  • Your my hero!!! expecting baby number 4 and REALLY want to go the homebirth unnassited route but makes me a little nervous...did you have anything on hand for backup in case of bleeding etc?

  • Your video is the 1st story I had heard of a homebirth. It's one you posted a really long time ago, I am not sure if you still have that up. But it really inspired me which led to my pregnancy vlogs & journey to home birth (my video is on my channel). I never had the chance to tell you & I wanted you to know that your story really changed the course of my life in many ways. THANK YOU!

  • @cookiepartyy I can't wait to check out your vids now! It makes me feel really good that sharing my experience has influenced someone else in a positive way, I was hoping for that and now feel totally encouraged to continue sharing, so Thank YOU!

  • I should have never even of thought I could watch this at work. I'm crying, got snot coming down my nose... Oh my gosh! Angela what kinda She-ra are you?!!! What an amazing story! And what kinda of husband is that??? Trust, my husband is supportive but he, I'm telling you, he would have freak the bleep out. OH MY GOSH! I feel like clapping at the end of a movie. Like I need popcorn... Maybe not... LOL

  • what trip me out was eating the placenta wow lol.

  • I loooove his face when you're mentioning the cuddling time LOOOL Hilarious. You guys are too cute :p

  • I really couldn't have done it lol you r a solder!!!!!!

  • Hi my is Angela. I just wanna say your story Is not only a beautiful story its inspirational your a strong women and seems like u have a good man by your side !! I wish u the best with your current pregnancy ! giving birth is a beatiful thing but can be very scary I look upto u!! oh and I love your name ( lol)

  • OMG!! Such an inspirational story <3 I cried at the end. You are so courageous. I told my mom a while back that I was doing this and she said "who lied to you" I can't wait to show her ths video. Thanks for sharing!!

  • Jarvas is patient and supportive

  • BEAUTIFUL =)

  • You are amazing

  • Wow God is so GOOD!!

  • Amazing story. Although I know that families were giving birth w/o medical assistance for hundreds of years, I'm still amazed by your story. Girl, you are hecka courageous. And, I love that your hubby was up to the challenge and didn't try to talk you out of it. I smiled throughout this entire video. Thanks for sharing your story, Angela.

  • I remember a midwife saying that she never had to check women for dialation, that once they got to the stage of wanting to go to the hospital, or saying they can't do it, that's when it's time to push LOL

  • That was amazing to hear! Yall are so funny lol. I can't believe you have such different recollections of the same event [but that is what tends to happen with people in general]. I thought you would've discussed it all like right after it happened cuz that must've been the most intense experience ever!

You better stop telling Jarvas he was asleep lol! That's really good that he was able to support you form afar, I mean seriously, it had to be hard to not panic or crowd your space.

  • My sis n law recently had a home birth assisted by a midwife. Her midwife told her to start taking alfalfa supplements and as a result she said that she bled very little with her delivery. This is her second child. She even said that she had stopped bleeding completely after about a week and a half. I have not researched this yet (as I plan to because I too am pregnant :) ) but I just wanted to give you that info as it may be helpful in your next delivery.

  • @Kingkids26 Thanks for sharing, I will definitely be looking into the alfafa supplements!

  • @Kingkids26 this is agood advice. did your sister started taking the alfalfa when she was pregnant or after the delivery? If she was taking when pregnant, was it the whole pregnancy term? thanks

  • Oops just read your comment thread, sorry. I got my answer now!

  • When did you decide to go in for a check up for you and baby? And will you do it again?

  • thank you so much for sharing this amazing experience with us :)

  • WOW you are awesome!!

  • :). You're so cool. 'Tis all. Can't wait for my experience. I've got to do a bit more convincing, though... my finace thinks I'm CRAZY.

  • You are all woman!

  • thanks for sharing. What does your husband do for a living?

  • What an incredibly, courageous woman you are. I was watching this video in awe and complete delight. Thanks for sharing your wonderful birthing experience. What did the placenta taste like? Btw- Congratulations on the new baby!

  • @LifeInTheSunshine Thank you! It tasted like saline solution, it wasn't bad tasting at all.

  • Congrats on the baby! How is your diet going to change (if at all) now that you're pregnant?

  • I heard eating raw okra helps with an easy delivery.

  • Superwoman!

  • Thanks for sharing the amazing story. How far along are you with this pregnancy?

  • Your husband is adorable! I enjoyed your birth story the first time and I'm still enjoying listening to it again

  • Wow... you are a strong woman and your husband is very supportive and you are both very blessed. I don't know if I could have survived that experience :) Congrats on the upcoming birth of your second child. Your son is a perfect mix of the two of you :)

  • Wow what a experience!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!

  • WOW!!! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, it was beautiful!!! You guys are so cute together lol... it's great to see open minded husbands still exist lol... kudos to him for that!!! :) As for eating the placenta, there's a lot of women that do it... another reason for it is because it helps get nutrients for the breast milk... one of my sisters ate her placenta, bit by bit... she froze it and ate a tiny square of placenta each day... anyway, great story you guys shared, thank you!

  • @mylieblue Thank you so much! I am very blessed to have someone like him! I am considering freezing my placenta this time as well, last time we just buried it.

  • You are so strong, "je reste sans voix" = speechless thx for sharing your expérience

  • "optimistically delusional or delusionally optimistic"!? lol "wait a minute world"... LOL! congrats on the new baby!!! you guys are all so good-looking! :D peace and blessings. *jae*

  • @JaeTracie Thank you, I tend to not have any idea what I am saying until after I say it, lol:)

  • Well I think for spiritual reasons when you are ready to bring your husband in to help you, instead you should actually be bringing in the midwife to help you. I did hear in your video about what you did to cut the cord but I didn't hear how u tied it. Also you may want to surf the net about what to do with your placenta as far as ingesting the entire thing over a longer period of time. Not just a little bit on the same day and then disposing of the rest, so you can prevent postpartumdep. Peace.

  • @jm123111 Oh I am sorry I didn't elaborate, we tied it with thick cotton thread that I had boiled to sterilize it. My husband did it so I don't remember what knot he used, probably a square knot. I am considering freezing my placenta this time and maybe ingesting a little each day, last time we buried it under a pear tree in the back yard. I don't really want to do the dehydrating and encapsulating thing.

  • manny looks just like hubby

  • Your family is so beautiful. I have always thought of having a "semi" freebirth. I would do it at one of those birthing centers with a midwife who understands how to stay out of the way unless I need her. :) I know. I'm really unrealistic sometimes. :p

    Loved your video!

    Jen

  • @BlackAngelPlayah I actually think that is a great idea and not really all that unrealistic. I've heard of a few women doing just that, you just have to find the right midwife...

  • you are a strong woman!

    ........

i wasnt ready for the placenta bowl pic lol

  • I am really considering birthing at home after a few unlikeable doctor visits AND midwife visits. My husband is on board with this as well. We are just a little nervous about. What is your absolute best advice for birthing at home for a new mommy and daddy? My "due date" is April 12th, 2012.

  • @NapturalJas My best advice is to learn as much as you can from varied sources about the birthing process, I suggest "Spiritual Midwifery" by Ina May Garten AND reading medical texts AND reading as many unassisted and assisted birth stories you can find. Find out as much as you can about possible complications and have a plan of action/supplies for the possibilities. Take an infant and adult CPR class. Don't let fear control your thoughts and decisions, inform yourself as much as possible.

  • @arcamp83 & @NapturalJas I'm in the process of certification through DONA for birth doulas & i LOVE Spiritual Midwifery (about halfway through). I found that gem at Half Price books & have thoroughly enjoyed the read so far. Angie is right... read read read everything you can get your hands on! & ask lots of questions!

  • @NapturalJas I can't over-emphasize making sure to get information from as many sources as possible, specifically conflicting sources, so that you can be aware of both sides of the issues. Many medical practices are outdated and not in sync with current scientific literature, e.g. episiotomies, pelviometry, etc... So I tend to read the most current medical and scientific research on matters rather than listening to what anyone in the medical profession says... pm for more specific info:)

  • Powerful experience wow

  • Kswn

  • So...i'm probably completely uninformed, but how do you go about getting a birth certificate...?

  • @xx2Sweet3 Where I live, I just went to the county clerk's office and filled out some paperwork and provided a couple supporting documents. The people there were a little confused at first but it was pretty seamless.

  • Thank you for sharing such a unique, interesting (and a little scary) story. But I'm with your husband to have a midwife. I think Erykah Badu is a doula. I don't know where you live but it can be hard to find a trustworthy person you actually feel totally comfortable with, which is why you need to start searching way before you even get pregnant. Also, can you explain when and how many inches close to the navel did you tie the umbilical cord. Peace.

  • @jm123111 I believe in waiting 20-30 minutes and keeping the placenta higher than the baby, cut the umbilical cord no closer than an inch from the navel. I feel most comfortable and secure when I am alone so thats my ideal birthing situation. Doulas are not midwives and can not legally offer medical assistance as a midwife can. There is a midwife I have met with, but if I am having a homebirth and experience medical complications I will be going to the hospital and have an ob/gyn that I trust.

  • Beautiful story!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!! You two are so funny, you guys remind me of me and my husband. :)

  • love love love this story !! and congrats once again...I cracked up laughing when Jarvis said he thought you were crazy and that its just not normal lol he is hilarious !!!

  • @nobby481 Wow that sounds like quite a story! I can't imagine how I'd feel in a situation like that!

  • Awesome story!

  • Awesome story it sounds like an amazing experience. I labored at home for two days but ultimately ended up in the hospital with an emergency c-section. I would have much rather been at home because once at the hospital the would allow me to move. I felt totally out of control. Congrats on the pregnancy.

  • @msjae98 I know what you mean, in an emergency situation feeling totally out of control, it sucks big time:( Also sounds like you got the worst of both worlds, you got to suffer labor pains for 2 whole days and then have abdominal surgery:( My heartfelt sympathy to you mama, hopefully if you go through childbirth again it will go better...

  • oh wow your pregnant again?! Congrats!

  • Wow!!! Manny looks just like daddy!!

  • You are an amazing, strong, and caring woman. Nowadays, you don't find woman like you. I admire you for your courage. Thanks for sharing you story. Women endure so much pain for the love of their children.

  • this was an amazing story, thank you for sharing

  • YOUR SMART IM GOING TO HAVE A AT HOME WATER BIRTH TO WHEN THE TIME COMES!!!!!!:) CONGRATS!!

  • Hi Angela, i always thought that Manni looked like you, but OH NOOOO!!! he is ALL Jarvis (who by the way is such a cutie!!). You were super brave, i could never do it on my own like that. i am so happy everything went well, and second time round you will be better prepared, as far as what to expect. i hope the pregnancy is going well so far and you look perkier! thank you for sharing! xx

  • @louloumatou Thank you! I agree he is defintely at least 90% Jarvas, it is funny to look at them sleeping, then they REALLY look identical! I hope to be better prepared this time, I have to go catch up on your vids I haven't been on YT as much lately with the MS!

  • @arcamp83 oh shoot, sorry about the morning sickness, i am so happy to be out of that stage, how horrid!! i hope it passes soon for you! i am now 24 weeks, time is now flying by!! :) xxx

  • @louloumatou Wow, you are 24 weeks already, time really is flying by!

  • Manny straight STOLE jarvis' face I literally lol-ed because this was my first good look at him.. They look so much alike! I can see you in Manny but dang they're twins, ur family is so cute!

  • @RikaStinka YES he did, lol! I swear I thought the same thing when I first saw Manny, honestly I have to look really hard to see any of me in him!

  • Loved hearing your story!! Amazingly inspiring :) your son looks so much like both of you!

  • I luv that you guys disagree but are still so respectful and silly! And I luv how Jarvis values being supportive... and you acknowledge how he felt about the whole process... his wishes, etc. Looks like you are built to last. I don't know you guys but that makes me so happy.

  • @livluvlavishly Oh thank you thank you thank you! We have been together nearly 11 years and we are learning everyday how to make it work! We have so many differences and learning to respect them rather than try to change each other makes things a lot more "harmonious"!

  • awesome story! i saw the documentary the bussiness of being born also very good film.

  • Beautiful story sis, I swear Many has your husband face lol, he looks like you too, but this was the first good look at hubby. Girl you are so strong and fearless. I need to check out the movie

  • @AFRICANEXPORT I know, right! One of the first things I said when I saw Manny was "He looks just like you!", thanks for watching:)

  • How did you know where to cut the umbilical cord? Wow! This is really brave of you. I keep waiting to see you here at Family Thrift that way you don't think I'm some psycho. Check out my video-it's not that good but just a start. :) Love the family and good luck.

  • @nomakeupcutie You can cut the umbilical cord anywhere really, except its best to leave at least an inch or so still attached to baby, so not too close to the navel. I haven't been thrifting lately, but as soon as I find out the gender I will definitely be starting back up to get baby things! If you see me definitely say hi, I won't think you are psycho, lol! I'll check out your vids now:)

  • Awesome!! I saw the movie "The Business of Being Born" also. I didn't get to have an at home birth, but I definitely support them. Congrats to you and Jarvis :)

  • What a beautiful and courageous story.Thank You for sharing.

  • LOL at Jarvis' reaction.

  • You are my hero! I don't know if I would ever have the strength to do an unassisted birth. You are great!

  • Wow! Now that's gangsta!

  • @CurlyCrazyfulLeah LOL:) G4L:P

  • thank you both for sharing. if you can please note in the comments or in a video, postpartum, what it was like caring for manny & yourself while being exhausted & in pain. & also what, if any, remedies you had for body. i've had friends with hospital deliveries who've had special underwear, pads, ointments, sprays, all for soothing following delivery. so i wonder if there were any things you used or did to feel better. just any things about life, your baby, & your body following birth, be great

  • @carm8421 Oh there is a lot to say about the postpartum period and I will probably make a video soon talking about that, thanks for the suggestion!

  • wow!!!!! ive been waiting for this. this is crazy but amazing!!

  • Has Manny had any vacinations? If not, what alternatives are you doing?

  • @chellye12 He hasn't had any vaccinations, I haven't decided yet about which vaccinations he will get but when he starts school we will see...

  • @arcamp83 Did you have any prenatal care with doctors? Did you take any supplements, vitamins?

  • Ok, this may be a stupid question... how do you go about getting a birth certificate after an unassisted birth? And, did the doctors do his foot prints at his first check up?

  • @jwhitley6 We went to the county clerk's office and filled out some paperwork and provided a notarized letter from people confirming my pregnancy and a witness to the birth (Jarvas). We didn't do any footprints...

  • At some point did you go to the hospital to get stitched up?? What a very courageous story!! For the first time around i would have to have a midwife nearby...

  • @MusicLova84 I didn't need to get stitched up, I didn't tear, it just felt like I did when he was crowning, but everything stayed intact thank God!

  • Yay...I've been looking forward to this video. Thanks, Angela & Jarvis! Great story!

  • Amazing

  • That was a beautiful story!!! I'm so inspired.

  • it's really great that jarvis shared in the video and i really love that you mention having thoughts about planning to get an ambulance and epidural, and that you talk about how immense the pain was, i think it's great forewarning of how difficult it is, but that ultimately you overcame and made it through on your own. the two of you are pretty great for taking this on yourselves. also, i offer congratulations to you both and best to yas.

  • @carm8421 Thank you, I hope I don't scare the crap out of anyone listening who may be considering natural childbirth without meds but that was my experience and like you said I did overcome it and make it through the pain. This probably sounds a little crazy but I am actually looking forward to going through it again, its kind of like running a marathon!

  • Great Story !! So inspiring

  • Wonderful story..you were so brave! Manny looks so much like Jarvis...they have the same beautiful eyes.

  • We are the World - Thanks, Jarvis!

Congrats, again, on the new addition.

    Team MANNY!!!

  • Awesome ... amazing birthing story and I'm glad your man was there to share with his side of the story too, thanks for sharing it with us :)

  • Thanks for the video Angela. I always felt cheated because I had to have a c0section and I was planning a water birth. Jarvis is really taking pride in his role and I love that, you have an amazing family and wonderful story

  • @tastiredbone Thank you, its unfortunate how many women end up having to have c-sections, my mom was told her hips were too narrow, my step-mom had failure to progress, and my cousin recently had to have one after a failed induction. I believe in most cases the c-sections could have been avoided but the medical establishment tends to do things that make attempting a vaginal birth much more problematic. Sorry you didn't get to birth the way you wanted:(

  • @tastiredbone Also if you ever decide to have any more babies keep in mind that many women are able to give vaginal birth after c-section. A lot of doctors will discourage it by saying it poses more risk of utereine rupture but from all that I've read it isn't any less risky than having abdominal surgery (c-section) and most women I've talked to that have vbacs have great outcomes!

  • This video is so Great!!!! I always believed that a women's power to deliver a baby on her own was being blown off and disregarded. Some people truly believe that the only way to deliver a baby properly is in a hospital

  • How long after Manny was born did you both go to a DR?

  • @ksg314 I took Manny in for a well baby check up (that was totally unneccessary but to placate my grandfather) at 6 weeks, I never went to the doctor myself.

  • @arcamp83 did manny get his vaccinations after the 6th week? i think there is a couple that need to be done the first few weeks, what did u decide for those?

  • What an AMAZING story!!!! It was a little hard to listen to at first though, I'm easily queazy.

  • Awww.. u guys are so cute! Thank you for sharing your story. I love your videos because you're so open and honest. It's really refreshing and I don't think there was 'TMI" :)

  • aww!! MANNY LOOKS JUUUUUST LIIIIIKE JARVIS!!
