Great vocals on this one but he undone a lot of his rocking by doing this song. Wal-Mart used to play this on their in store radio station during the Christmas season. Nice voice, but frankly it lacks something. I had to fast forward it, hunting doe the something extra ... (Like grunge??) but I didn't find it. Sorry. It didn't do it for me.

Chris Cornell is one of my favourite artists. Ave Maria is one of my favourite musical pieces. The combination of these two wonderful things should be a crowning moment of awesome, but it appears that where a long int should've been used to store the awesome, a simple short int was lazily issued instead. Thus, the awesome was too much, and wrapped around into terrible tragedy. This is simply awful and his producer should be shot.

As a classically trained singer, I don't see what all the hooplah is about Cornell's cover. His pronunciation is terrible-you can barely tell what language it's in, his diction is faulty-I can't tell where one word ends and the other begins, and although it's nice to have some non-chord tones in one's singing, Cornell is just flat-out, well...flat a lot of the time.. I hear nothing impressive here.

Whether you think it's a cop out or not is irrelevant, entertainment is subjective, period. I agree, this version of Ave Maria doesn't hold a candle to say Luciano Pavarotti, but it certainly has a right to exist and be appreciated by those who do enjoy it. Your criticisms would be fine if you didn't pose them as fact.

They have cemented their place in the music universe with their unique sound, I'll give them that but by no means does that give Cornell the option of tackling such a gorgeous piece of music, written by Gounod and Schubert, and performed by the greats of Callas and Pavarotti. He has a rock voice and without the proper training , he should stick to singing rock music and leave the classically trained singers to the classical music.
