What they do is clean up the camp before the report comes in, they give the prisoners a day off, give them new clothes, and show the healthiest of prisoners. Where do you think the other hundred are? Hidden away from the media. If you look closely at the guy playing the guitar, his shirt is 10x bigger than he is, it's making him look big. The major in the interview was later killed for his statement and his body burned.

if South VIetnam won the war, I don't think there will be re-educated camp for North Vietnamese prisoner. they will kill them all, just like they did to anyone who suspicious as Vietcong during Vietnam war. this camp was filmed in 1984 and at that time VIetnam was very poor, even my family didn't have enough food to eat. if you said Vietnamese Gov is cruel, then I think they didn't need to build these camps, they just simply killed them all.

North Vietnam took the concept of re-education from China as a way to isolate "dangerous" people from the population and in turn try to kill off as many prisoners as they can without the world seeing a red flag.

If South Vietnam had won the war, it would have been supporters of Ho Chi Minh in those concentration camps. Don't think that South Vietnam was any more tolerant then North Vietnam.

The soldiers of South Vietnam were cruel and corrupt. They would have murdered many supporters of Ho Chi Minh had the South won. Right-wing leader; Suharto of Indonesia, killed 500.000 members of the communist party during his dictatorship.

Anticommunist dictatorships are no friends of democracy or tolerance.

I oppose those Stalinist re-education camps. But I have no love for the rats of the South Vietnamese Army. South Vietnam was a corrupt capitalist state, who only survived until 1975 thanks to billions of USA dollars. The south was NO DEMOCRACY and the flag of South Vietnam stands for imperialism ( under Japanese rule ) and capitalism ( under French and American rule ).

The Stalinists of Ho Chi Minh were anticommunists and I oppose their regime. But the South was a puppet of America.

I've heard stories being told by the "prisoners" themselves. But I had never imagine what or how it would have looked like, until watching this video. Now thinking back about the stories being told, my whole body is full of chills and goosebumps.

@silliepooh this prison was obviously as fake. it was made for the american reporter. they transferred the prisoners from the real prison to this nice looking one just this TV special. my father was in a "re-education camp" aka prison, believe me, it was nowhere near as nice as this. if you want to get a slight view of the real camps, youtube "vuot song" aka "journey from the fall".  even so, my father said that the prison conditions were worse than in vuot song...

@virusSOS Major Cuong and his family were granted to the US under Humanity Organization in early 90's. He had so many problems with his health due to being abused and mistreated while he was in communist prison, therefore, he committed a suicide whether in 2005 or 2006. He will always be in my heart.

I have read many stories about the camps. This video broke my heart (again). God will punish the Northern command. Commies always do this after the "Win" a war... they don't let the people just go home, no .... they have to imprison them (Russia, China, N Korea, Cambodia). It's always the same.
