"In writing my John Pilger piece which exposed the atrocities promulgated by Richard Nixon, I want all of you to watch this Gravel anti-war commercial. You will not see a more impassioned stance against this war and let me remind you it was Gravel himself who helped stop the blood-letting in Viet Nam through his filibuster of the draft. He was the one that disclosed and had published the Pentagon Papers. (cont)
Yet, this is the candidate that CNN and NBC did not allow you to hear from. One other Clinton supporter stated to me in a private email, "I don't care what he did thirty years ago" and I find that hubristic. Gravel alone stood up to a mad-man in Nixon while many of these other candidates folded like lawn-chairs and capitulated. They would not know bravery if it stared them in the face." Mary MacElveen
I cannot tire of Mr. Gravel saying that we need to wipe out the Federal Income Tax, wipe out the Federal Reserve, wipe out the Military Industrial Complex...and that the American people need to do that because they are the only ones who CAN do that! Does the new video have Mr. Gravel saying these things?
One of the reasons that I want Mr. Mike Gravel to be President is because he is such a good role model. He is a courageous and tenacious man! I want American boys to see a real man who cares about human beings in power.
Those who make the laws make the rules. Choose to become lawmakers. Cicero, as Mike Gravel has recounted, said that "Freedom is participation in power." Who's the libertarian now????
"As I approve of a youth that has something of the old man in him, so I am no less pleased with an old man that has something of the youth. He that follows this rule may be old in body, but can never be so in mind."-- Cicero
Senator Gravel, your enthusiasm, when speaking of the National Initiative and other issues, is that of a youth, and is certainly admirable. Please keep up the good work.
You've heard Mr. Gravel. It's up to Americans to make the changes needed. If a candidate asks you to vote for him or her and doesn't tell you that they can't make the changes they are talking about, they are just feeding you empty promises....Please, don't vote for one of the empty shells...
It was during this time that she began to find refuge in religion -- beginning the habit of praying aloud when scared or hurt. When her father once came to visit, she pleaded with him to help her. Soon after, Martinus Schryver purchased her for $105. He owned a tavern and, although the atmosphere was crude and morally questionable, it was a safer haven for Isabella.
She was first sold around age 9 when her second master (Charles Hardenbergh) died in 1808. She was sold to John Neely, along with a herd of sheep, for $100. Neely's wife and family only spoke English and beat Isabella fiercely for the frequent miscommunications. She later said that Neely once whipped her with "a bundle of rods, prepared in the embers, and bound together with cords."
Sojourner Truth was born in 1797 on the Colonel Johannes Hardenbergh estate in Swartekill, in Ulster County, a Dutch settlement in upstate New York. She was one of 13 children born to Elizabeth and James Baumfree, also slaves on the Hardenbergh plantation. She spoke only Dutch until she was sold from her family around the age of nine. Because of the cruel treatment she suffered at the hands of a later master, she learned to speak English quickly, but had a Dutch accent for the rest of her life.
"Be sure that it is not you that is mortal, but only your body. For that man whom your outward form reveals is not yourself; the spirit is the true self, not that physical figure which can be pointed out by your finger." Cicero
"Men decide far more problems by hate, love, lust, rage, sorrow, joy, hope, fear, illusion, or some other inward emotion, than by reality, authority, any legal standard, judicial precedent, or statute." Cicero THIS IS WHY THE PARTICIPATION AND VOTES OF WOMEN IS CRUCIAL TO OUR BEST FUTURE. THEY BEST KNOW THE PRICE AND THE VALUE OF CHILDREN.
Mr. Gravel is our LION of politics. He ROARS! Thank goodness!!! Why do you think people put lions out in front of their houses? TO PROTECT THEM from harm/evil. SUPPORT THE LION!!!
Voting for 1 of 3 main media horse candidates? Why? Diebold will assign election to McCain in either a Clinton or Obama contest. Allegiance of American people behind a third party candidate will prevent this from happening. Who is the only candidate who has told and is telling the American people the truth about government? Mike Gravel. Who has authored and keeps telling the American people about the way to secure their freedom and their future via the the National Initiative? Mike Gravel
Where are those people who say "let's...." and then disappear? If you make the commitment, follow through. I made the commitment to 1,000 then 2,000 and now I am leaving it up to the rest of you.
Doesn't it bother you that the President of the United States, Bush, is contemptuous of you? Did you see the video clip where he holds up his third finger and then laughs with a smirk? That's what they've been doing to us!!! Or Cheney when he's shown saying "So" when he's told that most Americans are against the occupation/war on Iraq? We have people in government who don't give a damn what Americans think so whose government is it? National Initiative, National Initiative, National Ini....
The people who are in power are wrong. We are right. We have to discipline them instead of letting them discipline us because we are right. They will continue to take away our rights if WE LET THEM. They cannot do that if we don't let them.
Fortunately, for us, counting votes is pretty simple: pen, paper, human beings counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... Will you not volunteer to count votes for an hour or two at your polling place or in the local county office where mail ballots are received?
Do you know how many black folks in America thought they would never get the vote, that they would never get their real freedom? Do you know how long it took to convince people they could make change and THEN, finally, they did! Why do you think that DIEBOLD miscounting machines had to become part of the voting process? Because the people CAN make their will be known.
Choose the Grandfather of your country wisely. It is no coincidence that during this time of great transition, one has returned to guide. Which river? The murderous present course of destruction (McCain); a trip back to the past to the dead Constitution (Paul); an adventure into the future with respect for human life and our planet the paramount concern (Mike Gravel). You CAN decide if you make the effort.
Mr. Gravel is giving Americans a plan to help them gain control over their reality instead of continuing to try to live through additional nightmares given to them by corrupt organizations (Enron, etc.) and institutions (media, government, military) that have betrayed us as people. We have been betrayed. Move out of denial. Accept the truth. Go forward.
The National Initiative is the ship that we will need to steer our course from 2009 onward. Let's say we do have an economic disaster. Is the federal government going to help? That has been infiltrated by corporations determined to kill its effectiveness (ie take a look at Katrina). Are the states going to help? To some degree but they won't have enough resources. Same with local government. Now where you gonna go? To the people...but the people can't make laws.
Mr. Gravel also has a degree in economics from Columbia University. He has continued to study economics throughout his adult life. He was on the Finance Committee in the Senate. He does know what he is talking about...
We don't need Obama's phony promise of change agenda. We need TRUTH commissions right here in the good ole' USA. ae911truth is one place to start. Petition Congress for a new investigation of 9/11, an investigation with subpoena power. The first (and only) investigation which had to be forced on Bush Administration by 9/11 families had no subpoena power.
I prefer the National Initiative to economic collapse, increased hunger and poverty and human suffering and despair. We have been betrayed on all counts (media, corporations, government, military). How can people be so stupid as to actually vote for any of the candidates endorsed from the two parties that have caused this mess? Doing so is just basically indicating delusion.
Any form of abusive power which seeks to keep humans in a lower level state of consciousness or existence is an impediment to our higher consciousness (to our human evolution). How can people evolve individually or as groups if they are doomed to 12 hour farm or factory days? It exhausts them. More privileged workers fill their "spare" hours with television hypnosis.
gravelin08 - exactly. so much of democracy depends on everyone carrying out their duty. since it is clear that that is rarely being done now, we must find a way to improve upon democracy. the solution is the ni4d. anything else is just temporary
Well, we could have total societal breakdown which is where we are headed. Now that corporations have overtaken government, there is no FDR style government to rescue us by pumping money into the economy to stimulate it and provide jobs. The current, corrupt government is pumping money into the economy simply to keep it afloat long enough for them to extract the remaining wealth and get out of power and get over to Dubai with Halliburton.
"Our three branches of government have become like an unstable chair, a three-legged chair. The founders could not have envisioned how much money and special interests would corrupt the political process. Giving us Americans legislative power will put forth the fourth leg of our stool and make it stable." -Mike Gravel
Mike Gravel is right. So much of our system of government depended on Congress doing its duty: ie not delegating its powers to the Executive Branch: it has done so with its war powers and with its legislative powers (or what's an Executive Order?). Also, they have failed to impeach, another duty. So Congress has become corrupt and the people must now represent their own interests and provide the corrections needed.
Nice call, that! I believe that some people just tape off the T.V., or their computer as well. I don't have a computer cam or video cam. I know, I'm living in the dark ages, right!
I agree with you and it doesn't matter whether you are gay or straight or whatever. We all deserve to be able to protect our loved ones in life and after death. It's about respecting other people's right to be who they are...What if I had a religion that abhorred greedy people and then I tried to persecute them and discriminate against them (if there was enough power to do that), it would be stupid and a waste of time. People can't be repressed ultimately. They can for a while but not forever.
Paul likes necessary and/or declared wars according to the Constitution. He has not talked about downsizing the military per se but only removing troops from Iraq, bases in other countries, etc.
I believe someone posted how to take a vid off of youtube (sgrimes, perhaps) on the homepage? Perhaps it was you that asked, I don't recall, but maybe Skyler or 'Bama could help you out. I am definitely a novice at videos and could give you no help whatsoever!
I truly believe that RP is anti-war. He has a few other things that bother me, but I believe that he is basically decent. He definitely is no Mike Gravel, though!
He's not really anti-war though. He's more like Obama who is not against all wars. Paul thinks that China and Russia are "deadly" enemies (I think because they have military capacity and sorry to say are not "Christian" though the latter is definitely my speculation.) Anyway, Paul rode the military after he was drafted and served because he was being paid well.
the book with the "my america" cover is listed as "mike gravel's political education" on another website. i think everything with a "my america" cover is just "my america."
this is weird. on amazon, gravel has a book called "a political odyssey" with a cover that says "my america." he also has a book called "the kingmakers." but there's no fourth book on amazon.
Perhaps Gravel has not yet completed the manuscript yet and there's no tentative release date for the book by a publisher yet. I would expect the foruth one to come out after the Kingmakers in Nov/Dec???
Ron Paul has all these poor suckers thinking that they are part of a "revolution" when he's only talking to them about taking them backward to the past!!! It's disgusting and typically Orwellian how the right uses this kind of language to make it seem they are doing something they are not or not doing something that they are. War is peace.
Speaking of books...uhh...hmmm... Ron Paul has a new book called "Revolution: A manifesto" Sorry to Ron Paul fans but I have said for a long time that Ron Paul is a trojan horse. He's like flypaper that gets any flying insect not just the flies. He had the money and the Republican machine. Gravel had neither. Gravel is THE anti-war candidate and ANTI-MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX candidate. That's one of the main differences between Paul and Gravel on the military/war issue.
I disagree. I believe that Ron Paul is definitely also against the MIC, which is why he also was marginialized. I disagree with RP in that I don't want to leave everything up to the states because I live in a conservative state, and my state has already made a marriage equal a man and a woman. Now, the obvious question would be, smh, are you a lesbian? The answer would be a resounding NO! But, I believe that we should all be equal under the Constituion!
now that i realize it, i only preordered two books of gravel's. i preordered "the kingmakers" and "a political odyssey." "my america" doesn't seem to be on amazon, but the cover of my america is being used for the picture of "a political odyssey"
Children would come first. We treat them terribly. They are last in our society now. The economic machine makes slaves of their parents. The schools treat them like computers to be programmed with the right data. There's too much television and video games and not enough real, significant interaction/relationships with humans who have time to care and love them and help them grow.
Yes, the total this year will be four: Citizen Power was released in January. My America is due out in May. I think Kingmakers comes out in the fall - Sept Oct? and then there is the fourth book, a mystery to us all as of yet.
Mr. Gravel has two additional books coming out this year. The third one is called something like the Kingmakers: the role of media in making the President (sorry I can't recall the title exactly...too tired, now...). I don't know the name of the fourth one or the contents.
My America would also be tolerant of all others regardless of sex, creed, race, or sexual orientation. I am fear that this country is headed toward Christian morality. Believe it or not, I was raised a Catholic, but I have always been taught that there are many paths- no one is more correct than anyone else!
In my America, people would feel secure and free. It's so said that the effects of the National Security Council have been to make Americans more insecure than ever before...like so many things in our society, it really should be named National Insecurity Council...The Security and Prosperity Agreement between Mexico and USA should be called Insecurity and Poverty Agreement.

I say, Nay, Filibuster gravel's video's 24/7. Try to match Gravel's sturdy filibustering in congress before us. Now that's a goal.

Gravel saying these things?
gravelin08 3 years ago
One of the reasons that I want Mr. Mike Gravel to be President is because he is such a good role model. He is a courageous and tenacious man! I want American boys to see a real man who cares about human beings in power.
gravelin08 3 years ago 2
let's get ready for the new video. i think it's safe to say that we can all take a rest from this filibuster until the new video comes out.

Sojourner Truth, an incredible human being, who triumphed over the circumstances of her life.
gravelin08 3 years ago
It was during this time that she began to find refuge in religion -- beginning the habit of praying aloud when scared or hurt. When her father once came to visit, she pleaded with him to help her. Soon after, Martinus Schryver purchased her for $105. He owned a tavern and, although the atmosphere was crude and morally questionable, it was a safer haven for Isabella.
gravelin08 3 years ago
She was first sold around age 9 when her second master (Charles Hardenbergh) died in 1808. She was sold to John Neely, along with a herd of sheep, for $100. Neely's wife and family only spoke English and beat Isabella fiercely for the frequent miscommunications. She later said that Neely once whipped her with "a bundle of rods, prepared in the embers, and bound together with cords."
gravelin08 3 years ago
Sojourner Truth was born in 1797 on the Colonel Johannes Hardenbergh estate in Swartekill, in Ulster County, a Dutch settlement in upstate New York. She was one of 13 children born to Elizabeth and James Baumfree, also slaves on the Hardenbergh plantation. She spoke only Dutch until she was sold from her family around the age of nine. Because of the cruel treatment she suffered at the hands of a later master, she learned to speak English quickly, but had a Dutch accent for the rest of her life.

Mike Gravel

Will you not volunteer to count votes for an hour or two at your polling place or in the local county office where mail ballots are received?
gravelin08 3 years ago
Do you know how many black folks in America thought they would never get the vote, that they would never get their real freedom? Do you know how long it took to convince people they could make change and THEN, finally, they did! Why do you think that DIEBOLD miscounting machines had to become part of the voting process? Because the people CAN make their will be known.
gravelin08 3 years ago
Choose the Grandfather of your country wisely. It is no coincidence that during this time of great transition, one has returned to guide. Which river? The murderous present course of destruction (McCain); a trip back to the past to the dead Constitution (Paul); an adventure into the future with respect for human life and our planet the paramount concern (Mike Gravel). You CAN decide if you make the effort.
gravelin08 3 years ago
Go forward.
gravelin08 3 years ago
When the people make (or repeal) laws, they take charge of their own future. That is the National Initiative.
gravelin08 3 years ago
The National Initiative is the ship that we will need to steer our course from 2009 onward. Let's say we do have an economic disaster. Is the federal government going to help? That has been infiltrated by corporations determined to kill its effectiveness (ie take a look at Katrina). Are the states going to help? To some degree but they won't have enough resources. Same with local government. Now where you gonna go? To the people...but the people can't make laws.
gravelin08 3 years ago
Mr. Gravel also has a degree in economics from Columbia University. He has continued to study economics throughout his adult life. He was on the Finance Committee in the Senate. He does know what he is talking about...
gravelin08 3 years ago
We don't need Obama's phony promise of change agenda. We need TRUTH commissions right here in the good ole' USA. ae911truth is one place to start. Petition Congress for a new investigation of 9/11, an investigation with subpoena power. The first (and only) investigation which had to be forced on Bush Administration by 9/11 families had no subpoena power.
gravelin08 3 years ago
I prefer the National Initiative to economic collapse, increased hunger and poverty and human suffering and despair. We have been betrayed on all counts (media, corporations, government, military). How can people be so stupid as to actually vote for any of the candidates endorsed from the two parties that have caused this mess? Doing so is just basically indicating delusion.
gravelin08 3 years ago
Any form of abusive power which seeks to keep humans in a lower level state of consciousness or existence is an impediment to our higher consciousness (to our human evolution). How can people evolve individually or as groups if they are doomed to 12 hour farm or factory days? It exhausts them. More privileged workers fill their "spare" hours with television hypnosis.
gravelin08 3 years ago
gravelin08 - exactly. so much of democracy depends on everyone carrying out their duty. since it is clear that that is rarely being done now, we must find a way to improve upon democracy. the solution is the ni4d. anything else is just temporary
PhillyForGravel 3 years ago
Well, we could have total societal breakdown which is where we are headed. Now that corporations have overtaken government, there is no FDR style government to rescue us by pumping money into the economy to stimulate it and provide jobs. The current, corrupt government is pumping money into the economy simply to keep it afloat long enough for them to extract the remaining wealth and get out of power and get over to Dubai with Halliburton.

"Our three branches of government have become like an unstable chair, a three-legged chair. The founders could not have envisioned how much money and special interests would corrupt the political process. Giving us Americans legislative power will put forth the fourth leg of our stool and make it stable." -Mike Gravel
bongomang 3 years ago
Mike Gravel is right. So much of our system of government depended on Congress doing its duty: ie not delegating its powers to the Executive Branch: it has done so with its war powers and with its legislative powers (or what's an Executive Order?). Also, they have failed to impeach, another duty. So Congress has become corrupt and the people must now represent their own interests and provide the corrections needed.

I truly believe that RP is anti-war. He has a few other things that bother me, but I believe that he is basically decent. He definitely is no Mike Gravel, though!
smh2224 3 years ago

PhillyForGravel 3 years ago
He's not really anti-war though. He's more like Obama who is not against all wars. Paul thinks that China and Russia are "deadly" enemies (I think because they have military capacity and sorry to say are not "Christian" though the latter is definitely my speculation.) Anyway, Paul rode the military after he was drafted and served because he was being paid well.

this is weird. on amazon, gravel has a book called "a political odyssey" with a cover that says "my america." he also has a book called "the kingmakers." but there's no fourth book on amazon.

Perhaps Gravel has not yet completed the manuscript yet and there's no tentative release date for the book by a publisher yet. I would expect the foruth one to come out after the Kingmakers in Nov/Dec???
gravelin08 3 years ago
Ron Paul has all these poor suckers thinking that they are part of a "revolution" when he's only talking to them about taking them backward to the past!!! It's disgusting and typically Orwellian how the right uses this kind of language to make it seem they are doing something they are not or not doing something that they are. War is peace.
gravelin08 3 years ago
Speaking of books...uhh...hmmm... Ron Paul has a new book called "Revolution: A manifesto" Sorry to Ron Paul fans but I have said for a long time that Ron Paul is a trojan horse. He's like flypaper that gets any flying insect not just the flies. He had the money and the Republican machine. Gravel had neither. Gravel is THE anti-war candidate and ANTI-MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX candidate. That's one of the main differences between Paul and Gravel on the military/war issue.
gravelin08 3 years ago

Children would come first. We treat them terribly. They are last in our society now. The economic machine makes slaves of their parents. The schools treat them like computers to be programmed with the right data. There's too much television and video games and not enough real, significant interaction/relationships with humans who have time to care and love them and help them grow.

PhillyForGravel 3 years ago
Yes, the total this year will be four: Citizen Power was released in January. My America is due out in May. I think Kingmakers comes out in the fall - Sept Oct? and then there is the fourth book, a mystery to us all as of yet.
