Nice video, thanks! I like the view from behind the wing. At the 1:17 mark you can see Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was locked up for so many years. Also, this landing was on runway 19.
very nice video. i got a question for you . when im on a plane we are always told to turn on our cameras 20 min ater takeoff and 20min before landin we turn em off and in many videos i see on youtube yu can see someone's video from the very beginin of the journey or tha landin part.my question is wen they tell us to turn em off are they just sayin that coz trhey are a bunch of bureaucratic freaks or do people just leave em on coz people dont follow rules lol.
@tawandrew Nah I think you only gotta turn off all those equipment which might affect the nav instruments? Like your handphone or laptop. Cameras are fine though. But I watched in a Nat Geo or Discovery programme that phones can't actually interfere with the nav equipment, although I doubt any airlines would change their rules anytime soon haha.
@aerowar Actually, all electronic devices must be switched off to avoid them 1) tumbling and tossing arond hurting someone and 2) potentially taking fire in case of an emergency.
However, most cabin crews these days don't strictly follow these rules as it is very unlikely to have any influence of the outcome of the accident.
Mobiles really don't interfere with the navigational devices of the aircraft. You can keep them switched on at any time, however you will lose signal at higher altitude.
it's normal for them to engage the spoilers (speed brakes) when slowing down and going to a lower altitude. Doesn't mean they are in overspeed neccisarily.
Nah...Singapore airlines always put on their spoilers on when they are landing..i think that they are decreasing to a lower altitude to make it safety urgh i dunno...or they are in a overspeed when they are decreasing so they armed they spoilers :)
I'm just answer in my opinion i'm not a pro yeah..
No dont think they were. Partially deployed spoilers are known as air brakes, and their primary purpose is to increase drag, decrease life; i.e. increase rate of descent. This is quite common for landings.
With the 777 fleet they deploy the spoilers a lot but in cape town where the air density is higher they don't pull it up to full , however the 777's are not very air resistant when that size aircraft is falling 2000 ft per min , also when the plane gets to altitude and starts decending it has a lot of momentum built up.
If its partially opened, it is useful as an airbrake as well as to increase the rate of descent. If I'm not wrong, it will help in the roll of the aircraft; i.e. helps it to bank faster.
Usually the pilot doesnt deploy full spoilers till after the aircraft lands. But its pretty common to use it when descending.
yeah i see now thx he you are very interested in aircrafts? you are pilot? or what? i am student in aircraft technologies/mecanics and maybe later i will do airline pilot training.
hah i need to finish now 3 years of aircraft mecanics so it is a B1 diplome for mecanics repair and ect. if i finished it maybe later after those 3 years i can go further for aircraft ingeneer or B2 avioncs it is very difficult studys it takes 5 years extra but i rather i will do my airline pilot training it takes only 2 years but it cost a lot of money... haha but ok that is not the point but i want to become airline pilot.
Cool. Good luck man. I'm not so interested in flying commercial. I'm more into the air force. I'm 18 this year, so I'm enlisting next year. Anyway u can always join an airline instead of pursuing an ATPL privately. They pay for all your training isnt it?
yes i know i can do it also here in belgium join the military airforce and get my pilotlicense for free + they pay me 800 euro each month for studying there but if i want to quit i cant i must serve their duty till my 30 years then i can go waay and go on airliners or something. and if i want to pay license of airpilot training directly it is best i go to netherlands is the best aviation school of europe it costs 101.950 euro lol
I will tell you the evidence. See the red wing tips? If it is red it is an ER Version. You return flight wAS grey meaning it was not an er REPLY FOR MORE EVIDENCE
Haha y u keep saying reply for more evidence?? U could just say it all at one go, mate. Anyway doesnt really matter whether its an ER or not. Its still a 772 in any case.
Hallangell, Not every 772ER has to have red tips on the wind :) KLM is using the 777-200/ER and also don't have them! All Singapore Airlines have the red tips on the wing, thats the airlines choise ;)
perfect day for flying

Isn't that opening spoilers while on air is against the FAA rules?
WhiteSuper09 1 year ago
@WhiteSuper09 Nope, You'll see the difference between spoiler confirguration and airbrake configuration when it lands. Perfectly routine procedure.

@mu54f1r i've been to cape town before the area at the airport has bad weather thus they armed the spoilers to slow down

whoa, were those spoilers fully extended? because that would be an uncommon thing to do in the air

yep i already know that, but i just found it strange how they were at their full extent
FrozenFlame333 3 years ago
its like dat cuz the 777 is different when the spoilers are extended... they're not like the 747's or anything else..

Actually the red tips are part of SQ's new livery method. Regardless of the aircraft series, all planes in SIA's fleet will soon have the red tips.
