I was raised in a violent home. When my son was 6-months old, I gave him up for adoption as I hit him and I did not want the cycle of violence to continue. It almost killed me to do that as I loved him so much. But I wanted him to grow up in an abuse-free environment. Someone has to stop the violence.

All too often the woman is blamed - for not leaving, allowing her children to witness it or for 'provoking'. The abuser is responsible for his actions. Children who witness DV do not all grow up to abuse, it is a controlled choice.

Believe it or not alcohol is not the main factor in domestic violence. You may think so, but it's not. 80% of the abusers admitted that drugs or alcohol mellow them out and make them less likely to strike.

Domestic violence is a learned behavior. The good majority of abusers were victims themselves.
