  • 0:27 . Gravity defying tyres!

  • @gerardz101 ever heard of those one clowns you punch and they come back up right away? enough said.

  • Best car commercial I've ever watched.

  • The description of this video should mention somewhere that this is 100% real, no computers used.

  • Here's the whole story, including the song (Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight"). Only a little late. :o) Look in Wikipedia for "Cog_(advertisement)".

  • wierd!

  • I think it references "The Way Things Go"/"Der Lauf der Dinge", an 1987 art performance.

  • @MrABadDriver I never thought of that, it makes sense.

  • There's no way this is real. Look at the thirty second mark. How are those tires moving up the ramp on their own?

  • BRILLIANT.

  • lol all that to press the boot key

  • How did they do the part with the wheels? It seems sort of bullshit that they can just go up a ramp with no help. And the part where the weird tube at 1:11 ish... the tube would have stopped going if the window had stopped it like that.

  • The wheels are done by putting some nuts and bolts inside them on one end of the tire, and then balancing them perfectly on the other end. When they're tipped over gravity tends to reach the point of minimum potential energy by lowering the bolts as much as possible, even if that means raising the other parts of the wheels a little bit.

For the tube part: it's simply a downward slope. The tube does stop, but when the obstacle (the window) is removed it starts rolling again.

  • the wheels are weighted with books, and after the tube thing gets hit by the rachet thing, the board slants down(you can see it in the video) so it rolls on through the window

  • its not fake it took 600 tries

the wheel were weighted with books

  • actualy i looked it up and its 2000 trys

  • Amazing, I just read that it took 606 takes to do this jewel.

    Congratulations to the makers =).

  • hjhuh

  • Commercial is awesome. The windshield wipers? Freaky as hell.

  • how did the tires roll up hill?!?!

  • Utilizing momentum and tricks with weights, I would imagine.

  • That always bugged me too! Never could work that bit out.

  • it was with wheel weights. Apparently that bit was one of the hardest bits to do getting the weighting exactly correct.

  • Lots and lots of tries.

The fact that NONE of it is CG and ALL of it is real...

Doing it for the art, indeed!

  • You came here from TV Tropes too, eh?

I agree, absolute awe. Old Mr. Goldberg would be proud.

  • TV Tropes user here. They really DID do this for the art ... and it's the most awesome thing I've ever seen.

  • The real question though is, is it a good ad? It doesn't exactly make me want to rush out to buy a Honda, even if I needed a car.

  • A good point. It did *not* make me want to rush out for a Honda, but I was genuinely impressed at the ad nonetheless. One might say that the team behind this at least knows HOW to do stuff for the art of it, and not solely for the money.

  • @loperspest People are sat around talking about it even now. That makes it a good ad pretty much by definition.

Like Cilit Bang, but less obnoxious by a factor of infinity.

  • @MrWednesday3

As a work of art, yes. But advertisement is more then just recognition of itself, it is also meant to drive, no pun intended for once, desire for the product been sold. In this case, Honda automobiles. Impressive? Oh gods, yes. It is Pure Awesome in more ways then I want to count. But effective?

    Debatable at best.

  • yes, its real but it is cut up into 4 sections because the warehouse they done it in wasn't big enough. -my uncle helped produce this ad

  • cooooool

  • very funny lol!

  • Comment removed

  • what song is used at the end?

  • RAPPERS DELIGHT

  • oooh my god! is this real?!

  • yeah, even the tires going up the ramp. all real.

  • 1:23 is funny

  • ha ha ha the window wipers

  • this is real cuz ive got it on dvd and it showes u all how they made it

  • I dont get how the tires just magically got pushed up the platform is that fake or not

  • I'm pretty sure that they're weighted, specifically more weight on the top inside of the tire, so as soon as it is touched the weight will create momentum and the tire will roll upwards.

  • Oh im stupid thnx

  • the seat belts pulled it up

  • hahah! cooooool@

  • this is soo amazing cuz none of it is computer generated its kinda hard 2 belive but its true and it took honda 606 tries to get it cuz everything has to be perfect

  • Yeah, it's entirely possible. All that has to happen is that the wheel's centre of mass has to go down. They probably have some weight perfectly balanced above the hub of the wheel, so that when another wheel hits it, it gets moved slightly, so gravity pulls the weight downwards, causing the wheel to move up a bit.

  • Thanks, Bill Nye! =D

  • What can I say, science rules!

  • xDDD

  • The wheels roll up because of centrifugal force.

  • It was shot on a slope so the weels would rol like that

  • It is real. I watched this about 3 years ago and they had mention it tooke them over 250 times to get it just right. (It does seem a bit wierd with those wheels rolling upwards though doesn't it?)

  • Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Everything went just perfectly then the wheels stop and starrt rolling up. :) doesn't make sense.

  • it isn't so weird if you know there's a big weight in the top half of the wheel...

  • Took 'em 606 tries, to be exact. About 3 months and 6 million dollars.

  • It's Rappers Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.

  • That can't be real? Can it? =(

  • rapper's delight.

  • what is that song called? anyone know comment back!

  • No sorry man, no idea. :-/

  • @Trombonebrad

    Rapper's Delight.

  • another one bites the dust(by Queen)

  • it's sugar hill gang, rappers delight... not queen and there are several item in this ad that are edited. it is not completely kinetic but it's still very cool

  • Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang

  • Good Tune

  • @willytwat I realize this comment is 3 yrs old, but I'm responding anyways. The song is "Rappers Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang.

  • @willytwat the sugar hill gang rapper's delight

  • @willytwat The Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight

  • how long must they have taken to set that up? the effect is great though

  • eight months, 860 takes.

  • 606 takes and three months, actually.

  • what is that song called?
