  • Great stories!

  • Who gives a healthy shit what Paul's brother thinks about any of it? As if any of their relatives have some kind of extraordinary imput. They don't. They were, by random circumstance, just there.

  • @JeffersonDinedAlone Really? I think the family dynamic is interesting.

  • @JeffersonDinedAlone

You sound as if you haven't had a healthy shit in quite some time!

  • Joe Brown and George later became very good friends and neighbors. Joe was George's best man at his wedding to Olivia. Joe also was a feature performer at the Concert For George; he did the closing number "I'll See You In My Dreams".

  • thanks for sharing this video. This was my 1st time seeing & hearing Mike McCartney speak. Paul is his big brother - hard to believe, but I can see the family resemblance & I love the Liverpool accent. I'm so glad Mike took so many cool pictures of the Beatles & of a younger Paul before the Beatles happened. What a rough, yet carefree life it was.

  • how strange is that all those famous people from the same school whats that all about

  • You mean Mike "McGear"? What a douche.

  • whats the first song ?

  • My husband and two of his brothers don't sound anything alike, either.

  • He has the same nose as Paul, hahah :')

If I saw him walking down the street, I'd probably take a second glance at him!

  • Mike looks more like his dad than paul does.

  • 1:19 And that's how those DAMN facebook pictures started! :\ (but that one is the best.)

  • His brother must expose the Paul McCartney's double and do a press conference

to show that Paul is William Campbell.....lol Before it's too late and we will think

    he's actually Paul.

  • He doesn't look anymore like Paul than that Faul guy does.

  • he doesnt sound like Paul ,, his accent seems to be more like john's

  • Paul loves that poll!!!1:43

  • He sounds like George Harrison haha

I've heard he's a good photographer but I've never seen his work

  • His photo collection will be worth mega bucks if and when he decides to sell them

  • After the "gig" ... lol He cringes upon having to use that hip term, just like I do.

  • >w< that first song!! what is it called!? it it so cute~♥

  • His eyebrows, his eyes, his lips and his chin sorta look like Paul's!

  • What a nice fellow and fine story-teller..you can tell he loves to have a laugh...you could do worse than having Paul for an older brother ; )...like being second in line to the throne.. ; )..what gets me, through all these, is the looking out for other people that Paul did, like for Julian...could be from having a little brother like Mike ; )

  • my friends uncle used to watch little richard in liverpool and he loved that song, but until he saw this video he didnt know he was in the same room with the beatles

  • Great! Especially to see these same places I've visited.

  • Awesome!!

  • great stuff. thanks for this.

  • Yep, he sounds like George Harrison!

  • why does mike mccartney have such a strong scouse accent and paul has a very slight one?? xD

  • @kaitlinan Paul moved out due to his career with the beatles. Mike stayed. And in truth, The Beatles did try to polish up their accents a bit, enough to be understandable to the rest of Britain and the world. I read somewhere that once when he got back home to Forthlin late at night after a telly stint, Mike told him the show was great, but asked "Why do you talk like that on telly? You sounded like George gone wrong!!" Paul replied: I know that, and you know that... but THEY don´t!

  • @CuteMcBeauty oh? Interesting. :) I heard Paul's mother made him talk in a 'higher class' accent when he was young

  • @kaitlinan Yeah heheheh, that's also true but Paul and Mike took no heed. :) I actually read that bit from Mike McCartney's book "The Macs". It tells about the first telly presentation, where the Beatles first wore the velvet collar suits and Mike had to watch the show from the local pub.

  • Pst, is dad asleep?-Course he is, it's past 2!-We were celebrating. did you watch?-Yeah, it was gear! Had to watch it at the pub!-Could you see the velvet collars?- I saw it all. But why did you talk like that on telly? You sounded like George gone wrong, you don't talk like that!-I know that, you know that, but THEY don't know that. - Monkey suit and phoney accents? It worked, it was fantastic! - Gear! I'll be off then nite nite. -Night brother...psst, Paul, can I have your autograph?- Sod off.

  • @CuteMcBeauty He said "nite nite?" I don't feel ashamed anymore for saying that!! :D

  • This is sooooooooooooooo cool ty ty ty!!!!!!!

  • I do believe Mike McCartney is a wonderful photographer and story teller

  • Pleas stop with that stupid stuff that "Paul" is not "Paul" That's rubbish

  • all the mccartneys were murdered & replaced with lookalikes so they wouldn't spill the beans when paul died in that car crash.also all his uncles, aunties & cousins were as well i think the death toll is 3006 & rising but they had to make sure it stayed a secret

  • @manc1962 It looks like all of the photos pf Paul in the video have been elongated! Anyone who doubts that, if you find the originals you will find the original Paul has a round face, not a long face. The Pauls after 1967 all had long faces.

  • That was a very interesting clip. Thanks for posting it.

  • It's funny -- the tone of his voice and his accent actually sound like George. But every once in awhile his inflection sounds exactly like Paul

  • u RHINE. i really like the way he says that

  • I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mike. He was so down to earth, and so nice. He actually took my glasses off and put them on, and someone snapped a photo, which I still have, of course. He signed a Lennon pic for me (the Statue of Liberty photo) and inscribed it "to Tim...Friend of John." I walked away feeling I knew him my entire life and wanted to go and have a Guinness with him. Good people, the McCartneys.

  • @tmac052558 Thanks for that story. :) That's exactly how I remember Mike from meeting him 20 odd years ago. I've got a picture of me kissing him on the cheek (I asked first!). He didn't mind. :)

And let me take this opportunity to say 'Merry Christmas, Mike'! :)

And a very merry X-mas to everyone, of course. :)

  • @JaneFokster thats so great! It would be great to meet him. yall make him sound so nice :D

and you to kiss a McCartney lol

  • 7:30 LOL!

  • In the late 80's, Mike was on Larry King's show to promote his book of photographs. Larry asked him "Are you close to your brother"? Mike got this real sad look on his face and said "Unfortunately.....yes." That was a great example of rough Liverpool humour. I'm sure Paul got a great kick out of it. Paul and Mike were and are still very close. Mike was also very close with Linda, because their mutual love of photography.

  • I read Mike McGears biography years ago and he tells a story of recording an album and Paul producing it, Jimmy Hendricks came in and laid out a wickedly great guitar solo but Mike didn't understand how great it was and asked for additional takes...everyone said that the first take was the one...by the time he agreed they had taped over it...oops...

  • would you give that brother 1/2 or a few mill to shut the fk up

  • He kinda sound like John, dunno why lol =)

  • Welcome in the family !!

  • i don't see the resemblance at all lol

  • @ShowCaseProductions Me neither! xD

  • @ShowCaseProductions well i think with the nose

  • so then i noticed one day in 66', my brother wasn't acting the same. he sounded like a robot... something had to be wrong with dear old paul. A couple years later I read the magazines. My brother died and me mum never told me.

  • @quidnick dudethat's not funny at all you must be one of those sychophants who believe that 'Paul is dead myth'.

  • @quidnick Paul is live :)

  • Where's the clip taken from, Jane?

  • @spikepedestal

It's from the BBC's 'Daytime Live' show with Pamela Armstrong, which aired in 1987 and 1988. Can't remember much else about it. I just recorderd this little clip at the time. I used to always have my vcr standby just in case there was something about the Beatles on tv and that's how I got this. :)

  • I think ur work is very artsy.Beautiful.Keep em comeing mike.

  • Maybe better known as Mike McGear.

  • I don't know how I would feel being Paul's brother...

  • I remember The Scaffold very well and how very handsome Mike was when he was young.

  • Ahhhh baby brother Mike!!! Every bit as interesting as the whole beatles myth!! Thanks for this upload!!!

  • To me his voice actually sounds more like George's than Paul's.

  • This is very very interesting. Every photo tells a story.

  • Thank you

  • I wonder what would have happened if Mike went into the music business...

  • @grim107

He did. He was in The Scaffold. :)

  • @JaneFokster Strange. I've never heard of them. I assume they didn't make it big? It must be hard to be Paul's brother and not get big in the business.

  • @grim107: Well, The Scaffold were a kind of musical comedy group and they actually had a few BIG hits in the UK in the late 60s. Including 'Thank U Very Much' (which Mike McCartney wrote) in 1967 and 'Lily The Pink' (a traditional) in 1968. Both songs are still pretty well known today as 'golden oldies'. And they are on YouTube, so have a listen. You may have heard them before without realizing Paul McCartney's brother was in the band. ;-)

  • @grim107 Mike actually called himself 'Mike McGear' while he was in the Scaffold. Probably because the name McCartney was also a bit of a burden going into the music business.

  • mike took some of the best photos of the beatles , and if it had not been for him then a lot of the beatles early history would have been lost

  • Great video, it's nice to see early behind the scenes photos and hear stories. Thanks Mike!

  • How tall is Mike? He seems to be a couple inches taller than his older brother.

  • "Ringo" fans.... In honor of Ringo's 70th, I hope U will check out my "RINGO"video. It's very retro with Beatleish touches & was done as a labor of love and with the utmost respect for the Fabs. My attempt at putting a little bit of the Beatle spirit out there for Beatle fans. It's also my tribute to George Harrison's slide playing as well as Ringo's unique style.

    Peace,

Vinnie Zummo, former Joe Jackson guitarist

  • Great stuff Michael thanks. Boy you sure did have a front row seat to greatness eh?

  • Actually I should rephrase my question.

Could some Liverpudlian please explain to me " in Layman's Term", what he just said from 2:53 thru 3:12 in plain simple English???

  • Great brother !!! And funny too..............

  • Could some Liverpoodlian please explain to me what he just said from 2:53 thru 3:12 in plain simple English???

  • @beerborn I'm not a Liverpudlian either, but it's something like this: "It was from the upper yard smokers corner, we used to lob brown paper water bombs down on to the lower yard kids, and masters and prefects. And then get ????? and get smacked bums. I narrowly missed Derek Hatton, but I certainly got newca....NEWScaster no less, Peter Scissons!"

Maybe someone else can fill in the last missing words. :P

  • @JaneFokster He said "and then get taken to the head and..." where you have ?????.

Beerborn, basically, he used to throw waterbombs at the schoolmasters (teachers) and prefects (The really good kids who were given some authority like being a hall monitor). Then he'd get taken to the head, short for headmaster, which is like a principal, and get hit for doing it.

  • @JaneFokster It was from the upper yard, smokers corner, we used to lob brown paper water bombs down on to the lower yard kids, and masters and prefects. And then get taken to the head and get smacked bums. I narrowly missed Derek Hatton, but I certainly got newca....NEWScaster no less, Peter Scissons!"

  • @JaneFokster I think he says: And then get things at their heads and get smacked bums.

  • @JaneFokster I think he says: And then get things at their heads and get...etc

  • @JaneFokster ????? = "and get taken to the head[master]"

  • @beerborn I THINK he said ".... and we would get taken to the head ( Bathroom ) and get smacked bums. "

  • @beerborn 'and then get taken to the head' ie headmaster. Trust me that is not a strong liverpool (scouse) accent. If you want to hear a hard core liverpool accent youtube 'Yosser Hughes' or 'Ricky Tomlinson'

  • @beerborn I am from Liverpool. To complete Jane Fokster's excellent work, here are the missing words:

"...And then get taken to the head and...", 'head' in this context being short for headmaster, or in American English, a principal. Derek Hatton went on to become Liverpool City Council's deputy leader and Peter Sissons became a long-serving BBC newsreader and political presenter. For what it's worth, my father went to the same school as Paul + George but was the same age as John/Stuart/Ringo.

  • @beerborn

in american english, he's saying they used to throw wet paper balls(kinda like spitballs) down at the schoolkids, and then get spanked(smacked bums) for punishment.

  • Excellent video - so glad I happened upon this. Always wondered about Paul's brother. Does he live in Liverpool? Wish I knew more about Paul's family - his father and mother before she passed away. GREAT picture of a very young Paul at 2:11 !!!! He hasn't changed much!

  • God this is soo friggin interesting, lol. He looks nothing like Paul though.Did they have milkmen in those days?Hahahahaha!

  • site orquidhea no youtube

  • He looks like Davy Jones talks like im too

  • No he dosen"t you"re full of shit.

  • @unrealvariety dude w're all full of shit, or didn't you notice.....I am entitled to my opinion, he looks like Davy Jones.........Have you seen what Davy Jones looks like now?

  • I'm really diggin this. I'm a huge Beatles and Paul fan, so this is really cool to see. I'm going to see Ken Mansfield Tomorrow. Ken worked at Capitol Records and also Apple Corps, and is on the roof top at the Let It Be filming. I cant wait to hear his stories. Thanks for posting this.

  • Lol, Paul blew up a hotdog stand.

  • I happen to know Mike personally and I can tell you this - he is definitely NOT gay, and he is one funny, amusing, guy! He will take time to talk to anyone and always likes to share an amusing anecdote or two.

  • @p1ppl I've never met him, but from the interviews I've seen, Mike seems like a great guy with a wicked sense of humor. He never seemed resentful of his brother's success. And from all accounts he is still very close to Paul - he's been Paul's best man three times!

  • @p1ppl I interviewed Mike for a magazine some years ago - he was a total gentleman!!!!*****

  • what a pleasant fellow

  • Wow. This is great. Just great.

  • His complexion seems lighter than Paul's, and he has more prominent teeth.

  • is pauls brother gay?

  • @jimpurdie No evidence of that. He's been married twice and has 6 kids, three by each marriage. I think, if he were gay, he'd have come out a long time ago. I can't imagine it would have made any difference to his brother.

  • Paul's brother kind of sounds like George on the overdub bits.

  • @tintindwarf - wow, you are so right ... very similar!

  • He doesn't refer to himself as Mike McGear anymore?

  • He looks very different that Paul McCartney. I know he has a brother, and I've seen pictures from when he was young, but I would not have recognized him.

Paul looks a lot like his father, but Mike must have his mother's looks then.

  • their eyes are similiar

  • That was great. I read his autobiography years ago. He's an interesting person in his own right, and not to take anything away from him but it certainly helped to be in on the ground floor when history is being made. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow, me a baby boomer and I didn't know about him. We probably read about it at the time (all the news had everything you can think of to read about Beatles and Stones:) but I forgot. Really cool.

  • Comment removed

  • Not Pauls brother? You mean another McCartney mystery next to the 'Paul Is Dead' rumour? :P

But seriously... obviously this is the one and only Mike McCartney. I had the pleasure of meeting him twice briefly and he's a very, very nice man.

  • he really doesnt look much like Paul...but his mannerisms and speech are almost dead on like him...very cool vid...thanks for the post.

  • @NonStopRocker I was thinking the same thing. The way he talks and his body movement is just like Paul. Definately a good post!!!

  • great info.great video,great history and great comments.thank u very moch.

  • I think mikes shots are as good as anything I have seen in the vintage life magazines and other well known photo-journ mags of the time

  • I didnt' know Paul had a brother. Very interesting video. This fellow would have been part of it all , at least by relation.

  • I wonder how many women dated him just because he was Paul's brother...

  • to katie: ill bet he got quite a few dates being pauls brother.....but....he seems like he was a pretty cool dude in his own right

  • He sure does! He seems like a wonderful, down-to-earth man :)

  • DID YOU KNOW.....that Paul and Mike McCartney actually made an album together....songs of Mike, paul & mike collaboration? It was called "McGear". Mike went under the name Mike McGear because he did not want the album to be a success just because he was pauls brother. Although it was a total commercial flop it was not due to lack of good songs. Personally I liked it very much. On most of the songs you could not distinguish Paul from mikes voice. I'll bet you could find the cassette tape on ebay

  • He could be the fifth beatle, why not....

  • I don't think living in Pauls shadow was so bad it sounds like he was having a great time

  • He wrote a very sharp (as in witty) book in the early 80s called "Mike Mc Cartney's Family Album"

  • Ooooh, I love that book!!

(why was this marked as spam?! It's the truth!)

  • It is true because I bought it almost about 25 years ago

  • It would be SO hard to be Paul's brother. He's had one triamph after the other for the last 50 years!!! He's like... THE living legend. Talk about living in a shadow! =(

And yeah, he DOES sound like George!!

  • HE SOUNDS LIKE GEORGE AND JOHN XD

  • @iLoveJbMcFlYTakeThat exactly what i was thinking!!

  • @iLoveJbMcFlYTakeThat yes lovely thick scouse accent

  • He sounds more like George :)

  • Mike doesn't look or sound much like Paul, but has the same way of story telling. :)

  • It's amazing to me how he looks nothing like Paul whatsoever. Usually siblings look at least a little alike. He really really really looks like his dad.

  • Ha i remember them green and cream buses in Liverpool, those were the days.

  • man this guy sounds JUST LIKE George H.

  • @brokenseatbelt

    Wow. You weren't kidding!

  • @brokenseatbelt I agree, when I was listening I thought how much he sounds like George Harrison.

  • it must be tough when being the brother of one of the most important musicians in the world

  • @kurtcobain628

Look at him walking down the street at around 2:17. Think about how many people he passed that had no idea that he was Paul McCartney's brother. He was just "some guy".

  • i know that sucks do you know if he died

  • Mike is still alive and well.

  • Prove your statement or shut up.

  • It was a joke people, my god where's the british humour gone? Oh, I forgot, most people here on youtube are Americans! X)

  • Your forgiven and your right ,I ain't Brit..

  • I see Brother Michael-but where's Auntie Gin?

So I can open the door-Let "Em In".

  • The song is Do you remember by the Scaffold, Mike McGear/McCartney's group.Great song, its on there greatest hits CD

  • anyone no the song at the begining of the video

  • He sounds just like George Harrison!

  • I think it is George Harrison narrating the video

    from the great beyond...lol

  • Does anyone know if Mike is left handed like Paul ? It looks like Mikes eyes are blue. I may be wrong.

  • I agree with everyone who wrote that Mike sounds like George Harrison. Been a fan for yrs. He's sure is a cutie .I'd date him over Paul anytime.

  • WOW!! Love it Mike!!Thanks!

  • I've seen most of those photos before but I no idea they were taken by Paul's brother Mike.

  • I can see a lot of his brother in him. They both have the soft-spoken, kind and humble way about them. I've loved Mike's "Remember" book and claimed it as a true favorite for years. It's so wonderful to finally see him in a video and hear him speak the words I've read so many times. :)

  • aaaaah, loved watching this.

  • His voice sounds quite like George Harrison out of all the Beatles when you just hear his voiceover

  • it's surprising

  • I was just thinking how much he sounds like George

  • I met Mike in Glasgow doing one of his photographic shows in January 09 - Good guy and his contribution was immense

  • I had an interesting chat with Cavern Dj Bob Wooler, back in 1995.

He mentioned the stink of the Cavern - cigarettes, BO, toilets and diinfectant.

He told me he gave up doing Beatles conventions when he saw the shutters coming down over Japanese fans' eyes when he told them the unpleasant truth of the early days

  • Great video.

The anecdotes were top notch and the pictures certainly add a little something more to the Beatles story.

  • Seems very nice person...Like a poet or something...

  • That was so cool. Mike captured very personal moments. He doesn't give himself the credit he should. it is always great to see pictures that you haven't seen of the group before..THANKS

  • I enjoyed that :~)

  • great flicks Mike !!

  • what's the song in the beginning?

  • Is Paul older?

  • Yeah, Paul's about two years older. :)

  • Met Mike a few years back. Lovely guy and a great photographer

  • Great video! And great history. Many thanks.
