@Combtarm They have not improved, they have abonded their tactical RPG roots and became nothing more then Oblivion with guns.(Though New Vegas did bring back gameplay elements from Fallout 2, for that it has my thanks.)

I just ordered Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics for PC all on one DVD, i hope these don't suffer the chronic freezing and compatability issues that the infamous Fallout 3 and New Vegas suffer. $88 spent on New Vegas with it's limited exp, perks and chronic freezing, compared to $9 spent for 3 Classic RPG games... The new ones are great and addictive, but IMO, not worth it with the bugs and problems and lack of continuous play (unless you want to buy the still overpriced and buggy GOTY edition).

I wanted to give it a chance since I loved Fallout 3, thought I should go back and try the classics. Anyway I'm in the first temple and there's a locked door... and I feel retarded because I don't know how to pick the lock...
Fallout 2 sold something like 200000 copies, whereas New Vegas is selling what, 5 million? Quite different business today. I hope at least few of you kids out there try and fall in love with old Fallouts. I didn't care about how good the graphics were when I was teenager, I played really old games too if they were good. I guess it's possible for some teens to think that way today too.

For Bethesda: VATS sucked, I don't even know what it's supposed to represent (perhaps the limbs targeting system of FO1-2), FPS sucked (srsly sucked), bring in the tactical feels. Though we can just put both in, then those who wanted turn-based (me) can turn off FPS-mode and vice-versa.

Okay. That's a more reasonable statement, I agree. Nowadays most people prefer the fast paced action over depth. I think Fallout 3 succeeds in combining both; all though it did lack a little depth. But compared to it's opponents, like Call of Duty, it's 10x superior.

I will say however that I was very late to catch onto Fallout 3, so late in fact that I've only just completed it tonight. And I will say that the game itself has completely raped my social life, work and weekends. I feel dirty. @Mikhelot just like FALLOUT3 if u just rush with the main quests its realy fast, i have over 60 of gameplay on fo3 and i ended the main quest and im still doing secondary quests and only 2 DLC completed (mothership zeta and the pitt). And i bought FNV so pretty much FALLOUT3 will be putt on old
@Chonaire well no not the main quest but I was trying to find all locations in the end it all got too much and I gave up. I left it at 104 locations discovered and then just went on and completed the story.
I wish fallout three had the one thing that fallout 2 has.... TRANSPORTATION. God how cool would it be if say you could jump on one of those bikes sitting around. Seems to me you should be able to jerry rig replacement parts for the engine cause after all they were gas powered unlike the cars were. Hell if your makin a gun with a leaf blower and a vacuum cleaner then hell the vault dweller should have been able to fix a bike. Least fallout 2 had the highwayman car.

I have played all the numerical Final Fantasies, back when I was 10 the Pokemon games, Fallout, Most of the Elder Scrolls games, Fable 2 a high-end PC, a Wii, and an Xbox 360. I have a broad interest in FPS, RPGs, MMOs, Platformers, and the occasional handheld game (emulated) among which is Halo, Mario, Zelda, Gears of War, Call of Duty (thats the shit) Castlevania, and many others so get off your soapbox and shut the steriotype
Nah, the gameplay is much more in depth, but FO3 is real time, and this is turn-based. The graphics may be better in FO3 but FO2 is a much more solid game.

It had a more grim atmosphere, does this make it better? Perhaps... Fallout 3 takes a much more modern outlook on it though, in the way in which most charachters realise how completly sh*t their lives are, but choose to laugh about it rather than get all depressed.
On saying that, also more realistically, fallout 3 takes place 200 years AFTER the bombs, that's over 100 years after fallout 1 just about? Either way, the point is... the people can't go around all depressed and down for all eternity, they have to pick themselves up sometime from the desert wasteland sometime.

I'm currently playing 1 & 2, ofcourse 3 dominates in graphics/gameplay but Im enjoying the series at the same time depressing the shit out of myself with the idea of a post apocalyptic outcome but im a big fan of the series so the three are all the same to me

fallout 3 is beats to the guy whos just bought it dont stick to the main story line ! if youdo the side missions you will get more out of it . sure they are trickey and that but they are fun and rewarding ! if you do the mian story you will finish it in hours and get bored and throw the game to one side . (film with you dad from fallout 3 in - taken - hes the main character _kik ass film !

You know, Im 16 and I have played a great many RPGs. I have played all the numerical Final Fantasies, back when I was 10 the Pokemon games, Fallout, Most of the Elder Scrolls games, Fable 2 a high-end PC, a Wii, and an Xbox 360. I have a broad interest in FPS, RPGs, MMOs, Platformers, and the occasional handheld game (emulated) among which is Halo, Mario, Zelda, Gears of War, Call of Duty (thats the shit) Castlevania, and many others so get off your soapbox and shut the steriotype

Nah, the gameplay is much more in depth, but FO3 is real time, and this is turn-based. The graphics may be better in FO3 but FO2 is a much more solid game.

It had a more grim atmosphere, does this make it better? Perhaps... Fallout 3 takes a much more modern outlook on it though, in the way in which most charachters realise how completly sh*t their lives are, but choose to laugh about it rather than get all depressed.

On saying that, also more realistically, fallout 3 takes place 200 years AFTER the bombs, that's over 100 years after fallout 1 just about? Not because fallout1 had horrible quests means fallout 3's gotta suck too at questlines.
Most quests didn't make sense AT ALL, and imo where way worse than previous games. And when I say "way to destroy a classic" I meant it in every way, not just story / quests.
