I know people like to bad mouth D'Antoni...but lets remember he got his team to the West Finals in 05-06 (05 losing to a great veteran-laden Spurs team, 06 he didnt have Amare the entire season yet still got the Suns deep into the playoffs)....07 there is an excellent chance the Suns win it all if those stupid suspensions dont happen after Horry hipchecked Nash into the scorers table at the end of Game 4
@dabomb2045 That's true, but he dosen't stress defense in his system. Seven seconds or less is good for an offensive team, but defense win championships. Every team that won the finals in the past few years has played great defense in order to win.
Offense is good, but Defense wins championships. You need to stress defense and rebounding in order to win. Putting points on the board is important too, but getting stops in clutch situations are always key.
And the year after this began the worst decade in Knicks basketball, and to make it worse for Knicks fans, the Nets were the best team in town (and one of the top in the NBA) during that time.
if the knicks can get a center this offseason it'll be a huge gain for NY, and thats why i think next year will be as fun as the '99 season was. I think the knicks will finish with a 57-25 record next year, making them the 3 seed or the 2 seed. or maybe even the number 1 seed!
@BROOKLYNBALLER45 If you're talking about that "L" sign they would do with their arms, then that's just something they picked up from Larry Johnson. L short for Larry.
@RLiz08 they were never going to beat the Spurs, not with Tim Duncan in his PRIME, and a still VERY good David Robinson. They just didnt have the bigs to combat that spurs front line
@lookatmetal Yes it will d antoni has no drive for us to win we need a coach to make us a contender somone who can put fire in our ass Jackson did with L.A and Riley did when he was here
The Knicks are going to be an elite team. Maybe not right now, but in a few years they will have another shot at winning a championship. Al least they're doing the right things now. Winning, playing team basketball, and defense is key.
lol. at some that say sprewell was the spark of that team ? Yes, I agree he had a good season "That Year" But The only one that use to give that team a Spark was John Starks ! Maybe some of you are young to remember, But The Ewing, Starks, And oakley team where the most entertaining ones. I swear I've been dishearten ever since they traded those guys, And The knicks are idiots they let every valuable player go? Which is why they are, where they at.
i love the knicks even through the struggle. they havent been the same since they traded patrick ewing for god forsaken vin baker. i really think its a curse. but this was not only when the knicks were good this is when basketball was GREAT! it sucks now. fuck kobe fuck lebron. its not like when we had jordan, barkley ewing malone etc. legends compared to bitchy millionaires.
@terrific you stole every single word from my mouth, this was basketball at its best.
Take me back to these days, i'll trade in 2000-2010 nba for one game of 96 97 knicks, when van gundy and pat riley going at it , with chris dudley pissing everyone off because he cant make a bucket, and Allan houston and Spree battling the good fight to keep their team alive. RIP basketball era, and fuck you ISIAH THOMAS, i want gundy back.
First 8 seed? Sorry, but the Knicks weren't a true 8 seed. If they played 82 games that year, I think the Knicks woulda finished 4th or 3rd in the East.
@slamminadam85 AGREED 110%! I'm a RABID Knick fan myself, and it just doesnt feel right without them in the playoffs... But that wont be the case next year! Their roster will be 10 times better than it is now, and we'll probably make it past the first round! who knows! they could be the next nba champions next year!
man i used to live in new york i live in orlando know am a magic fan but man this brings back memories i always wanted the knicks to win a title but never got there
I just found out the Knicks' 2010 summer salary cap is bigger than I expected! its $56.1 million bucks! That's enough to get LeBron and Chris Bosh at the same time! FUCK YES
If the Knicks don't get LeBron this July, I think the players that they would get would be maybe Amar'e Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer and Marcus Camby. Boozer and Camby probably ARE coming to the Knicks cuz I read it in an article the other day
The Knicks may be out of the playoffs this year, but next year their gonna have a WAY better season. Their win-loss record will have more wins than losses, they'll have a much better roster, and they are gonna go to the playoffs for the first time since 2004!
This was a tough year for me as a Rockets fan #1 Because the #8 Knicks and Spurs played in Finals. Hated both teams
Wanted Spurs to win but of course hated them. Wanted Knicks to win but had Knicks won then the 1995 #6 Rockets would have been forgotten and replaced by the #8 Knicks are lowest seed to win the NBA title.
At the end the Spurs won which I hated but was glad the #8 didn't win
Just a bit of a coincidence. The last 2 times the Knicks went to NBA was against Texas teams and lost both
With all due respect, Willis Reed was "MR. KNICK!" I've never forgiven Ewing for Game 7 against Indiana in '95 when he had a clear path to the basket, and, instead of slamming it home, Ewing goes for a ridiculous finger roll AND MISSES!
Ewing leaving the bench at the end of Game 5 against Miami in '97 also disappointed me for his lack of discipline.
Reed, Frazier, DeBusschere, Bradley, and Earl the Pearl were the REAL MR. KNICKS!
@vccstudents I understand where you're coming from but I'm a huge Patrick Ewing fan and that's not saying I take anything away from all the other great Knicks but you can't blame him for one shot like that. One moment doesn't undo all he gave to the team...and as for the fight in '97 I don't blame him for leaving the bench...you can say what you want about discipline but with the adrenaline going, in the playoffs I think just about anyone could give in to the urge to back up your team mate
I won't necessarily argue with you, but tell me Shaq, Duncan, Kareem, Wilt, or Willis would have taken a shot like that in that situation. Unfortunately, that's the lasting image I have of him i.e. coming up short.
As for the '97 fiasco, do you remember how Van Gundy kept people from leaving the bench the next two years in the playoffs?
@vccstudents I'm not saying that it was a smart move to get involved in the fight...it wasn't...but to be honest if I was in his place I probably would have done the same thing. I mean if you want a perfect example of how someone can do something w/o thinking about it in that kind of situation just remember Van Gundy hanging on Alonzo Morning's leg to break up a fight between guys twice his size
I can see your point, and you can see mine. The fact is my favorite Knick memory of all time is Reed carrying that team to the 70 title literally on one leg! I can understand the adrenaline, but at the same time, he already had 12 seasons in the league and after all of Phil Jackson's mind games should have known what Riley was capable of.
@CoolerKing37 Fifteen years ago you don't remember how this BUM was booed off the court after that shot! Go back and review some history instead of being a 24-year-old know it all. Maybe then you wouldn't be such a foul-mouthed loser who thinks because he's 24 and on his own he knows it all! By the way, I'm happily married to a great lady with a child, so get your facts straight before you pass judgment on me.
@vccstudents lmao. You just love living in the past, don't you? Still angry about a game that happened during the fucking Clinton administration. Are you also still pissed the Knicks lost the Finals to the Lakers 40 years ago too? Ya queer. You're shitty family is probably embarrassed.
@CoolerKing37 Actually, you mental midget, the Knicks beat the Lakers in the Finalsd 40 years ago, but you're too busy sticking your head up your behind to check your facts. Obviously your father let the best part of you run down his leag!
Actually to me when they let Ewing and spree go that was the end, Its a shame what they have become, though they are having the best year in a long time this year, I just want a playoff appearance.
can somebody answer why the FUCK we let SPREE go after this season? i refuse to watch the knicks after not missing a game in 5 years for that. especially after the most dominant single handed performance ive ever seen vs SA
sprewell is the reason why the knicks arent as good as they use to be. They are missing the sprewell spark. Hes still a free agent they should pick him up. theyed have the spark bac
i still love the knicks no matter what. suck or not the games at the garden are entertaining very night i watch it, i love watching knicks games on a rainy day.
24hrs old & ive only witnessed 2 nba finals appearances from my fave team. i hope 1 day i can experience 1 of my fave teams (knicks/mets/jets) win a championship. i jokingly say this all the time but in allota ways its true "I have terminal cancer rootin 4 da teams i root 4" but i still love them all!
U Knick fans neva gave Spree a chance. Yet he, LJ, Houston and Camby got u to a Finals w/o Ewing. Goes to show u...sometimes a blessing falls into ur lap when u least expect it.
No Patrick, injured Chris Childs, injured Larry Johnson and even though they only won one game in the finals, every one of those games was competitive. Warriors in every sense of the word and heart that was second to none. I really miss those days!
It's videos like this that make me proud to be a Knick fan. The true Knick fan sticks with their team through the dark days and knows eventually there is a light at the end of the tunnel.WIth the recent success of the Knicks this past week, and the 2010 Free Agent class...The Knicks will be back to the promise land. Man the garden is electric when the Knicks are winning.I cant wait until these days again.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Knicks organization is stupid I mean if they got Iverson and Marbury earlier instead of all that money to Allan Houston they would have had the title. proably would have been the #1 team.
99 knicks = 95 rockets....shitty during the regular season but all heart in the playoffs. just think if pat ewing wasnt injured the knicks probably would have beat the spurs and become the only 8th seed ever to win the championship.
Even with Ewing, the Knicks would have been lucky to see a game 6. You remember the Spurs were coming off of back to back sweeps of the Lakers and the Blazers in the past two rounds. The Knicks had a nice run, but they wouldn't have had a shot against Duncan, Robinson, and the Spurs, even with Ewing.
Yes, Duncan and Robinson are soft players against a injured-all heart and so focused to win a championship like Patrick Ewing. Never forget how a proud heart team could make. 99' Knicks is the better example.
Duncan and Robinson SOFT? You have got to be kidding me. Besides, the Spurs have just as much heart, perhaps even more so, than these Knicks (Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson, Mario Elie, and Steve Kerr to give you some examples). I know the 99 Knicks were special, but COME ON!!!
now this is what a team is about no matter if u have superstars on ur team or not this video should be shown to the current knicks cuz obviously the knicks now need to learn something
Knicks have been horrible since they traded away Charlie Ward. Like you said, it's not about superstars, it's about role players who make things happen.
i was at game 4 against the hawks in round 2 (where chris dudley scored like 12 points)...i still have one of those 'GO NY! GO NY! GO!' towels in my room from that game...its so sad how crappy the team is now and nobody cares anymore.
No matter where I live, it's not embarrassing to be a Knicks fan. If someone makes fun of me, I refer to the '98-'99 season. First 8th seed to make it to the finals...<3
but you can't live on the past forever. a laker fan hustled me on facebook the other day, and i told her even though suck now, they still won 2 titles against your stupid lakers in the 70's
You must be proud to be a Knick fan and living in New York.
I remember a 1995 match against the Suns with Barkley at the Garden, i saw that in Espn here in Chile. Then i'm a fan of the Knicks. Yes, in the distance, but i always remember the good days, the crowd and the hope that ur Knicks will rise again.
man I watched every game of that 1999 run in the playoff even do they lost the finals it was one of the best knicks teams have I have ever seen we even almost made it back to the finals in 2000
@GradeAEnterprise come on, what are you 99 yrs old? I was born in 73. They haven't won since 73. It only takes 1 or 2 players to get to the playoffs every year...better than what we been doing for the passed few yrs.
yo this was them days man. didnt they start painting the streets with the go ny go ny go slogan? i think it was by 34th street. actually i remember seeing it still there about a yr ago when i was in ny. nonetheless this was straight classic yo. ya remember the chris dudley fight that year? or the time charlie ward blocked rik smits in this series and the ball went flying to the 3rd row. yea......good times.
- I remember Chris Childs was probably one of the most hated Knicks players by Knicks fans aside Dudley bricking every free throw LOL. Now that I think about it, he's a lot like Marbury.
- Where can I find those T-Shirts and Caps, I need me some of those as memorabilia.
I'd give anything to relive this moment.

liweiwu007 2 years ago
i still have that eastern conference champs t-shirt from 10 years ago.
liweiwu007 2 years ago

RandySWilson 3 years ago 3
things have been bad for the knicks ever since the traded ewing and thats what they get because you don't do legends like that!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Knicks organization is stupid I mean if they got Iverson and Marbury earlier instead of all that money to Allan Houston they would have had the title. proably would have been the #1 team.
mymanjay 3 years ago
99 knicks = 95 rockets....shitty during the regular season but all heart in the playoffs. just think if pat ewing wasnt injured the knicks probably would have beat the spurs and become the only 8th seed ever to win the championship.
666bushisnazi666 3 years ago
Uh.... are you sure?
Even with Ewing, the Knicks would have been lucky to see a game 6. You remember the Spurs were coming off of back to back sweeps of the Lakers and the Blazers in the past two rounds. The Knicks had a nice run, but they wouldn't have had a shot against Duncan, Robinson, and the Spurs, even with Ewing.
dknights411 3 years ago
Yes, Duncan and Robinson are soft players against a injured-all heart and so focused to win a championship like Patrick Ewing. Never forget how a proud heart team could make. 99' Knicks is the better example.
Konephoros 3 years ago
Duncan and Robinson SOFT? You have got to be kidding me. Besides, the Spurs have just as much heart, perhaps even more so, than these Knicks (Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson, Mario Elie, and Steve Kerr to give you some examples). I know the 99 Knicks were special, but COME ON!!!
dknights411 3 years ago
if you had 97 Ewing(the latest). That Ewing was beat down, ever since that injury he suffered in milwaukee.
Johnnywad89 2 years ago
He made a good 2000 season and playoffs too.
Was pure heart.
I miss him :(
Konephoros 2 years ago
now this is what a team is about no matter if u have superstars on ur team or not this video should be shown to the current knicks cuz obviously the knicks now need to learn something
Da1nOnlyKnightRider 3 years ago 2
Knicks have been horrible since they traded away Charlie Ward. Like you said, it's not about superstars, it's about role players who make things happen.
Since Me-bury has been PG, it ruined the Knicks.
elonepb 3 years ago
i was at game 4 against the hawks in round 2 (where chris dudley scored like 12 points)...i still have one of those 'GO NY! GO NY! GO!' towels in my room from that game...its so sad how crappy the team is now and nobody cares anymore.
delishadish 3 years ago 4
Yea sometimes I think I'm the last Knick fan actually living in NYC. It's almost embarrassing to say that you are a Knicks fan. It's crazy...
Hopefully we get some new young talent and in the next decade we can open it with a solid season and close this sad decade in the Knicks franchise.
GradeAEnterprise 3 years ago 3
I remember that. Game 4 against the Hawks, Chris Dudley had 14 points, 10 rebounds and outplayed Mutombo in that game.
realrocky8591 3 years ago
It was the same game that Ewing rested pretty much the entire second half.
realrocky8591 3 years ago
No matter where I live, it's not embarrassing to be a Knicks fan. If someone makes fun of me, I refer to the '98-'99 season. First 8th seed to make it to the finals...<3
supercocoa17 3 years ago
but you can't live on the past forever. a laker fan hustled me on facebook the other day, and i told her even though suck now, they still won 2 titles against your stupid lakers in the 70's
liweiwu007 2 years ago 5
That's right you tell her that...
And once King James joins us than we are gonna win more titles against those pesky laker losers.
nyatif 2 years ago
You must be proud to be a Knick fan and living in New York.
I remember a 1995 match against the Suns with Barkley at the Garden, i saw that in Espn here in Chile. Then i'm a fan of the Knicks. Yes, in the distance, but i always remember the good days, the crowd and the hope that ur Knicks will rise again.
Konephoros 3 years ago
@GradeAEnterprise I agree, thats why you say im a "95-99" knicks fan. lol
last thing before i leave, ISIAH THOMAS GO FUCK YOURSELF
Madara1012 1 year ago
man I watched every game of that 1999 run in the playoff even do they lost the finals it was one of the best knicks teams have I have ever seen we even almost made it back to the finals in 2000

I was a Knicks fan until Isiah Thomas. I loved Ewing.
WiltatKansas 3 years ago 5
Isiah Thomas = God's gift to the NY Knicks. Which is like saying anal herpes is a gift to the human body.
realrocky8591 3 years ago
This is as good as it will ever get in my lifetime as a Knicks fan. This franchise is complete garbage right now and in the future.
RegoLeo 3 years ago 3
Agreed. The Knicks were thee talk of the town above all other sports teams in NY.
Nothing will beat that '99 season even though it was only 50+ plus games and we lost in the Finals.
What a great way to close the greatest decade!
GradeAEnterprise 3 years ago 2

Side Notes Here:
- I remember Chris Childs was probably one of the most hated Knicks players by Knicks fans aside Dudley bricking every free throw LOL. Now that I think about it, he's a lot like Marbury.
- Where can I find those T-Shirts and Caps, I need me some of those as memorabilia.
