the dell mini 9 is the perfect netbook for hacking if you want to install mac os x on it. almost everything will work, and it's easy to set up. i would pick this up if i had an extra 300 dollars.
honestly, i like this more than the macbook air. it's cheaper, and it's better. the air is ridiculously lacking ports, and it's too expensive and big. think of the dell 9 as a true apple netbook.
search on the net if you want to see how to install leopard on this thing.
well you can custimize it if you get the 299 dollar one the webcam cost when you custimize is about $20-$15 or so really CHEAP! i baught one and cant wait till it comes
why are we in this current trend where everything has to get small? i like my large lightweight laptop with the big screen... this ones too small, enjoy my small cellphone but the new mp3 players are too small for my fingers. trying to sell this cuz its new small and cool is a lame target to aim for. i have no desire to buy this
Guy goes on and on without showing a close up of the screen....who want to see his face reading some crap written by somebody? DOnt people realize they are such bores......I wont buy this computer because it cant be good, if the video was so badly and thoughlessly done!
Hey, I've been looking at this netbook for a while for my teens birthday. Does it come with Microsoft Office because that i the most important thing to my child right now. He lkes to write and other things. So does this come with word. If not how much will it cost.
If it doesn't it should. Those pickups they've put in the full-size Inspiron and XPS laptops are so tiny...all it would be (in the mini screen) is just a few more hair-thin wires to put in. My guess is the ones that have the integrated cameras include a mic.
Yes i just got the dell mini 9 a few days ago and i take it everywhere. its fantastic...and it looks good, not hot (the HP mini looks hot) but HP was just too expensive..
i am getting this very soon. but i do agree with some of you. macs are much better than PC's. but the new mac mini's are like 550 dollers or something.
no it doesnt come with a disk drive but when your ordering one you have the option to place a disk drive in for additional money. i believe its about 80 dollers for dvd and cd. but just for dvd its around 20
I did hours of research on netbooks and I decided on this one. People don't usually mention what makes this thing great. It's one of the lightest netbooks. It has one of the best track pads & left-right click arrangements. It is completely solid state. It has no fan so it's completely silent. I think it is a great union of portability and functionality. It is also easy to mod. The one bad thing is the size of the screen. They could have put a 10" screen in the same size case...probably coming.
So I just got my mini9. It has bluetooth and I would like to use my 50 inch lcd tv in my livingroom as a monitor as I sit on my couch surfing the web. Can I do this wirelessly without a patchcord??? If so, what do I need to do???
I've personally had bad experiences with acer computers. Dell in my opinion is more reliable than Acer. Plus customer support is much less painful working with Dell.
One of the advantages of the AAO is you can get the 6 cell battery which lasts almost 6 hours. The Dell Mini 9 lasts almost 4 hours. Dell is cheaper though.
man shut up. you got windows so thats ur first problem. linux all the way nigga. and more than likely you probably overworked the shit outta the mini 9.
My dad just got one for work, it runs xp and has 2 gb of ram. he also bought a 32gb jump drive and soldered it into the board so now it has 48gb memory, all solid state! it is really sick!
The dell mini is way behind compare to Acer One Aspire which the new version will come out end of OCT with 160 gig and 6 cell battery...Dell needs to play catch up...but then Dell Fans buy Dell it for their looks like Mac hans.
This guy is the reason why nobody thinks of Dell as a cool brand, you have a very nice netbook, a cool product and.....BAM! you put this guy on video to introduce it to the world and right away everybody thinks of the computer as boring. Please Dell rethink your product placement strategy because young people will buy this product but if you keep using "im PC" guy on this videos you will loose many clients. (nothing personal against this poor personallityless guy he is just doing as told)
Ive got one in Black and XP home, its pretty good. It can be slow though sometimes cos it runs on Intel atom. im gettin a 250Gb hard drive 4 it from freecom so it will be much better then. and btw you can download Itunes on it.
You don't need itunes with the linux version. It's player automatically syncs or is compatiable with the ipod. But yes itunes will work on the windows verions.
I don't know if I really would need this... It'd be ideal for school which I started today. I already am going to take my Dell XPS M1530 with me. It's pretty bulky for school, but the fact that I can play games like Call of Duty and Halo 2 while on a break is fantastic. But it would be nice for a device that can get internet even without a Wifi hotspot... I'm very interested...
"Although we anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and have adjusted the estimated ship date as reflected below (see Revised Estimated Ship Date). We value your business and appreciate your patience."
Ordered mine on Sept. 8, and continues to get pushed back. New date is Nov. 6. Rumor is that there is a problem w/ how slow XP runs on this processor. If you purchased it w/ Linux - it ships.
Can you install Microsoft Words? If not there's not use for me on it. It haS the same GB that my Ipod and do the same things so, why is it better besides being bigger and with a keyboard?
...why don:t you show the size of the external PSU? No reviews seem to show it, or even mention it. Having a huge PSU to lug around somehow misses the point of a mini laptop...the one for the EeePC is tiny, so going by the fact that it:s not mentioned here i:m assuming it:s an almighty brick!
Hope you don:t do an Apple-style censorship job on my posting Dell!
It's pretty small. Check out the independent video review "dell Inspiron Mini 9 Hands-on" from "Laptopmag" You'll find it in the related videos on the right side of this page
The video doesn't show the date of the recording. I believe that it was taken before it was even named 'Mini 9'. Is it just me, or does Brian not say the name 'Mini 9' at all? Only 'Inspiron Mini' at the very beginning, 00:14. I'm not picky, but he constantly calls 'Mini 9' the following names: it, device, secondary device, platform, mobile system, product. Just pay attention to it.
Also, not a big deal, but he doesn't even look directly into the camera.
You're probably right. It's sometimes also called the Inspiron 910. I only mentioned this because I saw a Dell rep showing off rugged laptops to our state transportation cabinet and the sales-speak was the same. I'm not picky - it just amuses me. :)
First off, I'm really excited about the Mini 9, especially with the customized Ubuntu netbook remix on it. I just wanted to say that I've listened to Dell's marketing people, and it is amusing how many times you guys use the word "product" when describing something. It's like they give you a "rules for demonstrating products" manual, and page 1 says "always refer to the product as 'product.' Do not call it a laptop, netbook or refer to it by it's product name." :)
the shift key is absolute shit, it all comes down to the keyboard people, simple buy the acer aspire one 8gb hard drvie ssd, 512mb ram, 330$ canadian, u cant beat that
to all ppl talking for acer, dont its crap... i've had their laptops, i know several ppl who've had laptops and desktops, and they generally just dont work very well
thats my experience, and the feedback i've gotten from friends at least
Dell, You have reached my expectations of a laptop. Thank you. Me being a hardcore gamer, have a nice XPS. But I needed something, small, and used for the Internet! Because I hate to boot up my huge Desktop to just look up my email, than shut it down. or having to bring a huge laptop to school, just to get a few files off. This is something I am really interested.
I'm really trying to think of a case where I need more than 4-8gb of space in one of these. I figure I would just carry a mem card or external HD. Am I missing the where the argument is for more space?
hey idiot. the dell has a solid state hard drive. thats a very expensive hard drive. it takes 30 seconds to load up windows. and the screen is led not lcd. again its more expensive. plus acer sucks.
looks good, but well see how easy it's to hack. i need gps, 3g modem, dvb tuner, real hd and touch screen. usually dell is heavily against any modding, so most likely you can't turn it into a real killer, but rather a nightmare.
It's faster & has the atom processor which the first eee pc's did not have also better price point vs storage & screen resoultion. Bigger screen, I think it beats all of the others, I really want one!
does it cost extra to have internet anywhere. even if you are not in a computer wireless place like a hotel. cuz im going to florida and i want to IM my friends in the car. but my parents said i cant. does it cost extra to be able to do that?
I love this computer. Although I am a desktop guy, I'd want one of these little babies if I were going out to Starbucks or somewhere. At least I could watch some movies or surf the web lol.
I think even in Aisa it would be hard to find really compact places that can not even hold a normal size laptop, he should try target on the international space station instead
I'm sorry Dell, but this netbook can't hold a candle to the Acer One. Outside the Dell name...what does this model have over the Acer? The Acer has 120GB hard drive...Windows Xp...more ports...nicer keyboard...and stocked with 1GB ram....oh and it's only 349.99. I'm posting this comment from mine now.
i bought this computer and it's great but the only problem was that it only has 2 hours of battery life

Why can't I get Ubuntu on the top spec version?
hippydownhippydown 3 years ago
Install it yourself? It's not like Ubuntu isn't free.
takingbackfrydae 3 years ago
I was planning to purchase one & I've visited Dell's website to customize it.
I've chosen the highest configuration of everything & with Ubuntu as OS.

Instead of leading users to the BEST of the internet... It leads them to WHOEVER PAID DELL THE MOST MONEY.
brucewagner 3 years ago
I hate that Dell installs software as a front-end which directs users to WHOEVER PAID DELL THE MOST MONEY...

Am I missing the where the argument is for more space?
hoshnasi 3 years ago
For $399 they offer the model with 16GB
That's pretty good price point, Considering.
And yea at 16GB that's plenty of head room for updates etc.
catnip20 3 years ago
u got to be kidding...ACER offer 120 GIG for a cheaper price
TheAgent06 3 years ago
hey idiot. the dell has a solid state hard drive. thats a very expensive hard drive. it takes 30 seconds to load up windows. and the screen is led not lcd. again its more expensive. plus acer sucks.
kassius786 3 years ago
what is the word "acer" doing here in the first place?
buopesado 3 years ago
yes u are....small laptop like these...u would need space to store pics, vieos, and music...
TheAgent06 3 years ago
looks good, but well see how easy it's to hack. i need gps, 3g modem, dvb tuner, real hd and touch screen. usually dell is heavily against any modding, so most likely you can't turn it into a real killer, but rather a nightmare.

It's faster & has the atom processor which the first eee pc's did not have also better price point vs storage & screen resoultion. Bigger screen, I think it beats all of the others, I really want one!

I ordered one the day it was placed up for sale. It's a shame I'm going to have to wait a month for it to ship.

I love this computer. Although I am a desktop guy, I'd want one of these little babies if I were going out to Starbucks or somewhere. At least I could watch some movies or surf the web lol.

unfortunatly i've had nothing but problems with my dell laptop. This thing will break and dell customer service is the worst i've ever encountered.
democracyisdead 3 years ago
I think even in Aisa it would be hard to find really compact places that can not even hold a normal size laptop, he should try target on the international space station instead

Very nice. If it were payweek I'd buy one right now.
Well, no, actually. I want to see a few more reviews first. Little concerned about the keyboard and I want at least four hours of battery life.
But, still, very nice.

Dunno, but with the Mini "you don't have to shkroll and you can fit more of the Internet on the page and be able to consume that."
