excelente parce!! q bandota!!! y q chimba usted por subir estos videos q mucha falta hacen en el ambiente de ingorancia del youtube! elo excelente!!!!
Featuring the operatic voice of Mary Thomas during the introduction, she flubbed the first take by starting the vocals too early. However, Jeff Lynne elected to use the take (complete with her interjection, "Oops!") anyway. During live performances, the 'aria' was provided by the band's bassist Kelly Groucutt
close, but i think you all missed the word "hinter". I am not german, but its my neighbouring country and i speak the language pretty ok. But still i could be wrong :).
The Opera part i believe is:
Weit, hinter in die ferne, man hört, man hört die muzik.
roughly translates to "Far, back there in the distance , one hears , one hears the music"
Ahh Perfect! All has sense now... sorry for my mistakes I was so happy by find the lyrics... I guess they write "oe" when they try to use "ö" I found it in a kind of interview I guess the things was messed up in the translation. Thanks for all! Now I can sing it!!!
Long time since I saw this, about 30 years! Thanks! BTW that "priss on the violin who ain´t playing jack" played with the Royal Philharmonic before joining ELO. The opera singer´s voice was sung by Kelly Groucutt (bass) by the way:)
Kelly sang the opera bit live, however, on record it's definitely opera singer Mary Thomas singing in German incl. mishap and starting again. Lyrics are something like "??? ??? mein Herz mein Herz hört die Musik"
OK, that´s interesting. I seem to remember an interview with JL about 100 years ago where he said that KG sang it, anyway thanks! The "mistake" at the beginning was planned, of course, and the singer clearly says "oops!" which is an English expression, not German (as far as I know) which points to KG. Anyway, without becoming the Sound Detectives, it´s good to have different stories. Cheers!
Oops (English) = Ups (German). Maybe we should call Jeff in LA re this... Either way, raise your glasses to Mary and Kelly (anyone heard his solo album?)!
First time I have seen this video in around 30 years! I remember seeing it as a kid and my brother had the vinyl album. I love it. Getting a little misty eyed.
I don't think anyone is playing jack on this one. looks them lip synching themselves. This is an awesome song and this band was greatly under appreciated and had an excellent concept that many of the pop culture youth of the 70's didn't know how to appreciate.

We... oops
Weit in der Ferne, man hoert, man hoeret die Musik
I knew that was german, I knew it. It means: "Far in the distance, one hears, one hears the music"

Those guy's could certainly tell Jacqueline Du Pre something about how to play the cello. LOL when one of them starts playing it like a guitar!
