Unbeknown to many comments You've received. you are certainly "in time," just anticipating the chord on the "4th beat" of the previous measure, as is indigenous w/ Afro/Caribbean genres (especially salsa, timba, Rumba Flamenco, etc.)
Please email me at: rskaye@hotmail.com to discuss in further detail.
Hey man well played. Now you just need to get more in sync with the conguero. Oh and add what we call "swing". Give it the ocasional slide, and the occasional slap. This gives the music flavor, and is what marks the difference between a bass player playing and a computer generated bass line. Check this out. This is a good example of a very well played salsa. But good job.
Sounds good , but I from what I hear , it sounds like you are anticipating the note and hitting them too early .. You have too be able to play in pocket but feel the groove .. nice vid man .
You have to relax into the beat. Close your eyes and visualize the hips of the most beautiful woman you can conjure up, dancing to your bass line. Add a shot of your favorite distilled medicine if necessary. But not too much. :-)
I have the same book, its great!...I agree with 0kurotenshi0, with latin music you need to feel the groove or how some call it "El Swing" where I disagree with him is that you need to pay attention to time also, but don't lose your focus on the swing...Kudos for the effort!
It's nice but there is something you have to do to really play bass, specially Latin bass, you have to feel the groove, you'r trying so hard to feat the tempo that you end up missing it in some bits
try to settle into the percussion more deeply and learning to play some congas can really give insight.
also learn to leave out the 'one' and just play the 'and' of 2 and the 'four' tied over to the beginning of the next bar (usually beat your foot in cut time: two foot-beats to the measure of 4 quarter notes).
with all "due" respect you really think that it was nice to browse this video in the web ... men cero latin groove im sorry but its to hard to do latin music without benn latin sorry
safe theory I bought the same book you have for latin bass I put some flat wound strings on my warwick 5 string B.O. and started to practice playing along with the Cd's that came witht the book. It has really improved my latin swing being that in my church we play latin style music. Have you ever tried flatwound strings on that bass guitar?
aughh i love latin bass. ive been inspired not only by you but also cause im hispanic too and like i dont know anyone who can play latin and what not around my area. im satrting to learn this style and will get that book
From my humble earm you are not grooving enough, it is a bit mechanical, you are hitting the right notes, now I want to feel it man, so play it a bit sexier, if you know what I mean. Good work though.
What chord-progression are you using? And for what scale?

you are often out of time. Try dancing and playing, i'm sure you will improve. If you want to dance to your music, i'm sure everyone else will.
