  • In my opinion, the most talented male vocalist of my generation. Everyone can recognize it as 'Ave Maria', and anyone familiar with Chris Cornell can recognize it as his 'flavour', so to speak. Even if you don't like it, that automatically makes it a good cover. From The Shemps to now, I was, am, and will always be a Cornell fan.

  • now he needs to do hallelujah

  • Cornell = God

  • <3

  • Angel.

  • wow.. this sounds way better if you're worshiping Ashtar or & Baal instead of marry & jesus

  • Karaoke-ish accompanying music aside, Mr. Chris Cornell's rendition is hands down, right up there on my list of the best artists of our time. He can no longer be typecasted as simply a rock music icon now.

  • great voice, but not approprite for some songs

  • @starran90210 It's a bit rough compared to other covers but it's his voice, what's he gonna do about it? God gave him a talent and he's using it. You don't have to like it but that doesn't mean he can't sing anything he wants.

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting.

  • Impressive. A true artist.

  • Soy fan de este hombre como rockero is the best!!pero vamos...esta no ha sido su mejor canción,que parece cantada con 8 copas de más xD

  • This man can do it all!!!!

  • Great vocals on this one but he undone a lot of his rocking by doing this song. Wal-Mart used to play this on their in store radio station during the Christmas season. I won 50 bucks from a friend who didn't think this was Chris singing....LOL I figured any true Soundgarden fan wouldn't mistake his voice...maybe it was denial????????

  • This dude could make "Marry had a little lamb" sound cool.

  • MARIA melt if you listen to the voice of chris ... just a man

  • goose bump that shit yo

  • just had flashbacks of a certain bald man's would-be funeral...

  • @ TheSandsie13.....Chris is singing in English, not Latin.

  • This version makes me believe in God.

  • @Metalhaid to me ... he is voice god´s

  • He kinda ruined this song for me. He took the christmas out of the song and jumped on it.

  • @SintFisk You really have a bad taste then.

  • @SintFisk -

AVE MARIA WAS NEVER A CHRISTMAS SONG -

MY 2 CENTS - HALF WAY DECENT VOCALLY, BUT WHAT IS THE CIRCUS GOING ON IN THE BACKGROUND - SOUNDS LIKE HE WENT TO HELL TO RECORD IT.

  • i think what surprises most people is that singers like chris can actually sing. and (in this case ) sing in latin. i love hearing chris' voice sing the tough songs like this.

  • I would so marry him

  • Chris Cornell is an Orthodox Christian, by the way.

  • This is my funeral song

  • Chris Cornell me convenceu a ir a missa!!!

  • GOD, HIS VOICE IS SOOO SENSUAL! NEVER HEARD HIM BEFORE.

  • @missdawn2011 he is the lead singer of audio slave and sound garden

  • @theycallemerhys si el mejor entre los mejores...

  • I LOVE THIS VERSION!!!!

  • Simply amazing.

  • I love his vocals, always have but... ~sniffs~ ...the music is a bit... ~sniffs again~ ...hmm... do you smell something burning..? ~runs away screaming and on fire~

  • I prefer the GWAR version of "Ave Maria" myself.

  • I am SO proud of myself cause I can hold the notes as long as he can!!!! :D NO JOKE!

  • dude...like wtf???

  • @Metalshad0 He's a vocalist, a well-rounded musician. True musicians appreciate all realms of music....to answer your "wtf"

  • @bhabeney

    basically.

Chris Cornell might be the best rock singer of all time because he is really soul ... he sings from the gut. There is no label for that he just is artist.

  • @bhabeney Amen. I'm not a musician but I don't understand why people have to be stuck with a singular label. If a song moves you it shouldn't matter what "type" of music it is. Just enjoy it.

  • AWESOME!!!!! GOOSEBUMPS!!!!!

  • This guy is incredible, but this is crap.

  • I don't get it. "Jesus Christ Pose", "Holy Water" and then this?? wtf

  • @benniEnchufa He did this a long time ago for a charity album. It's a good version of this song

  • @benniEnchufa whats ur "wtf" for?

  • <<-- makes the sign of the cross :P

  • Beautiful though

  • The music I'll never listen in my wedding because I'll never marry

  • sounds nice! i like that he alway sounds kinda drunk, but thats style, his style XD

  • going to this song until xmas day!

  • i wish the arrangement was a bit better

  • a very special christmas 3... best christmas cd ever.

  • I closed my eyes, and I became a conductor, I saw him on his knees, and ballerinas scurrying in white, chiffon and then she comes from her window to meet him in the courtyard and they do a few twirls and then they kiss. This was beautiful and so is he!

  • what is this song from?!

  • @11anonomys do some research and you'll find out.

  • @hokealaska2009 gee thanks ;)

  • Maybe if there was a different background...

  • Drum is distractingly awful. Love Chris' voice though

  • Yeah, - nah...

  • not impressed with the composition of this piece, they butchered it. Loss the power of the song itself with their own egos of making music.

Super talented but this is hi=orrible

    .

  • If only he sang it a few octaves higher, I know He could

  • Hmm. I stumbled on this. Played it twice. The first time I had to stop it, but I read all the comments here and thought 'I must have missed something'. So I gave it a go a second time. Nice voice, but frankly it lacks something. I had to fast forward it, hunting doe the something extra ... (Like grunge??) but I didn't find it. Sorry. It didn't do it for me.

  • @vltimatefightr I really like it, but I think I like it mainly in the context of Cornell's other work, like Audioslave - it's the powerful, half-wild voice I'm used to hearing in those dark, compelling rock songs turned to an aria like this that gives it the "something extra". Perhaps that's what's missing for you?

  • GRANDIOSO!

  • Awesome. This is the kinda shit the pope would headbang to.

  • @Supermonkey1977 LOLOL

  • im kinda in love with the top comment on this

  • He must be a fallen angel ... that's why!!!

  • @Jayne93 what's ironic about it? if anyone has a "divine" voice and knows where it comes from, it's chris cornell.

  • Tomara que estejas em um lugar muito melhor do que esta merda chamada Terra!!!

  • Redenção !!!

  • i will be playing this at my wedding

  • I let my mother who is 80 listen to this...but kept a secret who it was...she asked me to make her a cd of this mans music because it was amazing....LOL sorry mom....cant do that....Chris..you need to make more like this..your voice is amazing....and not just for 80 yo...for 30 yo as well.

  • He is like Brandon Boyd of Incubus...just true talent.

  • @crazylyma He is better.

  • what a bloody mess

  • i would go to church every day if he was in the choir.... man he has a true voice that needs no computer technology to help him out like so many others do.... he just doesnt get enough credit for the golden voice he posses

  • @PAULAMICHELLELANGLEY too true bro...

  • Cornell's vocal cords were made with ChUCK Norris's beard

  • This man is THE MAN!

  • If Chris Cornell was singing in church, I would be there daily.

  • Blows my mind !

  • CANTANDO DE TODO ESTE HOMBRE ES SEXY

  • Fkin love it when he sings he sounds so laid back with it :OOOO

  • what year would this have been recorded? Right around his Euphoria Morning album?

  • Comment removed

  • I really like it, Chriss had the guts to sing this incredible song adding his own style and it really worked to me, congratulations from Spain!

  • If this isn't a voice from G-d... it's surely one of the Archangels!

  • Love this music and with Chris is perfect!

  • Chris Cornell is one of my favourite artists. Ave Maria is one of my favourite musical pieces. The combination of these two wonderful things should be a crowning moment of awesome, but it appears that where a long int should've been used to store the awesome, a simple short int was lazily issued instead. Thus, the awesome was too much, and wrapped around into terrible tragedy. This is simply awful and his producer should be shot.

  • Farrell, I appreciate the reply; however, I'm not a kid. I've been listening to both these guys since they started. I know the whole story with Vedder's start and Mother Love Bone and TotD. I love Conell's music, and nowhere did I state otherwise. I'm simply stating imho who consistently creates the better music, an opinion I'm entitiled to without being corrected on it. I enjoy both their music.

  • Cornell is awesome. He's just good enough to be Vedder's waterboy.

  • @doubletreemutt there is no comparison between vedder and cornell. I have asked eddie the same question and he humbly noted that a big reason pearl jam became huge was the Temple of the Dog album of which Cornell sang all and Wrote most of. After that Pearl Jam BECAME. Just check out the way eddie graciously adores chris when they sing hunger strike in LA

  • Comment removed

  • ROFL!!! Vedder doesn't hold a candle to Cornell. Cornell is in a league of his own. Nobody comes close except perhaps Groban or Erna.

  • TheFringeBenefit1 I don't think Brandon Boyd of Incubus needs mentoring.

  • The quality of his orchestral samples make it sound like a gameboy game.

  • is this the song from Grown Ups?

  • @LPlomejor1 no, it is one of the most famous songs ever. usually its done in Italian. it has been used in a bunch of movies tho, and been covered by many artists. pavarati the cranberries etc.

  • Chris Cornell + Franz Schubert = F***IN AWESOME !!!!!

  • Czyste piękno dla wszystkich, którzy słyszą :)

  • este creis corneli si es completo,,,a la mierda los requetones

  • i think chris cornell should mentor brandon boyd from incubus...they have similiar rosonances... anybody?

  • pięknie

  • Na moim ślubie śpiewał ktoś inny...JAK BOGA KOCHAM- SZKODA! ;))

  • ecco..posso sopportarla solo perchè la canta lui <3

  • Cornell; perfect in everything.. :)

  • Perfection

  • excelent...!

  • I mean.....wow,wow,wow,wow,wow,wow....lol...what can do with that but be stunned by the amazing god gifted voice?...

  • I like how versatile he is in his choice of music. He's playful like that, from M.J's Billie Jean to Ave Maria and Beatles and everything in between.

  • PERFECT (:

  • He's such a perfect man.

  • @ edification... thank you! who could ever dislike this song?! #1 is a seriously beautiful song no matter who sings it and a huge #2 its frickin chris cornell!

  • again i have found magic in a voice.

  • HERMOSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In this Song His Voice is so Clear, Not like in other songs :)))

  • this gave me chills.

  • the Golden Throat

  • Chris Cornell - This man is my Rock God.

  • Thumbs up if your heart just cried molten gold into your soul at the sound of this song.

  • this is significant unlike justin bieber..

  • The best I've heard in years!!!!!

  • One of the greatest artist of our time.... A Work of Art...

  • One of the greatest artist of our time....

  • Let's hear miley crius and justin beeber sing like this.... ain't ever going to happen... They lack one thing....... TALENT!

  • @okiejoeDRUNKENMONKEY If you split the name timberlake you get timber-lake, the latter means loser in my country :))) A true name for his value

  • @okiejoeDRUNKENMONKEY it'll happen in the same universe where the Chevy Chase Show was a hit.

  • @okiejoeDRUNKENMONKEY Or actually lets not hear them do this. Or anything! Ever again! lol

  • I think he' done quite well dispite the fact that he can't really sing in Latin... But still... for an american guy he's done a great job.

  • God Love This .

  • As a classically trained singer, I don't see what all the hooplah is about Cornell's cover. His pronunciation is terrible-you can barely tell what language it's in, his diction is faulty-I can't tell where one word ends and the other begins, and although it's nice to have some non-chord tones in one's singing, Cornell is just flat-out, well...flat a lot of the time.. I hear nothing impressive here.

  • @sammyboi11890 View it for what it is, a way to get those interested mainly in Rock, Metal and the likes to listen to something else. That's what is impressive here.

  • @kaynetkh Again, I disagree due to experience. I have a love and passion for both classical music and progressive rock and metal and I never needed a bridge. If you need to be essentially be forced to try something new, you won't like it. you need to already have that curiosity. Someone below mentioned that they like this version better than Pavarotti's version and I find that preposterous. I give Cornell props for trying something new but it fell short. Those who prefer a rock singer attempting

  • @kaynetkh pg 2. to sing a beautiful classical song over someone with years of classical training doing an accurate and beautiful interpretation of an equally beautiful classic song should probably stay as far away from classical music and it's beauty as possible, as to not demean or belittle it. That's not to say that there haven't been any successful bridges between classical music and metal. Like i said before, I have a love for both so when I hear a band like Protest The Hero or The Human

  • @kaynetkh Abstract so perfectly implement classical techniques and musicianship into their music, making it not only unique, but beautiful, it really melts my heart. Unfortunately, my heart is nowhere near melted, hearing Chris Cornell singing Ave Maria. Lara Fabian, Maria Callas, and Luciano Pavarotti will forever trump Cornell's quote-unquote "rendition" of this song.

  • @sammyboi11890 Subjectivity is the beauty of music my friend. :)

  • @kaostra That's the biggest cop out when it comes to music fandom. Subjectivity isn't the beauty of music. Subjectivity is the thorn in the side of music. there are thousands of subpar musicians claiming to be artists, using "well, it's all subjective" as their only defense. Music isn't about being subjective. Music is about being so talented, passionate, and respectful , that you don't need to be subjective. I have nothing against Cornell. I Enjoy Soundgarden and I enjoy Audioslave. Do I think

  • @sammyboi11890 The problem is there is no way to objectively judge music, perhaps with the exception of the actual quality of the audio (encoding and such). Whether you think it's a cop out or not is irrelevant, entertainment is subjective, period. I agree, this version of Ave Maria doesn't hold a candle to say Luciano Pavarotti, but it certainly has a right to exist and be appreciated by those who do enjoy it. Your criticisms would be fine if you didn't pose them as fact.

  • @kaostra And I'll give you that. This has every right to exist. Like I said before, I give major props to Cornell for tackling this piece. It's a beautiful piece.

  • @sammyboi11890 I wouldn't say that subjectivity is the thorn in the side of music. It's just that people are freaking abusing it nowadays

  • @kaostra that they're the best bands in the world? not hardly. They have cemented their place in the music universe with their unique sound, I'll give them that but by no means does that give Cornell the option of tackling such a gorgeous piece of music, written by Gounod and Schubert, and performed by the greats of Callas and Pavarotti. He has a rock voice and without the proper training , he should stick to singing rock music and leave the classically trained singers to the classical music.

  • I thought pavarotti's version was good.... till i heard this.

fuck... i need to stop, tears are forming... but i must keep listening. god i love this

  • Natasha sound great,Zemlya ei' puhom! That was Criss with Eleven, what a band, his one and only!!

  • Natasha sound great,Zemlya ei' puhom! That was Criss with Eleven, what a band, hes one and only!!
