  • Good sweet lord! She is adorable!

  • She's awesome. Great voice, great stage presence, and damn cute.

  • Seinfeld much?

  • notice how peggy reminds powell to say his lines in intro.

  • Peggy Mann is just darling here. She was a very strong singer in all aspects, the one career problem being she was a utility player who didn't have a distinctive voice or style. If a singer doesn't have an instantly identifiable voice and style a big record career is unlikely.

  • song originally sung by Les Brown

  • @asr8805 Correction--song orginally recorded by Les Brown & His Orchestra (later known as "Les Brown & His Band of Renown), August 9, 1941 on Columbia Records, New York City; vocalist: Betty Bonney.

The version in this video here is from a "soundie," a 16mm film with an optical soundtrack, originally displayed via a self-contained, coin-operated jukebox with a built-in, rear projection device and mirrors, displayed on an opaque glass screen in entertainment establishments..

  • @asr8805 This "video" version of "Joltin' Joe DiMaggio," by the Teddy Powell Orchestra, with vocalist Peggy Mann, Tommy Taylor, and the song's co-author, disc jockey Alan Courtney, was released shortly after the more well-known version by Les Brown with Betty Bonney; the "soundies" intended originally for display in establishments of public accomodation, i.e.--amusement parks, bars, nightclubs, taverns.

You are correct about the Les Brown connection, just that the singer was Betty Bonney.

  • ¡Qué hermosa voz!
