He's not even wearing those funny little booties they normally wear...
Bottom line, all this proves is THIS kick boxer is better than THIS thai boxer, doesn't prove one style is better than the other.
@jonfenlviv HAHA muay thai means 8 limbs (2 fists, 2 elbows, 2 knees, 2 shins) for hitting. so how doenst muay thai not allow below waste they can hit ANYWHERE. clearly u know NOTHING about these martial arts.

@ onlisan, i do not agreed. i think is opposite. u havent heard about "buakaw" u wouldnt know. he was a muay thai fighter before he became kick boxer. check out his vids.
Well, even though I agree, just take into consideration that Muay Thai reserves a considerable part of their training to the use of knees and elbows, and many hold these as their main weapons, so he might have been in slight disadvantage.
u dont think much of kick boxing then. kickboxing isn't better then muay thai, nor is muay thai better then kick boxing, it depends on who wants to win more, and who is more skilled in what they do.
Agreed but, technically a Muay Thai fighter should win if they were evenly skilled. This is because kickboxing is not as broad as Muay Thai e.g. in Muay Thai you can use elbows and knees, and they kick with shins. So a Muay Thai fighter has more at their disposal to do damage to the opponent. So what i'm saying is the Muay Thai fighter should of won. Thus i said the Muay Thai fighter in that video can't be great as he lost to a kickboxer. Trust me i've done both Muay Thai and kickboxing.
@pkboxrange well, iv only kicked boxed (alittle) like 1 week so far. but im really all about the judo, i find kick boxing and muay thai more fun to watch then do, and judo more fun to do then to watch. :D but ur right, kickboxing is pritty much a branch off of the muay thai tree, the maker took some key points of muay thai and Tai kawn do, then mixed that with western boxing. so i agree that the muay thai guy should win since its just art vs art. but like i always say its probably gonna be the
Actually they put this too the test, in the early 1980's, They pitted Kickboxers from PKA(Pro Karate Association), which none were trained in Muay thai, most were American Karate, and for those of you who don't know what this means, it is a blend of Karate-Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, with some Indonesian and Filipino styles thrown in.The event was held in Thailand. The rules were Blended, the results out of the 5 weight divisions? 4 wins by PKA one win by a Thai fighter.
The thai fighter that won, won his by TKO and was a legend in thai history. The PKA wins were 3 KO's and one close split decision by Thai Judges. And for those of you who think MMA is new to America. It's not, There have been many dominate fighters in USA history. Gene lebelle is one, and I have a list of at least 20 others that were dominate world wide. I have footage of some events that make many fighters today look amateurish. Also Ju-jutsu was introduced to the US in 1885.
@pkboxrange Well in that sense that would've meant that the Kickboxer was more skilled in the boxing and kicking arts since his training was NOT broader and therefore would've won since in Muay Thai, besides clinching, not a lot of knees and elbows are thrown.
Well, they are nowadays becoming more and more the same sport. NOT saying they are the same sport, but they are both integrating techniques and strategy from the other. Both nowadays use the superior punches and movement of Boxing. All kickboxing schools I've ever been to teach knees, elbows just as much as the Thai schools, and they also ALWAYS kick with the shin.
Some kick boxing schools don't tell you they actually teach you Muay Thai. But the ones that do, and that many of the ones with the better qualified instructors, tend refer to Muay Thai classes as "Advanced Kickboxing", also many hold kickboxing a prerequisite to learn Muay Thai. This means that Muay Thai is a more comlex version of Kick Boxing. Please do believe me Muay Thai is better that Kick Boxing in technique, there is no denying it, but the fighter obviously makes the bigger difference.
@pkboxrange the issue with the more weapons=better chance to win is that in a fight u may not ever get the chance to use all of your techniques. You may not have to, fight can end in one lucky punch.
@REDSAMURAI307 i will agree with you on that :it depends on who wants to win more but muay thai its not better too than kickboxing and kickboxing isnt good than muay thai...
Personaly I think it comes down to what art has the edge over one. Muay Thai has the edge in kicking and delivering more forceful strikes, but Kick boxing is better at punching.
It would be stupid to say that all the martial arts are equaly good. There are arts that are better than some.
@VIBoBoIV well i could go into the whole x style v.s y style but i won't...as far as your comment. muay thai doesn't have an edge over kickboxing. why? i think this is japanese style kickboxing, and if it is: japanese style kickboxing ( witch is more common then american kickboxing, witch is boxing mixed with a from of karate) comes from muay thai, and for the most part is the same thing. you just get to call it something else. that being said: how is thai better then kickboxing?
I find Thai to be more focused on Kicks, Kick-boxing is a mix between punching and kicks. I think thai is better because of my personal style of fighting and the more agile kind of fighting.
@RabidxPanda...this is clearly japanese kickboxing, they're might b a debate if it was american ...japanese kickboxing comes from muay thai...the only major difference is the rules...they score points different...and maybe i'm sure they're are some SMALL differences.but there differences are so small, it does come down to skill. so i ask you: a smart martial arts fan, if the art is the same for the most part, how can one be soo much better? your just a muaythai fan, that doesn't make it better.
Not completely true. Kick boxers Im sure have something that Muay Thai doesn't, the same with kick boxing. There are martial arts that prove to be more efficient then others. Lets say Muay Thai and Boxing, a boxer will focus only on their upper body while a Thai boxer will focus on the upper and lower body. I see where your going at and I agree with you, but the martial art itself can play a tiny roll or a massive role in who wins a fight.
i agree with you, as much as i hate to say it...some styles are better then others. my point is, with these styles.. (kickboxing v.s muay thai) the differences are so small, that in this art v.s art match up. it really does depend on the fighter's skill and not the style...but say if it was capcora v.s boxing...well every one knows the boxer will knock him out. and yes they're ARE differences between them, but they're mainly in the sparring rules and maybe witch parts of the body they train more
@REDSAMURAI307 honestly, most kickboxing trainers are going to teach you muay thai as well. they are very similar arts and if your trainer is good he's going to pretty much want you to get the full striking experience. my trainer started me with the more defensive paced kickboxing then when i moved up he taught me the more offensive and versatile muay thai (knee strikes, elbow strikes, clinches, powerful shin strikes).
(part2) for example, kickboxing might work on flexibility a bit more so then muah thai, and muay thai might work on power more so then speed..but japanese style kickboxing (witch is the most used version thanks to the damned ufc) comes from muay thai and is pretty much the exact same style..but american style kickboxing comes from full contact chuu-ryo style karate (i think, it might b a different style of karate) so american style will be a good bit different as u said. :D
In MT rules MT guy tends to have advantage regarding to clinching knees and side kicking with the shank rather than the foot. But the essential thing for both is to have a good boxing besides good kicking.
Btw If anyone is interested in Training boxing or muay thai with a former champ in both styles in Rio de Janeiro as well as interested in invest in some figthing event here in Rio/Brazil, please take a look at my chanel as well as at my blog.
there rlly is no greater style its how da practitioner uses it a boxer can beat the fuck out of a taekwondo practitioner and yet a taekwondo practitioner can fuck up a boxer it can go either way on who is more fluid in the style
So? I wasn't trained in martial arts when I beat the crap out of this supposed 3rd degree dan in some martial art style. Style matters, but too many people think that a style is magical...I studied ninpo this year and in 9th kyu I could handle a guy in 3rd kyu cuz i got into real fights and i knew how to fight and how to apply ninpo techniques at the right time...guy i fought relied only on what he learned but never got into a real fight and he couldn't take me...it's the fighter, not the style
I agree with that, but without experience, technique doesn't matter either. To make a good fighter, both of them have to come together. But, if someone has technique mastered, I suppose that after about a dozen real street fights, he'd get the hang of how to use his technique whereas the brawler may just learn a few "street" techniques but not a whole arsenal of take-downs and blows. I feel that if you have the experience of real fighting, and you adopt a technique, your gonna be a great fighter
you got a point there bro, but people whose goal is to compete in a ring/cage wont gain their experience on street, we have sparring for that...not to mention you can go full contact on training aswell and even there's a big risk of injuries, gladly not as much as on street fight though. now if you wanna compare a good street fighter against pro fighter take a look at kimbo slice...he was a street fighter, got to mma organization, got his ass kicked, now he wants to be an mma fighter :)
dude that comment is full of shit...i don't mean to disrespect or anything but writing something without knowledge sucks...kickboxing may be karate + tkd + boxing but don't put muay thai in that basket cus muay thai is way better then kickboxing and that's been proved many times..the simple difference between mt and kb incase you didn't know, is the way they do roundhouse kick, they do it completly different at those 2 styles..
the undisputed style, of course, is the im-better-than-all-you-niggas-even-tho-ive-never-been-in-a-fight-and-i'll-rag-on-everything-else style. it has never had a loss because theyve never had a win either.
haha i laughed hard at that one...kickboxing is not connected to muay thai in any look, except you kick and punch at both...i've seen many kickboxing world champs going to thailand in the past to prove they're the best and got brutally fucked (i'd say KO-d but it was more then just KO-s, they generally beat the shit out of em!) ... but ofcourse, most of times the euro/US kickboxers won cus MT fighters got DQ-d cus of illegal elbows, clinch/knee to "death" etc...
saying your style is better that another style is not going to make any of you suck any less. at least these guys went at it and tried to expand their knowledge.
Almost everything depends on the person, the kickboxer could have probaly won over the muay thai too if he practised muay thai and the other kickboxing. I myself like kickboxing :D
Muay thai has a different stance, form, and set of rules. Muay thai uses more elbow and knee techniques and are great in clinch. Kicks and lethal punches are a bonus.
In Kickboxing you get taught how to elbow and knee but in the U.S. you cant do that in the ring. So naturally the Kicking and punching is a bit more on point with them. in Japan u can elbow and knee so they just say that its the same thing.

u dont think much of kick boxing then. kickboxing isn't better then muay thai, nor is muay thai better then kick boxing, it depends on who wants to win more, and who is more skilled in what they do.
REDSAMURAI307 2 years ago 32
Agreed but, technically a Muay Thai fighter should win if they were evenly skilled. This is because kickboxing is not as broad as Muay Thai e.g. in Muay Thai you can use elbows and knees, and they kick with shins. So a Muay Thai fighter has more at their disposal to do damage to the opponent. So what i'm saying is the Muay Thai fighter should of won. Thus i said the Muay Thai fighter in that video can't be great as he lost to a kickboxer. Trust me i've done both Muay Thai and kickboxing.
pkboxrange 2 years ago
@pkboxrange well, iv only kicked boxed (alittle) like 1 week so far. but im really all about the judo, i find kick boxing and muay thai more fun to watch then do, and judo more fun to do then to watch. :D but ur right, kickboxing is pritty much a branch off of the muay thai tree, the maker took some key points of muay thai and Tai kawn do, then mixed that with western boxing. so i agree that the muay thai guy should win since its just art vs art. but like i always say its probably gonna be the
REDSAMURAI307 2 years ago
Actually they put this too the test, in the early 1980's, They pitted Kickboxers from PKA(Pro Karate Association), which none were trained in Muay thai, most were American Karate, and for those of you who don't know what this means, it is a blend of Karate-Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, with some Indonesian and Filipino styles thrown in.The event was held in Thailand. The rules were Blended, the results out of the 5 weight divisions? 4 wins by PKA one win by a Thai fighter.
JeffreyJamesLippold 2 years ago
The thai fighter that won, won his by TKO and was a legend in thai history. The PKA wins were 3 KO's and one close split decision by Thai Judges. And for those of you who think MMA is new to America. It's not, There have been many dominate fighters in USA history. Gene lebelle is one, and I have a list of at least 20 others that were dominate world wide. I have footage of some events that make many fighters today look amateurish. Also Ju-jutsu was introduced to the US in 1885.
JeffreyJamesLippold 2 years ago
guy who wants it the most that wins
REDSAMURAI307 2 years ago
@pkboxrange Well in that sense that would've meant that the Kickboxer was more skilled in the boxing and kicking arts since his training was NOT broader and therefore would've won since in Muay Thai, besides clinching, not a lot of knees and elbows are thrown.

@pkboxrange
Daski69 2 years ago
Some kick boxing schools don't tell you they actually teach you Muay Thai. But the ones that do, and that many of the ones with the better qualified instructors, tend refer to Muay Thai classes as "Advanced Kickboxing", also many hold kickboxing a prerequisite to learn Muay Thai. This means that Muay Thai is a more comlex version of Kick Boxing. Please do believe me Muay Thai is better that Kick Boxing in technique, there is no denying it, but the fighter obviously makes the bigger difference.
freedomismygod 2 years ago
@pkboxrange the issue with the more weapons=better chance to win is that in a fight u may not ever get the chance to use all of your techniques. You may not have to, fight can end in one lucky punch.

@REDSAMURAI307 i will agree with you on that :it depends on who wants to win more but muay thai its not better too than kickboxing and kickboxing isnt good than muay thai...
thodwras246 1 year ago
@REDSAMURAI307 i agreed with u 100%, i like kick boxing myself, but i dont think is better than muay thai
sleepypowa 1 year ago
@REDSAMURAI307
Personaly I think it comes down to what art has the edge over one. Muay Thai has the edge in kicking and delivering more forceful strikes, but Kick boxing is better at punching.
It would be stupid to say that all the martial arts are equaly good. There are arts that are better than some.
VIBoBoIV 1 year ago
@VIBoBoIV well i could go into the whole x style v.s y style but i won't...as far as your comment. muay thai doesn't have an edge over kickboxing. why? i think this is japanese style kickboxing, and if it is: japanese style kickboxing ( witch is more common then american kickboxing, witch is boxing mixed with a from of karate) comes from muay thai, and for the most part is the same thing. you just get to call it something else. that being said: how is thai better then kickboxing?
REDSAMURAI307 1 year ago
@REDSAMURAI307
I find Thai to be more focused on Kicks, Kick-boxing is a mix between punching and kicks. I think thai is better because of my personal style of fighting and the more agile kind of fighting.
VIBoBoIV 1 year ago
@REDSAMURAI307 if they are of equal skill muay thai guy wins...so a more skilled muay thai fighter would just be that much better haha
RabidxPanda 1 year ago
@RabidxPanda...this is clearly japanese kickboxing, they're might b a debate if it was american ...japanese kickboxing comes from muay thai...the only major difference is the rules...they score points different...and maybe i'm sure they're are some SMALL differences.but there differences are so small, it does come down to skill. so i ask you: a smart martial arts fan, if the art is the same for the most part, how can one be soo much better? your just a muaythai fan, that doesn't make it better.
REDSAMURAI307 1 year ago
@REDSAMURAI307
VIBoBoIV 1 year ago
i agree with you, as much as i hate to say it...some styles are better then others. my point is, with these styles.. (kickboxing v.s muay thai) the differences are so small, that in this art v.s art match up. it really does depend on the fighter's skill and not the style...but say if it was capcora v.s boxing...well every one knows the boxer will knock him out. and yes they're ARE differences between them, but they're mainly in the sparring rules and maybe witch parts of the body they train more
REDSAMURAI307 1 year ago
@REDSAMURAI307 honestly, most kickboxing trainers are going to teach you muay thai as well. they are very similar arts and if your trainer is good he's going to pretty much want you to get the full striking experience. my trainer started me with the more defensive paced kickboxing then when i moved up he taught me the more offensive and versatile muay thai (knee strikes, elbow strikes, clinches, powerful shin strikes).

REDSAMURAI307 1 year ago
(part2) for example, kickboxing might work on flexibility a bit more so then muah thai, and muay thai might work on power more so then speed..but japanese style kickboxing (witch is the most used version thanks to the damned ufc) comes from muay thai and is pretty much the exact same style..but american style kickboxing comes from full contact chuu-ryo style karate (i think, it might b a different style of karate) so american style will be a good bit different as u said. :D
REDSAMURAI307 1 year ago
In MT rules MT guy tends to have advantage regarding to clinching knees and side kicking with the shank rather than the foot. But the essential thing for both is to have a good boxing besides good kicking.
Btw If anyone is interested in Training boxing or muay thai with a former champ in both styles in Rio de Janeiro as well as interested in invest in some figthing event here in Rio/Brazil, please take a look at my chanel as well as at my blog.

TonyDent84 2 years ago 3
yea but without technique you wont do shit no matter how many times you brawled in club..
iLuvHardStyle 2 years ago
I agree with that, but without experience, technique doesn't matter either. To make a good fighter, both of them have to come together. But, if someone has technique mastered, I suppose that after about a dozen real street fights, he'd get the hang of how to use his technique whereas the brawler may just learn a few "street" techniques but not a whole arsenal of take-downs and blows. I feel that if you have the experience of real fighting, and you adopt a technique, your gonna be a great fighter
TonyDent84 2 years ago
you got a point there bro, but people whose goal is to compete in a ring/cage wont gain their experience on street, we have sparring for that...not to mention you can go full contact on training aswell and even there's a big risk of injuries, gladly not as much as on street fight though. now if you wanna compare a good street fighter against pro fighter take a look at kimbo slice...he was a street fighter, got to mma organization, got his ass kicked, now he wants to be an mma fighter :)

yeah... kickboxing is anything that is a striking based martial art (muay thai, karate, tkd, boxing etc)
CageFighter258 2 years ago
dude that comment is full of shit...i don't mean to disrespect or anything but writing something without knowledge sucks...kickboxing may be karate + tkd + boxing but don't put muay thai in that basket cus muay thai is way better then kickboxing and that's been proved many times..the simple difference between mt and kb incase you didn't know, is the way they do roundhouse kick, they do it completly different at those 2 styles..
iLuvHardStyle 2 years ago
@iLuvHardStyle : i dunno about that. we'll agree to disagree : )

the undisputed style, of course, is the im-better-than-all-you-niggas-even-tho-ive-never-been-in-a-fight-and-i'll-rag-on-everything-else style. it has never had a loss because theyve never had a win either.

Kick Boxing is like the sport version of Muay Thai.
Cavcstudios 2 years ago
haha i laughed hard at that one...kickboxing is not connected to muay thai in any look, except you kick and punch at both...i've seen many kickboxing world champs going to thailand in the past to prove they're the best and got brutally fucked (i'd say KO-d but it was more then just KO-s, they generally beat the shit out of em!) ... but ofcourse, most of times the euro/US kickboxers won cus MT fighters got DQ-d cus of illegal elbows, clinch/knee to "death" etc...
iLuvHardStyle 2 years ago 2
They kinda look the same.

i don´t see a difference ^^
artilah 2 years ago
Muay thai has a different stance, form, and set of rules. Muay thai uses more elbow and knee techniques and are great in clinch. Kicks and lethal punches are a bonus.
In Kickboxing you get taught how to elbow and knee but in the U.S. you cant do that in the ring. So naturally the Kicking and punching is a bit more on point with them. in Japan u can elbow and knee so they just say that its the same thing.
Does that help?
thoroughbred765 2 years ago
that isn't kickboxing, that is muay thai.
