  • He just fascinates me I can get enough of his playing!

  • I thought I once read a quote from Alessi saying "never get your eyebrows into your playing"..maybe that was rochut lol

  • How in the hell could someone dislike this!?

Great composition, great soloist, great ensemble, great conductor. Thank you internet for making my day that much better :)

  • :O That was a very nice high F at the end...

  • do u kno any website dat has this sheet music?

  • It's alllllllll in the eyebrows. ^-^

  • Hickeys music. Sorry

  • But........ It goes for 5000 on jockeys music . Com. Lol

  • pure bliss

  • I L O V E his sound!!! when i listen to this i always go practising!!!

  • I know of a Bach 50 T 3 L that's over 8000 dollars.

  • @McFlury9687 rioff

  • @McFlury9687 ripoff

  • This piece sounds great with wind ensemble! Is there a video of the full performance?

  • So gooooooooooooooood!

  • far too short!!

  • Magnifique

  • The end of this is the shit. No joke.

  • What does everyone think about Greenhoe trombone?

  • Greenhoe is great!

  • Alessi is GREAT TROMBONIST. I THINK THE BEST EVER. GREAT SOUND.

  • I think this is best clip of Alessi on here! I'm not a huge Ewazen fan myself, but he just sounds wonderful on this.

  • His tone is AMAZING!

  • Great post thank you

    I have a Conn 88H

Keep it on the slide from Earl

  • Alessi is the face of edwards, but he plays thein as well. He has done a cd with ben van dijk playing thein, and he plays the thein alto trombone model all the time. It seems only logical if you were in his position to get yourself a thein as quick as possible because they are a totally different sensation to play, thein trombones are a work of art.

  • Edwards

  • What is this trombone?

    Edwards or Bach?

  • I'm pretty sure it's the Edwards.

  • is edwards a good trombone company

  • its the GREATEST trombone brand out there

bro, they cost around 4 grand or even more,

  • O_o wow...maybe in about 15 years XD

  • actually, that's debatable. Edwards is good, however Conn is also nice and Shires are spectacular if you get them with the TruBore it's like not even having a valve. Kanstul makes nice horns as well. Those are all for roughly $3-6000. However THE BEST trombones are made by Thein, a German brass company. google them and check THOSE prices.

  • @blac- I actually prefer Shires over Edwards. Considering that the 350 was designed by Steve Shires when he worked for Edwards in the early 90's, he's made a lot of improvements since then on his own line.

I personally think Shires is the best out there, but that's just my opinion.

  • Heres my way of thinking- Edwards is the best becuase Joe Alessi can play any trombone brand he wants and he could get any trombone company to make him a model of his own. But he chose Edwards.

  • Very good point. It's all a matter of taste.

  • @hewyc1 He also gets payed stupid amounts of money by Edwards for playing their horn... That might have something to do with it too

  • @Itsdakinebrah I agree. I love all the different options you can get on them. Like how my bell is half yellow brass half gold brass. It's amazing.

  • @Itsdakinebrah Yea its basically a battle between Shires and Edwards now. lol I own an Shires and have to say. Bach 42 vs my Custom Shires. My Shires blows everything about my Bach out of the water.

  • @Alba5814 Again, it's all a matter of taste. I'm a bit displeased with shires right now considering their customer service. I had a terrible experience with them (it took about 8 months for them to get me my main leadpipe that they "overlooked" sending me (after I contacted them about it multiple times). The horn plays great overall. Sometimes I wish I still had my old Conn 88H though.

  • I vote getzen. for bass trombone anyway =/

  • bass trombone all the way(:

    woo

  • yesssssssssssssss

  • I vote for Rath Trombones from Huddersfield UK

  • As blacbamboo said its debatable its all what the user prefers I love my Bach but I know others prefer Edwards. My friend only uses Yahmaha's. An old trombone player that played with my schools musical last year only uses his old conn so its all up to user preference.

  • What is last sound??

  • Comment removed

  • last note is an F

  • shut up yes it is.

    get the sheetmusic

  • This music is wonderful!

  • omg.. chill. its his edwards

  • Bach 42K

  • oh really?? What is a Bach 42K ?

    mouthpiece?

  • it was his horn before the edwards

  • Im 12 years old and i got to play with him at a local trombone event. not only did i play with him, but he tought some useful stuff!

  • bitchling im so jealous dude

  • lol

  • please put on all live version!

  • this is such a great player perfect all the way through this come from a trumpet player

  • everyone should get this music and try.

    its so sick.

  • It is: Columbus State University

  • what csu is this?

  • Comment removed

  • my professor studied under him way back in the day, he said alessi played on a bach 42g.

  • I believe he played on a bach.

  • Alright!

It couldn't be easier for Alessi.

To play High F is as easy as drinking water for him, just listen to Bolero where he goes, actually only to D flat, but still, not a problem!

  • hahaha....jk guys. MY friend goes to CSU and told me all about it. I play trombone too... I just find it hilarious to say things are fake and get all this HATE MAIL from people... it's my entertainment for the summer.

  • Joe Alessi is an amazing player. Take some time and check out his web site for practice tips. Better yet attend one of his seminars. Their is definitely nothing fake about his playing. I have watched him live ten performances, and through practices. An absolute great person, and great player.

  • I was going to comment on what warmth Joe plays with, but then i read that comment by wedontsing and i am finding it hard not to draw attention to his stupidity.

  • That was SO fake.... Especially at the end... NO ONE can play that high. It's not possible. All he did was record it on the computer then changed the pitch... FAKE!!!

  • Dude, it's Joe Alessi. Trust me, he can play that high, and higher. It's only an F. Besides, that was a live performance. I have the cd. That is my wind ensemble. It's Joe Alessi. Come on now.

  • I just want to congratulate you on the the most assine comment I've ever seen on Youtube...Congratulations!!! Stupid, it's not that hard...whew, I just can't get over it!!!

  • *asinine

  • dragonlasers123, you're stupid too! Playing twice as high as an F5 would get you over three octaves above the piano...just stupid! People really need to start thinking about what comments they put on Youtube-this site is getting lame because of it.

  • you ass

  • LOL

  • You would look into some more actual trombone recordings. F isn't that high, and is writing in quite a few solos (or thrown in like at the end of Blue Bells...) Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it's not possible.

  • This guy is my IDOL!!! i heard hid T Bone Concerto and he inspired me to work harder on the trombone. I cant imagine myself being as good as him but he is the MAN. bravo ;-)

  • Alessi is probably the best trombone player in the world,he has mastered all the difficulties of this instrument...my opinion is: let's listen to him and get inspired by him, then try to apply he's way of blowing air and his sound.he his just the complete trombonist!bravo bravo

  • the best.........

  • Alessi has the best tone in my opinion. I think Alessi does everything perfect. He is like the god of trombone players. I do have one complaint though, Alessi does not play any soft. He is always in the MF or louder. If something is writen in PP he plays it MF...I don't like that! Although, when it's writen at FF he plays it right! I like dynamics. It makes music sound so much better!

  • solo performance dynamics differ from standard dynamics

  • Yes, I'm 100% aware of that being true, but even then, he still plays to loud. He plays like he is blowing down a wall. But all in all, he is an awesome player!!!

  • I guess that he doesn't want his tone to suffer by playing relatively quietly. I mean, he would still sound beautiful, just a little bet less so, perhaps. Don't get me wrong, I understand what you mean about the range of dynamics not being broad enough.

  • after listening to all of Alessi's albums and most of Lindbergs and various others... Alessi and Bousfield for me are superb.

  • lindberg is much better than bousfield..

  • I prefer Bousfield's tone before Lindberg's. Listen to his Arthur Pryor album and then hear him playing Bolero up an octave on the Yoshimatsu album... Lindberg is technically brilliant and a pleasure to listen to. It really is a matter of personal preference and I would not go so far as to say one is "better" than the other.

  • Lindberg and Alessi are going to have completely different tones.. totally different fields -- solo vs. orchestral.. each has refined the desired sound for each.. alessi displays the perfect orchestra tone, and lindberg's unique interpretations and impressive stage presence makes his solos incredible.. alessi does have a better tone and a more refined technique, but i would expect that since he's in the NY phil.. lindberg makes the solo his own and goes everywhere with it.. both are incredible

  • Alessi is world class, he wouldn't be kept in NY phil for so long if he were not! Listen to Bousfield too though!

  • Alessi and Bollinger, the new voices of trombone!

  • i like how he goes up with the note! thats high and still sounds good!

  • divino....

  • Whoever said they have perfect pitch I have it too. As long as the note is within reason, I can tell what note it is. I am still perfecting my tuning skills though.

  • He is the best!!!

  • omg i can only go up to high b-flat =(

Alessi is one of the best! go Joe!

  • yes, i agree with you guys!

    they are however grand trombonists. ;D it's not a D, crwv. it's f(2). i have perfect pitch :)

  • I agree, I believe that we should stop comparing. Everybody has something to bring to the table. Lindberg is very unique in that there is nothing like him, and Alessi is unique in his own way, but it seems like everyone trys to use him as a standard or comparison. Which in my opinion can lead to a lack of originality...werd!

  • The beauty of being a musician is that there doesn't have to be a right way, or someone who is the best. Alessi and Lindberg are both great, just as inspired said, and there are many other great trombone players out there. Debating who is better makes it all seem like its a race, when really we should just enjoy the awesomeness that is Trombone playing. Remember, there was a time in these guy's lives when they couldn't even play a regular F, so keep practicing!!!!!

  • How high does that go?

Sounds like a D or so by ear, but I don't have perfect pitch so...

I think we should stop comparing trombonists and just appreciate their differences.

  • at the end he hits a high f.

  • Yes,that's exactly what I wanted to answer him.

  • You don't have to have perfect pitch, just pick up a free music writing program that will play pitches(Finale Notepad, Scorch, or whatever). That's what half the people who claim to have perfect pitch on here do anyway. Agreed on the last sentence though.

  • thnx bodo... i think lindberg is better with his technique but alessi has better tone quality.

  • when is his cd coming out and do you know what its called?

  • today the 08.01.2008 theCD is released

the CD is called "Visions of light"

  • smart ass?

  • Joseph Alessi is the best trombonist I have herd.

  • Are you a sheep dog?

  • Lindberg and Alessi are much much better than Thomas Horch,I think Branimir Slokar or Nitzan Haroz are better to compare with Lindberg And Alessi.

  • i like Thomas Horch. he is great player.

but joseph alessi and christian lindberg are virtuoso.

  • i love his white hot sound.

  • Thomas Horch is a great trombonist. I would argue that Joe Alessi is the best trombonist living today. I have seen Alessi and lindberg both live, and by professional opinion as a trombonist is Alessi is stronger

  • who the hell is Thomas Horch???? what a random name to throw in with Alessi and Lindberg!

  • idk why you think this band needs help i mean joe himself picked this band to help record his CD

  • I'd say that we could have a great debate on who the worlds best trombone player is and there'd probably be 3 names that came up a lot and that would be Christian Lindberg, Joseph Alessi, and Thomas Horch.

  • What about Jorgen van Rijen>

  • Jorgen van Rijen is amazing!I like him more than Alessi...with Lindberg together they're on the top for me:)

  • OH yeah,He's a Great player!

I like him more than Thomas Horch.

  • worlds best no doubt

  • Joe Alessi is who everyone talks about at UMass. Prof. Sporny always worships the dude. His recordings are flawless, too. But for someone who is so world reknown, alessi is SO boring to watch. its like an amazingly clear tone clashing with the most textbook "musicality" and then wrapped up in the most boring man to ever live... :-(

  • Actually, I believe that you are referring to the fact that he has mastered himself to the point that all motion has a point. There are no superfluous motions - Alexander technique and Feldenkrias - amazing.

Concerning motion: excessive motion a good trombonist does not make.

  • be careful...

  • lol

  • wohoho, the band needs some work man. alessi's acceptable as usual

  • That is a really cool piece! Alessi's clarity amazes me.

  • i was there at that performance it was great...and mastabone did you go to the trombone festival at uncg this year i think i might have met you.

  • Yes, I was at the trombone festival.

  • Joe Alessi has always been my favorite trombone player and inspired me to start playing the instrument. Its worked out pretty well, I'm a sophomore in UNCG's music education program. Joe is the man!

  • ...oh wait there it is...thanks, SchwobSchool!

  • SchwobSchool,you are a good man!

thank you for uploading this movie

    may god bless you

  • Wow! very impressive!!

  • Man he's good...anyone know the name of the piece.

  • The piece is "Visions of Light" by Eric Ewazen

  • Excelente interpretación de Joe Alessi, una lleyenda viviente del trombón,ojalá que suban la obra completa, gracias por subirla.
