does anyone have video of the protest in Washington DC held. Over 100,000 were there. It was the protest that led Nixon to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Thanks.

Those filthy Kent State campus hippies claimed that they were just peacefully standing across from the National Guardsmen. The hippies said the same thing during the Chicago Convention in 1968.
The fact is the hippies were not peaceful protestors as they claimed to be. They idolized Jerry Rubin while Abbie Hoffman's book "Steal This Book" showed hippies how to make bombs and where to throw them (ROTC buildings) and who to throw them at (Policemen.)
Shortly after the shootings took place, the Urban Institute conducted a national study that concluded the Kent State shooting was the single factor causing the only nationwide student strike in U.S. history —over 4 million students protested and over 900 American colleges and universities closed during the student strikes.
It is true that some student protestors, circa 1970, in Ohio were not always peaceful - if harm to property is considered as well as harm to human life.
It is also true that shooting at unarmed crowds in immoral, unnecessary and unworthy actions of a democracy.
This young man was a student at Jim Hill High School NOT Jackson State. So only one student was killed from JSU... the one standing in the window. Get it right, whoever you are.
I spoke extemporare and recorded it as a live performance - posted here warts and all.

Sorry for my historical errors. I misspoke any number of times as I told this story in performance for the first time. State troopers shot the students in Mississippi, not the National Guard. And I remember hearing that the students were in their beds but perhaps this was not true either?
@DubhHer0 Yep, you were wrong about students being killed in their beds at JSU; nevertheless, your story was told with passion and you deserve thanks and praise for your efforts-You're exactly what constitutes A GOOD AMERICAN!
"Students were killed at the university of mississippi in their beds... they were killed in their beds by the National Guard." This is incorrect. The protest was not at the University of Mississippi but at Jackson State University. The National Guard did not fire on the dormitory, it was the MS State Highway Patrol. One student was standing near a window and died. Another was hit across the street and died as he walked home, away from the protest.
Thank you Norah for bringing a turbulent time from the past to the present turbulent time.
Your approach to digital storytelling in this Tale from history brought a flood of memories from a time in Junior High School when most of us were scared, mad, worried, while some took action to have their voices heard.
Your video is amazing--captures so much of what it was like to be a student at BHS in 1970 and how determined you and others were to politicize the school and make students aware of what was happening in the larger world. When I tell folks about what was happening at BHS the spring I was there, they can't quite believe that all this occurred ( and with the tacit permission of the principal).

A wonderful new dimension is being added to storytelling.Stories to awaken or reawaken our political natures! That is what stories have been since there have been people to tell them. We are amnesiacs! Then, when we are reminded of what happened last week, last year, last decade -- we get angry all over again. But that's when things happen. Otherwise we would never change. Stories can help us remember...and make us determined to make things right, and ultimately bring us together. -Bob Reiser

I was part of the Vietnam protest movement, with my guitar. I wasn't telling stories then, just having conversations... Thanks for this story.
