Gmod. Is. Awesome. Been playing for...About 4 years, if not, 3 years but close to 4. It's still awesome. The limits of what you can do are literally as limited as your creativity. and if your bored of building, theres tons of scripted gamemodes to play. Gmod has a modding language called lua which allows coders to create, basically whatever they want.

The thing I like most about Garry's Mod is the vast amount of customization you can do. Changing the weapons/items/props/NPCs skins like you can in Half-Life 2 or Counter Strike Source, changing any sound in the entire game from NPC sounds to your own footsteps or menu sounds, changing your HUD with lua, adding health bars or radars, making your entire view bob and breathe realistically via Sharpeye, editing particles, reskining community made models/content... It makes everyone's game unique.
