We have many lovely singers in this world, but in my opinion there will never be any woman in this day or in the future that will ever have such a beautiful voice as Karen. She had it all!
Long before autotune and other hi-tech audio devices, Karen Carpenter had a perfect pitch voice... such a pleasure to listen to her sing, I'm honored! Thank you Carpenters!
It blows my mind knowing that Karen sang this song when she was just in her teens. Such maturity and an awareness of what her voice could do. AMAZING!!!
Thank you for all of the nice comments that many of you have left for me on my Channel. Please feel free to subscribe as this channel is dedicated to Karen.
All these early Carpenter songs were so special & what gems they were. Karen however was singing about something that she had not yet experienced called Love, but you could never tell by how well the song was done, always with such feeling. She read all the songs so well.
I haven't heard this for over 30 years. I changed the "boy lines" to "girl lines" and sang this song to my wife in our wedding in 1971. Talk about a head rush, this is a heart rush!! I think I'll sing it to her again for our 40th anniversary this summer.
I haven't heard this for over 30 years. I changed the "boy lines" to "girl lines" and sang this song to my wife in our wedding in 1971. Talk about a head rush, this is a heart rush!!
Wow. I gather that this lass is only 19 years old here and what a pair of lungs. Great voice and boy could she sing and with such soul and musicality too. Her brother composed and arranged this song. Listen to these bold harmonies build up towards the end and finish on that amazing chord. Anyone dismissing the Carpenters as "easy listening" is an idiot. THIS IS SHIT HOT STUFF!
From their 1st and one of their best albums,"Ticket to Ride".Amazingly after it didn't sell as well as expected ,many people at A&M records asked that The Carpenters be dropped!
I remember when this song played on their TV movie, EVERYONE wanted to know where this song came from....I wish they could do this now on an unplugged show - know what I mean??? A heaven sent voice and will remain in my heart forever...
I'm hearing a lot of their early songs for the first time ever. They were freakin' brilliant. Their first few albums destroy the long believed notion that Carpenters was "elevator music." Unfortunately their creative edge was dulled by the mid-'70's. But this stuff, wow.
She had such a beautiful, clear voice and you could understand every word she was singing, unlike many singers that you hear now. She also just stood and sang and never screeched or shouted any song. If someone has a good singing voice then they don't need a horde of dancers behind them jumping or gyrating all over the stage but that's what seems to sell music to young people today.
This is my favority Carpenter's song. Thanks for uploading and for all your work in putting all these lovely images together. Kind regards, Jean Loyens, Belgium
It's great to see the Carpenters influence reaching people who weren't even alive in their heyday. Karen's been gone for 27 years this past week (February 4th) and she remains one of the biggest inspirations I've ever had.
I love karen, she was such a beautifully lady with a fantastic voice!!! all her songs are sang with such meaning and so heartfelt!! thank you for sharing!
To Teraniel11, I turn 63 y/o next week, & I am so very, very impressed that you, a 16 y/o today, love this music, & this song in particular. It was 1970--Fall, when I purchased the album with this masterpiece on it--Ticket To Ride. I was simply speechless, hearing this for the 1st time. Now, > 39 yrs later, to read that you are so moved--well, it gives me hope. Karens voice & Rich's arrangements were simply a Gift from God, & I miss her more each year. God Bless You, Teraniel11. Wolfsky9
It's been almost four decades since the Carpenter's graced us with their God given talent(s). Some 40 years later, there is no one who comes close. Richard's musical arrangements and Karen's extraordinary vocals, it was a musical match made in heaven!!
@Wolfsky9 I would have loved to have been alive when Karen and Rich were still performing, let alone when Karen was still alive. I've been listening to the Carpenters since I was a little girl (i'm 15 now), and I love them so much :). My personal favourite song has to be "A Song For You", and "The Karen Carpenter Story" is my favourite movie of all time, despite Rich's hatred of it, and it is what introduced me to the wonderful talents that are Karen and Richard Carpenter :).
This wasn't released as a single from their first album, and at that time, they were unknown. If it had been released in 1970 it might have gone somewhere on the charts, but it's not a strong enough tune to be a mega hit, in my opinion.
Quintessential American love ballad-Karen's beautiful soulful alto voice and Richard's expert arranging. I was around long before Carpenters and sadly a long time after. in the 70s and 80s I wore the gooves out of their vinyl albums. Thanks to such artful posting by Florcha and you tube I can listen to them once more. I love many kinds of music but Carpenters are in a special class. Thank you
florcha34, Me again. I love the rare pictures you have of Karen that you've put into this video! Where did you get them? I wrote below, I thought it was to someone asking where this song was from. Now I recall, it may be somewhere else also. It's on a Boxed Set I bought of "Carpenters" 4 C.D's called"From the Top" covering their entire Career together, sadly too short. I would have loved to hear Karen's voice mature and change over the years. And to hear how the material would've evolved.TYagain
When they were recording with Joe (I believe) he says to them that The R.C Trio sounds well but he search slightly vocal. Richard says: she can sing,,,is this song that Karen sings firstly in E major (incorrect armor for her vocal range) and then Richard apologizes and they sing it in: A major... And discovers: the karen's voice sounds wonderfully in this height.. and her contract.
I love this song. I heard part of it on the Karen Carpenter Story. Beautiful song ty very much!!! Great video. I have never heard this song all the way through. This is a must have for my ipod:)
It is on one of their c.d.'s Sorry I am too lazy to get up and look through them ALL I have sooo much Carpenter's Music! But it is on one of, I think their earlier albums. There will never be another Karen she was so SPECIAL, I LOVE AND MISS HER. Always have since her passing, thank God we have her heart that she left us in her beautiful music and voice.
this was their audition piece and they did it instrumental and the studio did not like it! Richard said my sister can sing and there you go.... This is what I was told , perhaps I am wrong...
Congratulations! You are listening to one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written and will ever be written. Certainly one of the most beautiful voices ever. Thank you Karen and Richard.
Question: How many great songs did Karen Carpenter record? Answer: A heck of a lot, thank God!
Even if the cold and lonely world stopped caring years ago, she'll always be admired, missed, and truly loved by her adoring fans. Sadly, I'm the only one I know who cares! My dad likes a few of their hits, and I'm very thankful he got me into them, but he's no big fan.
Trying to play The Carpenters for your friends and family may be utterly hopeless, but what do they know about good music anyway?
yea that comment is so true... no one in my family seems to appreciate The Carpenters... the voice of Karen and the musical arrangments are amazing... it should be enough to hook anybody in but sadly not...
Hey, our 19 year old son likes the Carpenters. He heard them since he was a weeee bit over 1 year old. He started singing her songs after hearing The Karen Carpenter Story over and over and over:) Could you imagine them in concert.:) WOW
I've been looking for this song for YEARS, saw the part of the movie (The Karen Carpenter Story) where it was recorded and fell in love with it... Thank You Thank You Thank You :o)
Of course-- it is from Ticket to Ride. I just bought this CD three weeks ago and can't stop playing it. Karen, all of 19, sounded and played like a seasoned pro. He early drumming has never been bettered, by Hal Blaine nor any of them.
Wow, I don't know this one-- where have I been? It sounds like her extraordinary drumming with its light, jazzy feel. Her younger vocals had a sense of depth that I honestly love even more than her later work.
Thanks again and again, Florcha4, I listen and watch and my heart breaks anew every time I listen, but its such a bittersweet pain; my tears are tears of joy; you are doing the best kind of tribute to her that I can imagine. Again--thanks.
Thank you very much for your words, it is pretty to know that someone more enjoys so much like I of making and looking at videoes to honour our dear K.C to both to The Carpenters...
Love this song and Karens range in it. It is a wonderful song and I love the pictures in this video that you did. Karen is one of my idols and I love The Carpenters music and Karen is truly one of the best female singers that ever lived!!! Love this song and the video is awesome as well. Thanks for posting.
hola florcha me preguntaba si tienes los acordes de esta cancion para tocarla en piano y en guitarra por faor si los tienes me los puedes mandar por favorrrrrrrrrrrr thanks amo esta cancion
Awesome Karen Carpenter portraits, with at least one or two I'd not seen before. Where are you getting your collection of photos? Really enjoying your Carpenter youtube videos, thanks for all your hard work. You can't know how much I appreciate each and every work dedicated to KC.
As far as I know this was 1969, and it wasn't a hit. It should have been though. What a beautiful song. You can find it on the Ticket To Ride album (previously known as Offering). Hope that helps!
How can anyone dislike this!..Such a beautiful song RIP Karen :)

Thanks again and again, Florcha4, I listen and watch and my heart breaks anew every time I listen, but its such a bittersweet pain; my tears are tears of joy; you are doing the best kind of tribute to her that I can imagine. Again--thanks.

Awesome Karen Carpenter portraits, with at least one or two I'd not seen before. Where are you getting your collection of photos? Really enjoying your Carpenter youtube videos, thanks for all your hard work. You can't know how much I appreciate each and every work dedicated to KC.

Is this one of her hits or wasnt it a hit ? and witch year is this, do u know that?
sneyder69 4 years ago
As far as I know this was 1969, and it wasn't a hit. It should have been though. What a beautiful song. You can find it on the Ticket To Ride album (previously known as Offering). Hope that helps!
