  • Thanks for sharing this great song that I haven't heard in years. In 1959 when it came out my older sister starting going steady in a high school with a football player named Jimmy and she sang this all the time. They got married in 1962 and raised 2 children. Jimmy passed away in 1987 and they had their goodbye then.

  • JUST MISSED!!! "Goodbye, Jimmy, Goodbye" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 14 weeks in the Top 100 in 1959!!!

  • Goodbye "Jimmy" goodbye.....I'll see you again, but I don't know when......

  • this song bring me good feelings... remembering some old times...

  • Peaked at #9 on CKWX 1130 AM pop radio in Vancouver in May 1959

"Wheels are clickin' their way down the track

Countin' the days till he's comin' back..."

"...When he has traveled the land and the sea,

He'll stop his wand'rin' and come home to me..."

    Although a song about parting,

in each verse the singer is confident Jimmy will someday return.

  • It is not only melody that has disappeared from modern songs---it's the feelings and emotions of real love and tenderness expressed in this song and the voice of this singer that we no longer hear. It is too bad.

  • and where are u from?

  • I was 14 and he was 15. It broke our hearts when I moved. I still think of him

  • well,i am jimmy.yet, all the sadness come to me this morning,i miss those old times.

  • Oh my God, I have been dancing to this in 1957-1958. And now all those beautiful girls

pop up, just like that. Today my heartache just thinking of my youth. Now I am in my

70Th year, I wish my back to that time, just for a little while please my lord.

  • Oh dear, bring out the crying towel. I wonder just how many a young girl sobbed over this song back in the doowop era...I didn't & I couldn't. There are tear jerkers that could hit me like a bullit if the timing is right. If I were to lose my best friend, a song this is a no show, but play "Since I Don't Have You", by the Skyliners,"And the Heaven's Cried" by Ronnie Savoy or even 'Take Good Care of my Baby' by Bobby Vee could set the wheels in motion & believe me, I'm able to cry. THX

  • Oh My God...My 2 older sisters would play this to me and I would cry "I don't want them to say goodbye to me!" They have such fond memories of me at 3-4 years old

  • I listened this song in 1959, when I was under training at Royal Navy Air Base,

Arbroath in Soctland. It has brought back all the memories. Wish those days could come back.

  • Golden Memories

    Ciao...Mike

  • Thank you for posting this song. I 've missed it for decades. I know that there was a British version at the same time and was popular in England and Asia. Do any one have this version on hand. Please share it with us. Thank you!

  • Wonderful song. I think you mean the Ruby Murray version, it's here on YT search for it under "ILoveJenni47"

  • I remember hearing it on TV 50 years ago. I was 4 years old, and yes, it made me cry.

  • WOW... I'm 54 and I woke up this morning thinking of this song for some reason. My name is Jimmy and when I was about 5 I always thought

it was about me... It made me cry too! ., when I was little! AMAZING!

  • My dad has been searching for this song for about 50 years.

    Thank you.

  • My beautiful cousin Kathy. She is such a beautiful person and lives in California now. She is from New Jersey originally and one of the sweetest girls I have ever known. I miss you Kathy. I hope to get out to the west coast to see you, Love Madeline JR.

Please send me a message if you read this......

  • this was a hit in 1959.. not 1961

  • big hit in the uk for ruby murray

  • Has anybody got a message to jimmy? If you have put it up please.

  • I remember this song from 1961~ so lovely

  • 1961... ...a bitter divorce, I was 12 or so. Headed off to oblivion, my mom and her love. We left one snowcast, wind strewn day. ... ... headed to nowhere, ...only to escape. That song was on the radio. My father's name was Jimmy, and my Mom was saying goodbye. After a time, she couldn't listen. How fleeting, truly, are our lives. What poetry, tragic and joyous, we each contain. Thankyou God, for the love and the sweetness of life you have given me, the rest but dust in the wind. JS

  • this is my favorite recording , thanks for posting
