i read an article recently that said teen use of sex and drugs was down from previous generations. my theory is they're spending all their time online. so if I'm right. . . prohibiting access and use to the internet would make those figures go back up.

I mean they are going to find out about these sort of things anyway so why not now or they could go to middle school and get picked on for not knowing about it so i think i would rather i knew about it. youtube is a large community that has tons of different videos. for somone like me, who uploads videos of trains and buses, it would not be a big deal for a pre-teen to have a YouTube account for railfanning. TBH, if YouTube was here when i was like 12 or 13, I would be the famous person that I am dreaming of being right now.

As with many things in life, there should be a segregation of children from adults on YouTube. Have 2 YouTubes; one for children, with lots of protections, and one for adults, with lots of freedom. This seems like common sense & responsible behavior to me. Indeed, I have been surprised several times to find out that, someone who I had had quite a bit to do with, turned out to be a child. I might have said something inappropriate to him/her & got into trouble without ever having a way to avoid it

I think it's good to let them start young. That way their parents can be with them, like training wheels, helping them learn to take criticism, to learn from it when it's constructive & ignore it when it's not, so they grow up having experience dealing with it. I think some adults, any age, are too fragile or irresponsible for accounts. If they start as kids WITH ADULT SUPERVISION, maybe they'll be stronger emotionally, and less likely to be cyber-bullies themselves.
I must say I find your reasoning intrigueing but to make reference to another persons post, she and her parents did ask Ark Productions to make that video. It was uplouded through them and on her own account which took most of the hate messages. So I guess the point is that she isn't the best exaple of this. Rebecca Black isn't a good example. Sexual comments are wrong, but that aside she's turned herself into a manufactured product. That's not her youtube channel her video is posted on, it's Ark Productions' channel. She's paid them to try to turn her into a professional product. She's gotta be able to take a bit of criticism. It's not like this is some poor little 13 year old girl who set up her own camera in her bedroom and decided to upload her singing to youtube. This is an attempt to buy fame.

I don't really think age restrictions on youtube would work. I mean how would they do it? Make you input your d.o.b.? Any child could lie about that when registering (plenty already do for other sites where that system is in place). The only other thing I could think that would be 'fool proof' would be to send youtube a copy of your I.D. to verify you are who you say you are in your registration information, but honestly, that is WAY more information than I'd be willing to divulge to youtube.

I agree with the kids these days - everything they have to watch on TV now is all about sex and drugs and emotionasl relationships etc - theres ntn fun anymore, its like TV throwin all this stuff in their face and forcing them to grow up way too fast. Missing out on the innocence and simplicity of being a child/pre-teen. I feel bad for them

As with many things in life, there should be a segregation of children from adults on YouTube. Have 2 YouTubes; one for children, with lots of protections, and one for adults, with lots of freedom. This seems like common sense & responsible behavior to me. Indeed, I have been surprised several times to find out that, someone who I had had quite a bit to do with, turned out to be a child. I might have said something inappropriate to him/her & got into trouble without ever having a way to avoid it

Is a total tard and also i feel you shouldent try to block people from making utube vidieos 90% of them have brains and avoid conflict. I think it's good to let them start young. That way their parents can be with them, like training wheels, helping them learn to take criticism, to learn from it when it's constructive & ignore it when it's not, so they grow up having experience dealing with it. I think some adults, any age, are too fragile or irresponsible for accounts. If they start as kids WITH ADULT SUPERVISION, maybe they'll be stronger emotionally, and less likely to be cyber-bullies themselves.

I must say I find your reasoning intrigueing but to make reference to another persons post, she and her parents did ask Ark Productions to make that video. It was uplouded through them and on her own account which took most of the hate messages. So I guess the point is that she isn't the best exaple of this. But I do understand your concerns and I agree with them fully. Way to be a voice of reason in a time of chaos! :D

Rebecca Black isn't a good example. Sexual comments are wrong, but that aside she's turned herself into a manufactured product. That's not her youtube channel her video is posted on, it's Ark Productions' channel. She's paid them to try to turn her into a professional product. She's gotta be able to take a bit of criticism. It's not like this is some poor little 13 year old girl who set up her own camera in her bedroom and decided to upload her singing to youtube. This is an attempt to buy fame.

Umm, its the parents responsibility no matter what. Parents who can't supervise their kids, should have their kids taken away.
as far as 'oversexed pre-teens", lol, that one of the rare times in life people are the most open about sex, mostly cuz its typically new to most of them. The internet just makes it possible to see what normally only stays between the kids themselves.
As a kid, I thought parents were clueless, as an old fuck, I now KNOW parents are clueless.

My daughter is 11 and has an account. She's learning how to use my video editor and doing stuff with her friends. It can be educational if you do it right. I'm going to teach her how to green screen suff soon.
You're right though. I find people leave mean comments. Like they were expecting high quality stuff from a kid. Jebus let the kid have some fun.

@insightnew at least you are aware of what is going on with her account. with parental supervision i don't see a problem. you can always talk to her if a comment get's to her.
i know when i was 11 someone commented that i finished my lunch like it was a bad thing. i took it to heart and started a two peaces of toast a day diet for a couple years... comments can really hurt someone so young and with so many mean trolls out there (unlike my nice twerks troll) it can be hard for a child to handle

It's true. They should but...what good will it do? They will just lie and say they are older (cause that's exactly what i did when i started my account a few years ago). Over 15 to post seems about right it won't stop everyone under 15 thats lieing about there age. Btw I got Rick rolled once again by that John Cena grrr haha.

I don't really think age restrictions on youtube would work. I mean how would they do it? Make you input your d.o.b.? Any child could lie about that when registering (plenty already do for other sites where that system is in place). The only other thing I could think that would be 'fool proof' would be to send youtube a copy of your I.D. to verify you are who you say you are in your registration information, but honestly, that is WAY more information than I'd be willing to divulge to youtube.
