I've found this EXTREMELY useful, even though showing a bit more lead tonal options and more chord handling would be preferred as you mostly played on the 7th string showing how fucking good low end it has :)
Which is better for metal stuffs like children of bodom and trivium. Mesa Boogie Mark V, Mesa Boogie DUAL RECTIFIER or Marshall JVM140H? Suggestions pls.
@FleshesAndBones I've played all three, deffinetly don't go marshall...if your into trivium and cob, rock the dual rectifier, but if you play other stuff as well that needs really great cleans get the mark v...the mark v is much more versatile, but if thats what your gonna be playing rock the recto
@derHuckepackmann because then it would come into Triaxis territory I guess... But yeah, would've been a cool feature. Love my Mark V regardless of no midi :-)
@Ness0007 actually the fact that it's impossible to use the mark 2c+ setting just for soloing and step on a footcontroller to engage the extreme mode for rhythm metal tone really pisses me off. i mean i love the crushing tone of the extreme mode and the super creamy gain of the mark IIC+ but i'd like to use both modes without having 2 amps and switching live. i love it but i also think it's super overpriced in europe! almost 2600€ thats 3400 USD! i will buy one when i win in the lottory :-D
Hello! I want to ask you a question about the MarkV. I have a new one, it sounds amazing, but when I change chanels(using the footswich or not) i hear a noise like a "pak", it´s normal?
I hear your tests, but your music is really amazing! Thanks man! (from Buenos Aires- Argentina)
@elguason1969 It shouldn't do that... unless your channels are on different wattage settings... if channel 1 is on 10watt and channel three is on 90watt.. and you change channels, it will make a popping sound. Put all channels on the same wattage, and it shouldn't be an issue. (it's in the manual)
This thing in my opinion is better that Engl or Framus or Diezel, as far as versatility, as for sound with good setup all are great amps but each of them is voiced differently.
@expressyourselfist well, engls special edition is at least as versatile. but these amps are on a level where you cant say that one is better, only that you like one better. if the mark V or IV wouldnt be that expensive i'd get one, but unfortunately i dont have 4000 bucks to spend on an amp. dammit!
hi. awesome video as usual, thank you! is it my impression or the Mark V high-gain tone is a bit dry if compared with the Mark IV? I mean, it seems to me from the the videos I've watched that the Mark IV has that sort of "liquid gain", those much sweeter and more present mids that make the sound huge and juicy. What is your idea? Thank you.
Why is the master volume set to zero and you are still audible in the cab?! I just won't to know how loud are you setting the amp but seems like I can't figure that out.. Found that this is also the case with the Overture video. Just bought the combo Mark V - your videos convinced me to! Thanks!
@fearedse Thanks for answering that one! I just found the possibility yesterday by myself - it seems the better way to set the amp for recording since you are cutting away an unneeded signal chain. By the ways your volume levels turned out pretty loud! Awesome videos mate - keep doing that!
There's a ton of punk and metal bands that tune to standard or around there and they sound heavy as shit... Metallica, slayer, megadeth, lamb of god, most black metal bands etc.... If you want to tune super low you'll have fun on the low end but the mid range single string stuff is all mud now because the strings are too loose. I think it's better to down tune the bass and keep the guitar around standard, bass doesn't need super clean articulation so the chunkiness can help.
@ottawadrummer thats why people use fat as fuck strings. for drop b/b standard i use 12-64's, for drop d and e standard i use 10-52, for drop c and c standard 11-58's. and you need tu turn up mids, then it'll sound pretty tight and badass.
i wanna make a really good high gain like you noise but the amp makes a lot of noise. my guitar has 5 switch sellector 1 the first the bridge pickup it makes a lot of noise when i change to the second it doesnt so the pickups that make the noise are the 1st, 3rd and the 5th but the 2 and 4 dont make noise can you tell me why is that?
@MatKiller1197 You have a stratocaster right? well those single sized pickups tend to make a lot of noise opushed to the limit and when 2 are togheter well you form a noise cancel thanks to magnetism i just dont know how to explain :D
@Royart142 like can a seymour dunan distortion cancel the noise because i will buy a guitar by gus g the gus esp ltd 600 nt that has the seymour duncan distorion ones on. the version of this guitar will have seymour duncan blackouts
@GabGabAuJous 7 strings are a one trick pony for tones. Go try a les paul and listen to all the subtle nuances in the tones going on. And oh yes, it's thick! that's what she said...ya ya i know it's over with but I couldn't resist.
@kalakuttakamina And the size of your strings. To my ears the 7 and 8 strings sound a bit 'clangy' and don't sound like that sharp chainsaw sound, it's loose and wobbly. Just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.
@kalakuttakamina That's sort of the cause of 'clunky-ness' but also the reason why you can tune it so low, so it's a catch22. ... Also when you use thinner strings I find it easier to do hammer-ons/pulloffs, and the chords sound better. I don't see the purpose in owning a 7 string really, the chords used and how it is executed is what sounds heavy, not how low you can go, the guitar is mid-range instrument (on the EQ), the drums and bass are what gives balls to the sound.
@ottawadrummer if you scoop out the mids on an 8string you'll get nothing but mud. and noone would hear you in a mix cause you'd be right in the bassist's frequencies.
Is he really playin through the amp only??You can't see the floor to see if there is a stomp box down there..makes me wonder..or an equalizer-or compressor..???
@fearedse is there much of a difference between the rectifier cab and the roadster cab? I'm planning on getting a 212 cab, don't know what to get, they're pretty similar in features so I don't really know if they sound different....
@schecter707 if you use a lot of effects, then the AxeFX. if you mainly just use distortion and clean sounds for your playing, or some reverb, Mark V. I have a Mark V, and i love the hell out of the thing.
@DarioSantaAnna They are both completley different beasts, but both give you that Mesa sound...
The Mark V is very unforgiving, so if you're a sloppy player, look elsewhere ;) While the Roadster and rectifiers in general are much more forgiving with a looser but still tight low end. It's easier to get the recto to sound like a Mark, than trying to get a Mark to sound like a recto. If your going for really tight metal with fast response picking dynamics; go mark.
last week around friday.. i went to a shop nearby and gave the mk5 a test ride.. and i must say i am impressed.. at first I thought that i'll be digging it for its extreme mode on ch3 due to the fact that I play a sevenstring.. but i realized I loved!! the 2C+ and Mk4 modes.. its simply stunning..
Hey dude, great stuff. Yours are some of the best sounding/looking (aka well produced) vids out there. Great playing and great original tunes as well. We all appreciate your stuff. One stupid question... why in the hell do you sit on that aluminum step ladder? That looks like the most uncomfortable thing ever!! ;-) No worries man, just kidding. Thanks for the continued great shit.
Great video as usual! I just got this amp a couple weeks ago and love it! It sounds better then anything I've played through before. Got any settings tips on this one Ola?
I know it's not really considered a metal amp, but I think it would be neat if you did a video on an Orange rockerverb or thunderverb. I've heard these can get a pretty cool sludgy metal sound, plus I heard the guys from Mastodon just switched over to Orange amps. Would you do a video if you had access to the amps?
When I read "walkthrough" I was expecting voice.. so I was really hoping this would be another one of those videos with the machine voices talking, erm I mean people like Mel Gibson talking.
I sure like the Boogie. I'm looking forward to trying a Laney Ironheart as soon as the shop gets them.
I was wondering with all the amps you've tested and having read on one of the vids that you test in an apartment so volume is low, do you ever find an amp you would have given a kidney for turned out a little disappointing when cranked to gig volume?
So I take it you must really like the Mark V because I haven't seen you do this with any of the other amps and you have had some really amazing amps in some of your videos. Just need to put that Mark V against a Mark IIC+....
@fearedse If the IIC+ is hard to find hear it's going to be real hard to get one across the pond.. But I hear from every one that has one nothing can keep up with them in tightness, thickness and attack..
@stonepearce Yeah man, the IIC+ is a major bitch to find, and I hear exactly the same things you hear and more, I am always hearing that nothing can keep up with it in Dynamics as well as tightness, thickness and attack. I may end up buying a IIC+ and creating perfect clones of them. Mesa has not put out a clone yet and their patents have expired on the IIC+, so its fair game for me and Mesa, plus I think that these days IIC+ prices have gone up way to high, I mean four grand for a IIC+?

I've heard these can get a pretty cool sludgy metal sound, plus I heard the guys from Mastodon just switched over to Orange amps. Would you do a video if you had access to the amps?

Är det möjligt att du skulle kunna göra en Metal Demo på Marshall JCM 900.... eller bara säga om du vet nått om den?

forgive me mesa fans but if the savage does bend this amp over and pull its little boogie pants down your are deaf. Riffs are really nice though.

This amp has been fighting with my love of the ENGL Savage =S

This amp sounds fucking awesome. Is it yours or did you borrow it? I'm actually considering selling my ENGL and saving up for a Mark IV or V.

When I read "walkthrough" I was expecting voice.. so I was really hoping this would be another one of those videos with the machine voices talking, erm I mean people like Mel Gibson talking.
Those crack me up so much

I sure like the Boogie. I'm looking forward to trying a Laney Ironheart as soon as the shop gets them.
I was wondering with all the amps you've tested and having read on one of the vids that you test in an apartment so volume is low, do you ever find an amp you would have given a kidney for turned out a little disappointing when cranked to gig volume?

Tip: kill the bass on channel 3, use the EQ to compensate... Way tigher sound with no farting

now after this video I understand how much can bass make your guitar sound better in a song..but still pretty heavy and brutal tone though...rock on.

You probably get asked this a lot, but out of the all the amps you've demoed. Do you have a favourite?

So I take it you must really like the Mark V because I haven't seen you do this with any of the other amps and you have had some really amazing amps in some of your videos. Just need to put that Mark V against a Mark IIC+....
stonepearce 11 months ago 13
@stonepearce correct!
fearedse 11 months ago
@fearedse If the IIC+ is hard to find hear it's going to be real hard to get one across the pond.. But I hear from every one that has one nothing can keep up with them in tightness, thickness and attack..
stonepearce 11 months ago
@stonepearce Yeah man, the IIC+ is a major bitch to find, and I hear exactly the same things you hear and more, I am always hearing that nothing can keep up with it in Dynamics as well as tightness, thickness and attack. I may end up buying a IIC+ and creating perfect clones of them. Mesa has not put out a clone yet and their patents have expired on the IIC+, so its fair game for me and Mesa, plus I think that these days IIC+ prices have gone up way to high, I mean four grand for a IIC+?
