far from utter crap. i can take someone not been a fan but coming on and talkin crap like that?? get outa here

  • ALL HAIL TO THE IRA! WE WILL RISE AGAIN!

  • @douggie7772010 Terrorist Loving Scumbag

  • @ TheSweetjonny Liverpool and Dublin it's northern Ireland the English still oppresses the people of Liverpool they need to leave!

  • It’s true that this is not an Irish song, but it ought to be. It’s got everything an Irish song should have. So maybe the English are not too bad after all.

  • @patrickspoint Yea its sung by Drunken Irish Band.

  • @Jungleloyalscouse... You've trawled all the way back to a comment I posted 10 months ago and had long forgotten, to tell me that this song is sung by a drunken Irish band, which it is not. It's clear they are not at all drunk. I think you have too much time on your hands.

  • @patrickspoint Fury's guesting with The Dubliners, Guinness was flowing all night with the Whisky chasers Ha Ha Ha.

  • @Jungleloyalscouse... I think you are wrong. The line-up is: Barney McKenna (sitting), John Sheahan, Sean Cannon, Patsy Wagchorn (singer) and Eamonn Campbell. They are all members of “The Dubliners.” This is just a great song and nobody can sing it better.

  • @AndreasSU I've subscribed to your channel a bunch of times, but for some reason it doesn't show it here. Thanks for uploading this!

  • Liverpool is a lovely place with very friendly people, my sister is in college over there, and when I went over to visit i was very surprised by the atmosphere, from all the bad media and publicity it gets about the youth and gangs, every1 i met were so polite and friendly and i will definately be back, a lovely place !! :)

  • What exactly is the link between Ireland and Liverpool?

  • @TheSweetjonny... In the old days of the sailing ships, Liverpool was the main departure port for Irish emigrants to America, Australia etc. Many people never returned, so it was goodbye forever. During the famine, Irish people bought tickets to America etc. but when they got to Liverpool found the ticket was a fake, so with no money they were stuck in Liverpool, which is why there are so many people of Irish descent there.

  • @patrickspoint Thanks man, appreciate it...

  • @TheSweetjonny a lot of irish landed in liverpoool for work - especially when the docks there were actually fucntioning!

  • @TheSweetjonny The great Irish Sea triumvirate of Dublin, Belfast, and Liverpool. Linked in many. many ways, not least by Geography, but by also by heritage. T P O'Connor, MP for Liverpool - only constituency outside of Ireland to elect an Irish nationalist MP - 5 elections un-opposed. That is a just a small link in the chain that joins Liverpool with Ireland.

  • @TheSweetjonny A very large Famine.

  • we are not english we are scouse.

  • At 4:06 he signs Dalgleish !!

  • Terrific song!

  • Legendary, Make me proud to be Irish..

  • As a Lancastrian English/Irish/Welsh cross breed can I remind everyone that this is a Liverpool folk song and although many sailors (including one of my forebears) were Irish not all of them were. That there was a big Welsh influence in Liverpool as well as Irish - my Scouse great grandmother (illegitimate and illiterate having been raised as an orphan in a workhouse) was of Welsh rather than Irish descent. Many Liverpudlians were also of English descent, so it's not an exclusively Irish song.

  • @peewit50and your point being

    ???

  • @peewit50 yeah i beef up the irish my wifes side was irish me mam i believe was from welsh stock all i know is the english are not involved.. i am welsh i am irish i am scouse ..tucteen!!!!!!!

  • @peewit50 this is a song for scousers may they be irish, scots, welsh or english.......:)

  • @paultheshiv I think you are absolutely right. The song was seemingly collected by a New Yorker, who heard it from a sailor, who said he'd heard it from a Liverpool man. There is no indication as to whether the said Liverpool man was an immigrant into England or not - or whether he'd been the composer anyway. The first commercial recording was seemingly by Ewan MacColl (English-Scots) and a guy called Lou Killen was in the chorus and he supposedly taught it to Luke Kelly.

  • @peewit50

  • Makes me want 2 go bak home!!
