The old timer was a Dominique who I raised from a chick. He developed kinky back (scoliosis) as he grew, yet still got around fine. I couldn't raise chicks from him because scoliosis is genetic. He was a well tempered rooster though and wasn't too hard on the hens. He passed away last year at 4 yrs old. It was a sad day. He was a rooster I'll never forget.
@flagwaver1969 Thats Too bad. I realy like Dominique chcikens. We dont have any, but a friend does. What we own are Pheasents, 2 breeds: The Common white collar pheasent, and A Blue Species. I Have a video about them on my other channel, PGOproductions3. We recently got some chciken eggs from the frriend who has chickens. Out of 6, 5 Survived. 3 were Dominique chcikens and the other 2 were Barnevelder chickens.
I appreciate that. Recently my Maran rooster was attacked by a bobcat. I ran out in time with my rifle. As the rooster lay motionless I thought he was dead. He jumped up and took off. I caught him and nursed him back. He's as strong as ever now. I have to confine them to a yard now and set traps out.
@flagwaver1969 aaww, well I'm glad your Maran is well now. Yeah we live out in the country too and the safest thing to do is keep em in a yard or run. The thing that I'm afraid of most are dogs to be honest both strays and neighbors dogs... hubby needs to teach me how to shoot. I'll be damned if I'm gonna let anything get one of my chickens.
I'll usually trap a coon or a fox and take 'em way out near the coast away from ranches to let them go. Bobcats get no mercy from me because they are so hard to catch and sneaky. I caught the same dog 3 times on my property and took him back to the owner. I scolded the owner the 3rd time. Unfortunately there are idiots who own dogs and the dog suffers because of their negligence.
Is that rooster at 3:05 realy old? He looks old.

Dominiques can be nasty to other breeds but aren't too flighty. I've never had Barnevelders but they are certainly a good looking breed.
