  • The Bloc Quebecois will side with whom ever the leader of the opposition is, well at least they used too...

  • Dion could own Ignatieff any day

  • Harper is not a democart

  • WOW.

  • I remember this session. Dion was on fire! This was one of his shining moments.

  • Harper leads a party full of Albertan separatists. Didn't one of his party strategists once write that Alberta should separate if Liberals back in 1997? Harper even hinted at it when he was part of the NCC ten years ago when he wanted to build a wall around Quebec, much like Berlin. The NCC is a group that has campaigned against the Canada Health Act, which is the act that promises every Canadian free healthcare. And now we are supposed to trust him? Shame on the Canadians who voted him for PM.

  • If the party is full of Albertan separatists, why are there MP's from almost every province? I am just saying!

  • The new Conservative Party is a coalition of old Reform Party hacks, red tories and Mike Harris refugees. But it is largely dominated by the first since Reform is Harper's background and none of it would hold together without is autocratic style of leadership.

  • Well I think Dion just irrevocably destroyed his reputation as being a staunch federalist, by trying to form a coalition supported by the Bloc. Weeks after Harper earned the strongest minority in Canadian history (and his Libs earned nearly their weakest showing to date) he has some nerve in trying to pull this stunt, which would have incredibly fragmented the country, to try to quench his thirst for power. Now Harper's Cons are polling 43-50%, easy majority territory.

  • Harper entered into an almost identical arrangment with the Bloc and the NDP in 2005.

  • @picarddelta Not even. These parties were willing to give up the responsibility of forming a federal budget by giving the Bloc Quebecois a veto over the items that could have been included in it. They also formed this coalition less than 2 months after the last federal election, in which 2 out of 3 of the parties lost votes and seats. Whereas in 2005, it had been a year since the election, the government had a chance to prove itself, and all 3 opposition parties had gained votes and seats

  • I really dont support any of these highschool election antics but anyway here is how i see things. I see all three leaders on a podium, Harper Gold, Stephen Silver, and Jack with the Bronze after election results. Both of them look up at Harper, then each other, then Dion asks Jack 'wanna split gold'... this has nothin to do with the cdn people its ALL personal

  • Am I crazy or did I hear someone shout "Fire Balls Stephen" around 1:23 ? o__O

  • I heard it too.

  • The unidentified Liberal MP was shouting "firewall stephen" which is a reference to the letter Harper wrote as president of the NCC with Ralph Klien and others some years back about how Alberta was getting screwed by Canada, and should build a (metaphorical) firewall around the province to keep the feds out.

  • I'm guessing that the MP shouting "firewall Stephen" was Ralph Goodale.

  • If Dion had the much fire in his heart during the campaign he would have given Harper a run for his money! Honestly!

  • That's powerful stuff from Dion.

  • Rather Mr. Dion!

  • dion may not look like a leader, he may not sound, or act like a leader; but Dion has PASSION- the very thing that a leader needs most. He loves his country

  • So very true!

  • Dion is right, Harper should step down and stop wasting our time.

  • If Dion was more like this I would like him. This passion is necessary for Liberal confidence.

  • awesome stuff from Dion, I'm sure future generations will look back favourably towards him and what he has tried to do, no matter the outcome of this coalition stuff.

Dion loves Canada and is a true patriot.

  • truthfully i like jack. but i don't think any of them should be pm they'll will f things up. regardless. it's all going to crash either way and they're just fighting to see who can do it their way. Harper did try this with the Martin government.

seriously the system we have doesn't work which way or the other. if you have a majority too much power. if you have a minority not enough.

    we're SOL & JWF

shit out of luck and jolly well fucked.

SO SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE

  • Harper has already fucked things up. They're all idiots. I don't think anyone will do a good job. Harper has tried to bankrupt the opposition though and that's as undemocratic as it gets. He needs to be bitchslapped for that. He forced this entire mess by starting this whole dick waving competition. Get rid of him.

  • Harper is a lying , cunning, conniving manipultive scoundrel of the worst sort. He wants to destroy as much of Canadian democracy as he can.

  • All the above comments are not fair representation of smart, competent and intellectual Canadians. Rather these are comments made by misguided, emotionally charged people that just react and not based on reason or proper education. Having a coalition government with Jack Layton in a position of power (who has NO comprehension of macroeconomics) and being held ransom by the separatist party is extremely scary. All this is happening at a time of global recession. This is economic suicide.

  • Finally soon we will have a prime minster we can be proud of.

  • love Dion

    he is smart and articulate

  • Holy crap, this is the most passionately intense that I have ever seen of Dion as leader of the Liberals! Where the hell was this passionate fire of intensity in Dion prior to the last election?

  • I'm guessing after all the attacks he has received from not only the Torys and even people from his own party, he got more confident and decided to fight back? It's too bad that he didn't get more like this to begin with, and I really admired him before hand.

  • Harper and his Reform Party clowns deserve to be kicked to the curb

  • Word is the Prog. Cons. are abandoning ship on the Reform Party (er Conservative Party). They will sit as independents.

  • I'm hearing the same thing. There is a lot of buzz right now.

  • That would be awesome. I don't mind fiscal conservatism at all, I just hate social conservatism. It would be nice to see the Progressive Conservatives come back, we need a REAL alternative to the Liberals.

  • Canada voted for a government. Since Harper can't, the opposition has been forced to. It did not have to be this way. In less than 4 years Harper has managed to unite both the right AND left. Good job Steve!
